▶ Childish Gambino - 3005 (Lyric Video) - 1 views

  •
I found this lyric video for Childish Gambino's (aka Donald Glover) new single 3005 extremely interesting because instead of your typical lyric video affair, it is set up as a online chat, with Gambino's lyrics being posted as the messages he's sending to the girl in the chat, who occasionally posts responses, and dances around to the music. It is an interesting and clever use of the lyric video

27 Of The Most Mind-Bogglingly Stupid Song Lyrics Of All Time - 0 views

  •
Did you ever hear a lyric and be like, "Wait, what did they just say?" Shockingly, only about half of these are from Nicki Minaj. This is a comical look at some lyrics in songs that the lyrics make no sense. I think there is something for almost everyone (genre) in this post
  •
This is an interesting find, when you read the lyrics you realise how little sense they make. Perhaps this demonstrates how its not just music that is important for an artist to make it in the industry. Rihanna for example could sing anything and still make hits perhaps this is because or her risqué performances and outfit choices. It is interesting when you said have you ever listened and thought "wait what did they say" in all honestly I don't I just sing the song without questioning the lyrics, perhaps because the song is in the charts by a popular artist therefore it must be good!

LYRIC PREMIERE: Britney Spears "Perfume" - 0 views

  •
"...The song, the second that fans will hear from Britney Spears upcoming album Britney Jean, is a personal ballad that was co-written by Britney and Sia Furler, and produced by will.i.am. Britney has admitted that much of her new album was inspired by her break-up with ex-fiancé Jason Trawick, so the subject matter of "Perfume" shouldn't surprise you. It's an emotionally powerful song about jealousy and self-doubt... " I found these lyrics interesting because it seems the narrator of the song is aware their sig. other is cheating on them, but rather than "take action" and address the situation, the narrator uses more subtle actions and ultimately, damages herself. While one can appreciate Spears' attempt to encompass a large amount of deeper emotions, I personally believe this deters from feminism; these lyrics causes the woman to become the submissive in yet another aspect of life and seem like the cause of all issues.

This post shares images from Project Unbreakable, an exhibit of photos that feature people holding signs with words their rapists said. The signs show a lot of similarity to Thicke's lyrics.

Take a Stroll... with Rob Delaney - Dear Katy Perry | VICE United States - 0 views

This was mentioned in the article about the Katy Perry Movie. It's pretty amusing and gives you a closer look at some of the lyrics to "Last Friday Night".

I laughed a few times while reading this. I enjoyed the line by line analysis and completely agree with the overall message he was trying to get across.

▶ Bastille cover Miley Cyrus' We Can't Stop in the Live Lounge - YouTube - 1 views

  •
Bastille does a very cool cover of Miley's "We Can't Stop" and change the lyrics up a little bit at the end and include some of "Achy Breaky Heart" into it. One of the comments under the video points out how they are using the intro to "Lose Yourself" by Eminem to suggest Miley is "losing herself".
  •
I love Bastille and I love this cover! I also liked how they changed up the song and made it a comment about Miley herself.

Lily Allen 'Hard Out Here' - 0 views

  •
The video and an article on Billboard about Lily Allen's new song. The video is really interesting and relevant to what we've been discussing as Allen calls out industry sexism in the lyrics and has a reference to Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines' video.
  •
I love this song and video, when I saw it I though Lily's back!! It seems she has taken a few years away to really see the industry for what it is and has come up with this song that addresses everything thats wrong it. My favourite line is 'if you can't detect the sarcasm then your misunderstood!'. I have so much respect for Lily Allen as an artist because her songs always tell it how it is, and she doen't feel the need to take her clothes off ( eg Miley Cyrus). This song reminds me of The Fear when she sings 'i'll take my clothes of and it will be shameless, because everyone knows that's how you get famous".

I referred to this song in my position paper - similarly to "Beautiful" by Christina Aguilera, this is meant to inspire people to accept who they are and express their inn beauty. It's a really beautiful song and I just thought I would share it if you haven't heard it already.

Reasons why Taylor Swift is worse than Miley Cyrus - 0 views

  •
here are six arguments stating that Taylor Swift is worse than Miley
  •
This is probably the WORST article for someone like me to read. Purely because I just LOVE Taylor Swift and couldn't hate Miley Cyrus anymore if I tried. Whoever wrote this is obviously just basing their facts off of the stuff that is touched upon in the media, particularly in relation to the songs Taylor Swift writes. 1. Oh Taylor's songs lack depth? And Miley's don't? Turn on the radio and listen to some of the trash they call 'music' on there and then come back and say that again. Yes, she writes about breakups but at least she can say that she experienced her songs unlike the crap that most popular artists sings who's lyrics were practically pulled out of a hat and strung together. 2. Not ALL her songs are about how she was victimized by her exes, they just so happen to be the ones that make it to the charts. For example, 'Back to December' was written about her previous relationship with Taylor Lautner and that she was wrong for hurting him etc. 'Better Than Revenge' is claimed to be about Camilla Belle after she quickly hooked up with Joe Jonas after he and Taylor split. Her first hit and most famous song 'Love Story' isn't even about a break up! 3. People criticize that Taylor is predictable because she only writes songs about break ups, well if that's so then why doesn't the public gather together and get her non-breakup songs on the charts? Why? Because they prefer the breakup ones. 4. Miley is a self-absorbed, loud, ex Disney star who is trying to break away from her Hannah Montana image and is only making her image worse.

▶ Katy Perry on Sesame Street - 1 views

  •
This music video of Katy Perry with Elmo relates to the Gayle Rubin reading because the reaction to it is a clear example of the fear associated with showing children "too sexual" images. Because the video received so much backlash from adults and parents calling Katy Perry's outfit too revealing for children, Sesame Street opted not to air it.
  •
I found this video kind of creepy actually, and it's not because I'm concerned that Katy Perry is "too sexual," but rather because with her chasing Elmo around, combined with the lyrics, it seems kind of predatory. But this is an excellent example of the cultural drive to keep sexuality away from kids.

Taylor Swift Releases New Song "Sweeter Than Fiction" - 0 views

  •
Here is an article that includes a recording of a new song by Taylor Swift: "Sweeter Than Fiction." According to the author, the song will be included in an upcoming British movie called "One Chance," (which I found comical, since it's like One Direction and, well, you know) and was released on iTunes at midnight. Obviously, it was made for the film; it doesn't sound like a typical Swift song (although the lyrics contradict this claim, I'm focusing on the overall sound). Take a listen!
