▶ The Hungry Games by Todrick Hall - YouTube - 1 views

  •
Best Trailer Ever! This video is a parody of the Hunger Gamer and made it into the Hungry Games.  This video can relate to the black culture discussion in class. The video uses black stereotypes and takes the mick out of what is considered 'black culture', whether it's attitude, music, style etc. Although if say a white person did this wouldn't there be backlash, so how is it okay for african americans to satirize themselves but not others?

▶ Katy Perry on Sesame Street - 1 views

  •
This music video of Katy Perry with Elmo relates to the Gayle Rubin reading because the reaction to it is a clear example of the fear associated with showing children "too sexual" images. Because the video received so much backlash from adults and parents calling Katy Perry's outfit too revealing for children, Sesame Street opted not to air it.

I found this video kind of creepy actually, and it's not because I'm concerned that Katy Perry is "too sexual," but rather because with her chasing Elmo around, combined with the lyrics, it seems kind of predatory. But this is an excellent example of the cultural drive to keep sexuality away from kids.

Consumer groups razz Katy Perry for hyping Pepsi - 1 views

  •
Katy Perry received backlash from several consumer groups for promoting Pepsi, specifically because her audience consists of younger people (Age 12 <), even though Perry and Pepsi never had an official, formal contract.

Oh, come on! This is ridiculous. I feel like these critics are just looking for something to complain about; if she was "endorsing" a healthier drink, I'm sure they wouldn't praise her for it. It's really unfortunate that people feel the need to nitpick at celebrities for small things such as this. At this rate, these critics might as well attack Bruce Willis for eating a twinkie and getting caught on camera doing so. How pathetic!

Blurring the Lines of Feminism: A Criticism of the Criticism of "Blurred Line... - 0 views

  •
I thought this was an interesting article because it criticises that critique of 'blurred lines'. In that women are actually being liberated and respected as independent sexual beings and not objects that are subjugated by any man. The article states that i no way is there a claim for rape instead the women is indeed being consensual. Moreover the writer for this is in fact a women and a feminist at that, she wasn't offended and actually liked the song. So therefore becoming offended when all this hype and backlash came out over what was actually a catchy song to listen to in the car.
