This article explains the importance of the American Dietetics Association for elderly people with health care. Without the ADA most people would not know what their diets should consist. This association assessed the necessities for each persons medical condition. They consult dietitians to make sure that everyone is getting their proper needs. Without the ADA people would not be able to recognize what was necessary in order to be healthy.

This article by the American Medical Association talks about how television exposure has harmful effects on children and adolescents, when it comes to underage drinking. The exposure of young children, adolescents, and college students to television that had alcohol in it increases the chances of underage drinking. The damaging effects on the brains of alcohol on this age groups brains can be permanent. Television ads make drinking alcohol seem like the normal thing to do so they think its okay to do. These alcohol companies have mascots, other characters, and even slogans geared toward people who are underage.

Earlier studies associated the first year of college with a dramatic increase in body weight, termed the "freshman 15". However, recent studies showed that weight gain might be smaller. The purpose of this review was to evaluate the extent of observed weight/body composition changes, including factors associated with them, among students entering university. Searches were conducted for studies examining weight/body composition changes during freshman semesters. Most studies were not comprehensive in assessing numerous potential causative factors for weight gain. Methods for assessing diet, physical activity, and behavioral factors varied among studies. Weight changes were often not quantified by measures of body composition (lean/fat) to ascertain that changes were limited just to gains in fat mass. Overall, weight changes ranged from 0.7-3.1 kg, but among individuals who gained weight, the range was narrower, 3.1-3.4 kg. There may be specific groups of students with a greater predisposition for weight gain and future research should focus on identifying those groups.

The objective of this study was to explore the relationship between rigorous physical activity and cardiovascular fitness, and the effect it has on academic achievement. In girls, academic achievement was associated with vigorous physical activity, and in boys physical fitness was associated with academic achievement.

"Plasma endothelin-1 and nitrate levels in Down's syndrome with complete atrioventricular septal defect-associated pulmonary hypertension: a comparison with non-Down's syndrome children." This article compares the rapid and aggressive development of pulmonary vascular disease of children with down syndrom with non DS patients. To do this they compared the role of plasma endothelin-1 (ET-1) and nitrate levels with complete AVSD-associated pulmonary hypertension (PH). The study included 20 patients, a mixture of boys girls, DS patients and non DS patients. They found that there was no significant difference betweent the two.

Yiou, Fan, et al. "Associations between body mass index, weight control concerns and behaviors, and eating disorder symptoms among non-clinical Chineseadolescents." A study was taken from both men and women and their body mass index. After the study the scientists reviewed that most of the adolescents scored very high in having problems or disorders. I can only conclude that here in the United States that we would have an even bigger problem than China.

Web. 15 Nov. 2010. This article explains how the ADA, SNA and SNE incorporated nutrition into schools. They are the ones who incorporated some health into our everyday teachings at school. These three groups have been advertising for a long time about what is necessary in order to stay healthy and be aware of your health.

This article is about how social economic class is related to a students academic performance. More specifically, this article was about how poverty is related to academic achievement in the United States. The article studied the of socio-economic (SES) status on educational achievement and early literacy. It also looked at programs they have been installed to help low-income families and communities overcome learning problems associated with their economic status.

This article talks about how physical activity and playing sports result in improves mental and social health including reduced risk of suicide and depression. It examines how gender and athletic involvement in a team sport were associated with lower depression scores, and athletic identity was associated with lower risk of a suicide attempt.

The article reports on obesity as an ongoing health crisis in the U.S. Defined as having a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or above, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that annual medical costs associated with the disease have increased. It is noted that obese people are subjected to bias, prejudice and discrimination. Treatment options for obesity are discussed, which include pharmacological intervention and bariatric surgery.

I believe this article to be scholarly due to the fact that it is an a health publication journal. This article has cases of people learning how to use the computer, and also some facts and research about the elderly and computer use. It gives some percentages that include how the elderly make up 26% of the population world wide, and also talks about an organization called The American Association for Retired Persons.

A sample was taken from 360 students that examined the effects of childhood abuse, parenting and well-being through running away and school involvement. Results showed that parenting had a direct involvement with school engagement, running away and well-being. Neglect during childhood was related to abuse while sexual abuse and living in a disadvantaged neighborhood were left with worse well-being. Running away was definately associated with participation in violent activities. Gender also moderated the relationship with running away and abuse in favor of females.

Burns, Robert D., et al. "Intercollegiate student athlete use of nutritional supplements and the role of athletic trainers and dietitians in nutrition counseling." The survey examined the athletes supplement use, perceived efficacy of supplements, availability and use of nutrition services, and perceived nutrition knowledge of athletic trainers. The research was conducted on 236 athletes. The results showed that 88% used one or more nutritional supplements. In addition the survey all showed that majority of the athletes had nutritional class, brochures, and individual counseling available. Furthermore, 39.8% of the athletes were offered athletic trainers, 23.7% of athletes were offered strength and conditioning coaches, and 14.4% were offered dietitians . Overall this study showed that athletes are surrounded by a healthy and nutritional lifestyle.
