This blog post talks about how Miley Cyrus is a genius because "she doesn't just talk like a bad girl, she behaves like one...if you're a musician, that's an incredible place to be." Sinead O'Connor also wrote a letter to Miley about empowerment.
I feel Cyrus' response to this letter so shocking by talking about Sinead O'Connor having had mental illness and re-tweeting post O'Connor said whilst mentally ill. It appears O'Connor meant well and Cyrus' reaction was uncalled and down right mean. This however may be said for the shock value that it is been made clear Miley Cryrus is all about now!!
Zoe, I agree that Cyrus's response was awful--that rather than deal with issues, she taunts and resorts to attacking her for her mental illness, which especially bothers me.
This tumblr blog post contains images of various female artists who have appeared nude in their videos, noting the reaction to Miley Cyrus's "Wrecking Ball" has been different than to other artists' nudity, who have been called "artistic," "beautiful," "cute," and "sexy," while Cyrus gets shamed as "slutty."
This blog post talks about Lady Gaga's video for "Born this Way." Horn believes that while Lady Gaga establishes herself as Queen Elizabeth I in the opening of her video, Lady Gaga is an "anti" Queen Elizabeth I because of the gender issues between the two.
This is a blog response to Joss Whedon as a feminist ally, I think it's interesting to see how some people view things as opposite to what was intended.
I wholesomely agree with this article and i love the angle that she took with it. I agree that women in the industry are pitted against men and it is a women jobs to look as they state; "Girls are allowed to be sexy, but not too sexy. Pure, but not a prude." In addition women or girls are only portrayed as long as they look 'pretty' or from the industries point of view perfect! That is why this article compares the treatment of men against the mistreatment of women in the industry and why there is a unbalance of expectations.
This is an old article on when Katy Perry was named woman of the year back in 2012. I found this article interesting though because in her speech Perry makes statements saying that she isn't a Feminist but she believes in strong women. The author of the article also states that Perry was named Woman of the Year because she has been quiet and doesn't make any complaints.
Indy Pop musician Amanda Palmer responds to Sinead O'Connor's open letter to Miley Cyrus, arguing that we have to build a world where women can make their own decisions.
This is an interesting article that relates feminism with fashion. I think this article will help us explore and understand the relation between pop culture and the use of fashion.
What was the point in bringing Adele into her body issues? I understand that the press are going to ask her about her weight, but i dont see why she should have to compare her body to that of someone elses to justify her weight gain.
What she says makes me angry, I think the reason no one comments on Adeles weight the same as Lady Gaga is because Adele doesn't pose in her underwear so people can see how thin she is and hope they chage their view of her. Adele always says she is who she is love it or hate it which I personally really admire. I saw an interview of Adele where she said her weight and the way she looked was irrelavant to her music and shes not interested in people liking her; its all about the music for Adele. Instead of comparing herself in terms of weight maybe Gaga could compare authenticity and talent which is surely more important.
I'm not sure if anyone has seen this website before but i though it was amazing with a capital 'A'!! Most of the posts are about the relationship between race and pop culture and the media. So if anyone was thinking of doing their final project with relations to race and pop culture then this is definitely a site to browse through.
