Miley Cyrus Voted Worse Celeberity Influence by Teenagers (2009 & 2010) - 1 views

  •
I found this interesting how Miley Cyrus managed to win the title of the worst celebrity influence in both 2009 and 10, yet in comparison to now, (in my opinion) she was probably a better influence then than what she is now. Though that is another interesting aspect oft his link. Considering the publicity stunts Cyrus has pull so far this year, will she win that title again for 2013? Or will it be the complete opposite? I feel that she deserves the title, but it's likely that she won't get it. Her sudden surge in popularity might actually take her off the 'worst celebrity influence' list completely.

Muxes Celebrate Their Traditions In Mexico - 0 views

  •
I came across this article and it reminded me of the discussion in class where gender is fluid, it changes and what the meaning's on gender and sex were. According to article it describes a culture in Mexico where there are ''Muxes'', these are Zapotec indigenous men who dress and behave in ways associated with women. But Muxes are most commonly known as a third gender, rather than a sexual orientation. It is interesting to see that in the article the muxes aren't ridiculed in their hometown, but actually celebrated, for instance they have a party, and to the muxes themselves they see that it is ''important to have this party to rescue our culture, to rescue who we are and show the rest of the people in this city how we live our sexuality, how we exercise our rights''. On the other hand, mothers in the Juchitan area of Mexico encourage their sons of the muxe leanings because their think the ''Muxes are a blessing from God because their look after you when your sick.....''. All in all this culture in Mexico is very different and when many others see this type of identity as unusual or even disgraceful especially in more conservative places in Mexico.

Elton John is "Worried" about Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus - 1 views

  •
This is a short article I found about how Elton John has expressed concerned about the two aforementioned stars. I thought it was very interesting because he compares Miley's recent stunts to Lindsey Lohan, claiming that she is a "meltdown waiting to happen." (There's also an expanded version of the article available.) Thoughts?
  •
I think this article shows Elton John as a supreme authority on female pop artists and enforces the idea of them as "meltdowns" and people in a mess. He uses his masculine power to downgrade female artistis. At the end of this article, I thought it was interesting that he discussed privacy of celebrities in the media. He considers this a detriment to celebrities and neglects to acknowledge how fan connection and participatory culture can be meaningful.

The quote Miley uses "People are going to talk, might as well make them talk for two weeks instead of two seconds" Is a really interesting take on why celebrities have overdramatize things.

Twitter - The Musical - YouTube - 1 views

  •
Upon finding this video i thought it was quite interesting in relation to our popular culture class. Whilst social media is part of popular culture this video, 'musicalised' Twitter! In part it is satirising what twitter has become in that people write about absolutely anything and so we are becoming 'fools', also that the celebrity world (such as Lady Gaga vs Perez Hilton) can be watched in your home and you don't even have to leave your bed! However it also emphasises the positives of social media where everyone is now  ''connected far and wide''and that the world is intertwined. Therefore the message presented is that twitter is what you make it.

Celebrity Body Swap - 0 views

I just found this amusing. The body swap between Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus is particularly funny as you could say they are known for being the complete opposite in where they stand.

▶ Bieber Superfan Surgically Transforms Himself Into Bieber - YouTube - 0 views

So someone decided to get an operation to look like the Biebs. It is interesting to see how far this person went to look like a celebrity.
  •
This makes me really sad. I'm not a fan of plastic surgery at all, and I just can't imagine what that boy is going to think 10 years from now. If it was me, I know I would regret a surgery like that (especially since there's no guarantee he'll still be that obsessed with Justin Bieber in a few years). That's crazy.

Lady Gaga Tweets Photo of Miley Cyrus, Causes Uproar - 2 views

  •
This is interesting. I read Gaga's tweet as kind of an ownership of stigma, like a "it's dangerous to hang out with me, look what happened to Miley" -- but that it's totally fine for what happened to Miley, because she chose to do it. Perhaps this is what Bauer and Halberstam are both getting at: our abilities to choose, and re-narrate stories.

Should We Care If Taylor Swift and Katy Perry Call Themselves Feminists? - 0 views

  •
I personally viewed this article just as a reminder of the "meaning" and purpose of feminism and how celebrities fit into the feminist movement, if they do, how, and why.

Taylor Swift - 'Journey to Fearless' - 0 views

  •
This is a link to a film documentary that was released in 2010 which was aired due to the success of Taylor Swift's first world tour 'Fearless'. The film is based around Taylor herself and how she came to be where she is today, and why she it's he way she is today. The world knows her either as a talented, down to earth country star or as a clingy, possibly even "slutty" celebrity with a long trail of boyfriends behind her. Similarly to Katy Perry: Part of Me, this film shows both the highlights and lowlights of being Taylor Swift both now and before anyone knew her name.

Here's an article I found where Lady Gaga reveals an email sent to her from the people in charge of Instagram. Looks like they don't care who is a celebrity and who isn't: They're looking out for everyone.

Consumer groups razz Katy Perry for hyping Pepsi - 1 views

  •
Katy Perry received backlash from several consumer groups for promoting Pepsi, specifically because her audience consists of younger people (Age 12 <), even though Perry and Pepsi never had an official, formal contract.
  •
Oh, come on! This is ridiculous. I feel like these critics are just looking for something to complain about; if she was "endorsing" a healthier drink, I'm sure they wouldn't praise her for it. It's really unfortunate that people feel the need to nitpick at celebrities for small things such as this. At this rate, these critics might as well attack Bruce Willis for eating a twinkie and getting caught on camera doing so. How pathetic!

Miley Cyrus Tattoo: Gets Woman's Face on Right Arm from Kat Von D - 2 views

  •
Miley Cyrus got her fourth tattoo! Rumor has it that it is supposed to be either a younger version of Dolly Parton (who is her godmother) or her grandmother. Personally, I like the tattoo a lot; probably because I love Kat Von D's work!

Has Lady Gaga Sold Out? - 0 views

  •
This article is about Lady Gaga going back on what she "stands" for. It talks about how she now uses her music in commercials, and some argue she's a "sell out." The song used in the commercial, "Applause," kind of goes a long with the theme of this article and questions what Gaga's motves really are.

Challenging Hip-Hop's Masculine Ideal - 0 views

  •
HIP-HOP is primarily a celebration of black masculinity. Sure, there have long been significant black female and white male figures, but the majority of the conversation in hip-hop is and has always been about the actions, thoughts, feelings and ethos of black men. But this hegemony cannot last forever.

A Celebration Of Assets: 5 Of The Best Butts In Music Videos - 0 views

One of the categories at this year's O Music Awards is "Too Much Ass For TV," which honors the backsides that infiltrated recent music videos from Robin Thicke, Frank Ocean, David Bowie, Sigur Ros and DIIV. Of course, the derrière has been the star of music videos for quite some time, dilating pupils since video killed the radio star.
