5 Amazing Ways to Collaborate with Another Class | Ed Tech Diva - 7 views

  •
""Ms. Clark, when are we going to do that again?" Nothing makes me happier as an educator than hearing those words - and lately I have been hearing them a lot! It is not the question as much as the look on the faces of my students that I enjoy the most. It's the inspiring glow of engagement and enthusiasm and the fire in their eyes that makes me want to keep trying new projects. Their relentless desire to do collaborative-based work is proof that they enjoy the journey, the connections and the role of play in their learning. One of the thrills about being an educator in 2013 is this ability to redefine the typical classroom landscape in this way. This year we did it campus wide with some pretty amazing projects that helped everyone see the value in collaborating, and the immense power of thinking outside the box - in this case, I literally mean the constrictive box of the traditional classroo"

Legos, oobleck, and school: College for Kids uses hands-on learning | Local News | qctimes.com - 0 views

"MUSCATINE, Iowa- Legos, oobleck, and school have more in common than meets the eye at College for Kids, a two-week summer program held at Central Middle School and Jefferson Elementary. First through sixth grade students from eight different school districts participated in the program, which is organized by co-coordinators Laurie Schroeder and Troy Kulland. The program, Kulland and Schroeder said, is designed to give students hands-on learning experiences they may not have time or resources to have during the regular school year. "We fill in the gaps that a normal school year can't do, it gives them a chance to be creative, use their imaginations, think outside the box," Kulland said. Teachers love being creative in the classes as well."

The Art of Classroom App Smashing - 4 views

  •
"App Smashing is relatively new (2+/- years) in the world of technology. Device users app smash when one app does not serve all the needs of a project. When that is the case, a person will do parts of a project in one app, parts in another app, and then smash them together to create something that otherwise would have not been possible to create. The art of app smashing is to think outside of the box and make apps work for you. There certainly is no right or wrong way to app smash. Bring out your creativity and imagination and you will be amazed with the digital products that you and your students will be able to create."

Makers By Design | A Space for Learning - 2 views

"Making embeds informal learning into formal learning experiences. Kids develop more complex vocabulary, apply critical math skills, and explore a range of knowledge as they make. As the principal shared a digital image portfolio with me, his stories jumped out of joyful learning narrative. The story of a young child who decided he didn't want to make the Statue of Liberty (his choice) but to be the Statue of Liberty complete with cereal box sandals, cardboard body and scepter, and a post it note tablet. The idea that making can be captured in movies and art work and iPad interviews. A project in which two fifth graders created a design for a maker patio outside classrooms, presented it to a landscaper, and now will get to see their project actually built with PTO support."

Classroom Tech Plugs Kids Into Maker Movement - 2 views

"It comes in a box - all the parts and a series of experiments teachers can use to help students learn how to build electronics. That's how Massimo Banzi simply describes the kit and instructional program his company has developed that will soon include the new Arduino 101 development board (called Genuino 101 outside the United States) he co-created with Intel. "We designed it in a way so that it's approachable for a beginner, but then it gives you a lot of things you can work on down the line," said Banzi. For teachers, this is a recipe and ingredients for blowing open new possibilities for today's youth who are facing a future fueled by digital innovation."

How to Foster and Unleash a Creative Mindset in Your Students | Edudemic - 2 views

  •
"In an article published earlier this year, we said "public schools' focus on teaching to the test may be squelching students' creativity." Bright students don't want to be spoon-fed information, and teachers want imaginative students who think outside the box. Learning how to foster and unleash a creative mindset in students is one solution to this problem!"

Why we should be App Smashing! | Inside the classroom, outside the box! - 1 views

  •
""I am not a teacher, but an awakener." Robert Frost 'App Smashing' (I have also heard it called App Synergy) was invented by Gregory Kulowiec. App Smashing is when students create content using a variety of apps for example smashing Tellagami and iMovie to make a video. Intro to App-Smashing from misterkling on Vimeo does a great job of explaining what App Smashing is more in-depth."
