- This article talks about the importance of peer interaction for Autistic students. It displays how tutors can help Autistic children not only learn, but also develop their social skills. It talks about the importance of the mainstream tutors to be encouraging to the Autistic students. This would be a good strategy to talk about in a paper. The use of average, mainstream students may make the Autistic students not feel as excluded and the encouragement from the "regular" children could generally make the Autistic student happier and, therefore, more motivated to learn.

Crombie, Aaron P, et al. "The freshman weight gain phenomenon revisited." Nutrition Reviews 67.2 (2009), 83-94. The "freshman 15" is something every college student worries about. This article is reviewing the studies that have been done on this topic and seeing possible factors of it. They list that possible factors could be alcohol, change in physical activity, and many more. It also researches the differences between men and women in this subject. They come to conclude that freshman normally do not actually gain 15, but it appears more like it because it is less likely to be in lean weight.

Delinsky, Sherrie S. and G. Terence Wilson. "Weight gain, dietary restraint, and disordered eating in the freshman year of college." Eating Behaviors 9.1 (2008), 82-90. Eating disorders, lack in proper dietary intake, and skipping meals is an ongoing trend in the college freshman women. This article wants to find the link between these and the disorders that are coming cross these women. This experiment was conducted through questionnaires and by weighing the participants. By measuring the BMI from when they first met in beginning of the year and the end of the year the expirementer was able to come up with several conclusions and theories.

Shen, April Chiung-Tao. "Long-Term Effects of Interparental Violence and Child Physical Maltreatment Experiences on PTSD and Behavior Problems: A National Survey of Taiwanese College Students." Child Abuse & Neglect: The International Journal 33.3 (2009): 148-160. ERIC. EBSCO. Web. 18 Nov. 2010. The study dealt with the long-term impact of witnlessing interparental violence and experiencing actual abuse. Also, it was looked at if Chinese beliefs originated kat home could contribute to adults' trauma and behavior. Taiwanese college stuents were surveyed and each placed into four groups: no violence, interparental violence only, child physical maltreatment only and dual violence.

How do they grab the attention? What are they selling-a product or service? a lifestyle? an ideology?-and why? Would a different media consumer interpret the message differently? This program raises more questions than it answers, which is the whole point: to prompt students to question, question, question the messages they are bombarded with daily. Savvy media consumers aren't born; they're made, and this program is an excellent tool for shaping the classroom dialogue. (35 minutes)

Toppin, Keith. "Peer Tutoring and Paired Reading: Combining Two Powerful Techniques." The Reading Teacher 42.7(1989): 488-494. JSTOR. Web. 3 Nov 2010. This article is about how peer tutoring is effective to everyone. Studies have shown that a peer tutoring relationship is more effective than just in a classroom. It has also been effective in the adult literacy area. Cross-age tutoring is proven to be less effective than true-age tutoring. The author argues how students should consider tutoring while in school and how it is a helpful tactic to their studies.

The idea of media literacy prompts an increasingly divisive debate between educators who wish to protect children from the commercialization of global markets and those who challenge critical media studies as misguided, outdated, and ineffective. We have provided a historical overview of changing conceptions of media literacy as preparation and protection in market society, arguing that contemporary concerns about children's fast food marketing and sedentary lifestyles call for new approaches to the education of citizen-consumers in a risk society. Our case study demonstrates that a media education programme can provide scaffolding for children's critical thinking about their sedentary lifestyles and media consumption. Parsons, Tim, and Jarrett Carter. "Youth Exposure to Alcohol Ads in Magazines Declining." Camy.org. 10 Aug. 2010. Web. 16 Nov. 2010. In another study by the Center on Alcohol Marketing and Youth, it says that alcohol advertisement in magazines directed towards youth is down 49% between 2001 and 2008. The study analyzes the percent of ads that once showed in magazines to how many are showed now, and what type of alcohol is being promoted. CAMY is explaing the progress that has been made since the begining of this injustice. The article gives CAMY's side of the argument through stats to show what changes have been made since 2001.

National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. "Alcohol Alert." NIAAA Publications. Oct. 2007. Web. 14 Nov. 2010. In March of 2007, the Surgeon General released a report on how to prevent and reduce underage drinking. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism's Underage Drinking research provided much of the scientific information found in that document. This website provides graphs and the goals of the production of the Surgeon Generals document and also includes statistics graphs that show the data clearly. The stance of the government against targeting minors is made clear by this document and it is extensively trying to make this clear throughout the reading.

A film on OhioLINK. Researchers debate whether differences in the brain architecture lead to a division of talents and aptitudes between the sexes. A bit dated, but could be helpful for those researching gender and literacy.\n

Barrett, Betty. "The Impact of Childhood Sexual Abuse and Other Forms of Childhood Adversity on Adulthood Parenting." Journal of Child Sexual Abuse 18.5 (2009): 489-512. ERIC. EBSCO. Web. 19 Nov. 2010. The study looked at how the impact of child sexual abuse on adulthood parenting. The samples were primarily African-American mothers. Sexual abuse survivors showed much lower rates of affection towards their children, higher rates of aggression and mouch more frequent uses of corporal punishment than those of mothers who had not been abused.

Garfield, Craig F., Paul J. Chung, and Paul J. Rathouz. "Alcohol Advertising in Magazines and Adolescent Readership." The Journal of the American Medical Association. Web. 14 Nov. 2010. The most important thing about this journal entry is the table showing the age of its readers and the number of alcohol related ads that are in each magazine. While some magazines have very few, others like sports illustrated has one of the highest alcohol advertisement rate between 1997 and 2001. The statistics here are a well layed out mathmatically measured data that supports the argument of how alcohol companies are indeed placing their product in places that will most likely be veiwed by people who are underage.

Hanson Ph.D., David J. "Alcohol Advertising Facts and Information." Alcohol Problems and Solutions. Web. 16 Nov. 2010. David Hanson is a professor in the Sociology Department at State University of New York and created this site in 1997. He has been making new articles as well as updating his already existing articles to be current. The URL given here was the most helpful part about this site, it give links to numerous hyperlinks offering much information on a various topics from pro alcohol advertising to the con argument.
