The idea of media literacy prompts an increasingly divisive debate between educators who wish to protect children from the commercialization of global markets and those who challenge critical media studies as misguided, outdated, and ineffective. We have provided a historical overview of changing conceptions of media literacy as preparation and protection in market society, arguing that contemporary concerns about children's fast food marketing and sedentary lifestyles call for new approaches to the education of citizen-consumers in a risk society. Our case study demonstrates that a media education programme can provide scaffolding for children's critical thinking about their sedentary lifestyles and media consumption. This article discusses the importance of internationalization of curriculum and and its role in preparing students for a global and multicultural society. With recent events it is even more pressing that Americans today have an understanding of peoples of different cultures. Motlow State Community College (MSCC) recognizes this topic of discussion and survey's show that in its courses only 6% of its courses contain significant international content. International education especially at the college level has taken on a new importance. This article argues that despite the student's major, they should be exposed to multicultural education and this knowledge which will enhance a student's success in the global environment of the future.

The author writes in an appealing conversational tone, which suits the subject matter. He includes thorough, detailed examples and a list of recommended reading.

This article discusses how hospitals are trying to put programs together to help those children that are long term patience with the learning process. Many children are posing disabilities that need to be confronted before they are put back into a regular classroom. The article goes on to talk about that teachers need to empower parents and hospital staffs to come up with innovative ways to teacher children the curriculum that they should be learning. Children with learning disabilities are popping up more frequently and we need to take action as a society to address those issues at an early age.

Community College Journal of Research & Practice; Aug2009, Vol. 33 Issue 8, p611-614, 4p Still in view of international education, this article looks at how the education being received by the students here, although thought to be globalized, is actually really only nationalized. They did a survey of the curriculum's of various schools which have a strong international student base and found this to be true. All in all it proves its point that the notion of an international education actually most times does not do much in the way of preparing the students for an international or global education.

This video contains numerous statistics about how technology has changed and effected us throughout the years. It labels technology as a "fundamental shift" in society and it is for the better. Facebook has the third largest population in the world. More electronics (kindles) were bought for Christmas than actual books. Our society is changing to more technology based and the effects it may have on us are endless.

This article acknowledges the growing prevalence of instant messaging and text messaging in today's society. It reveals the two different beliefs of how these new forms of communication affect writing. One belief is that it has caused a "breakdown of the English language" from the use of abbreviations and lack of punctuation. The second is that students have been encouraged to write more and that it is helping them practice their literacy skills. These technologies can be used as learning tools, but the problem is that students have a hard time distinguishing when to use informal and when to use formal writing. The challenge now is how to teach children how to use this new tool for literacy.

It tells the story's of multiple people who have disabilities that are still able to be literate, one story in particular is about Helen Keller. It goes on to tell how certain special needs educational institutions do not teach their students to read. One teacher was quoted saying "I don't have to worry about it [teaching reading]. My student's aren't readers and never will. This article provides a defense to why people with disabilities should not be deprived of the right to be literate.

It also brings up how the way you were brought up to eat and what to eat influence what you eat today. All in all how your social network is related to how you eat.

These three groups have been advertising for a long time about what is necessary in order to stay healthy and be aware of your health.

Student's need the knowledge, attitudes and skills required to function in their cultural communities.

Living in a post 9/11 society, it is important to educate in order to correct global misunderstandings about the Islamic religion. The failure to teach Islam as a world religion has resulted in ignorance about the role of this religion in world history. Scholars have criticized that the misunderstandings about Islam, and present global conflicts are due to inaccurate media portrayals and the lack of education within schools. While Islam is a peaceful religion, the media has been shaping a negative stereotype of associating Muslims with violence. This article focuses on this understudied issue within Asia and attempts to incorporate this information to Chinese students in Eastern Asia.
