DIGITAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS: Tools and Technologies for Effective Classrooms - 11 views

  •
"We use many Web 2.0 tools to help students with the research process. Some tools are selected to make the research process more transparent and to allow us to give feedback during the process. Some are used to help students keep track of sources. I've listed them and the way we use them below. I've tried to give a brief description. It may seem like a lot of tools but we tend to believe that one size doesn't fit all and the overarching skills supersede the tool itself."

5 Powerful Tools For Classroom Document Sharing - Edudemic - 5 views

  •
"Having a digital classroom means a few different things: 1. You have less stacks of paper 2. It is (generally) easier to keep track of student work 3. "The dog ate my homework" isn't a viable excuse anymore 4. Note taking needs to take a new form 5. You need another method of sharing work that doesn't involve handing papers from one person to another Clearly, number 5 on this list is the one that will cause you the most thought these days, unless your dog is into eating computers - and then you have a bigger problem on your hands. Lots of things need to be shared. Students need to hand in their work, teachers need to offer feedback on said work, students need to share their collaborative work, and teachers need to share classroom information and tools of all variety. Luckily, there are tons of different tools out there that can enable you to share nearly any type of file (from .doc/.docx and .ppt to .mov, .mp3/4 , .zip and more!). There's a lot of info out there on different cloud storage services - which are a great way to share files - but many of these are business focused and not as classroom friendly. We've put together a short list of some of our favorite methods of file sharing so that you, your colleagues, and your students can spend more time on the good stuff and less time trying to figure out how to get the information to one another."

Free Technology for Teachers: Haiku Deck to PowerPoint & PowerPoint to Haiku Deck - 3 views

  •
"Haiku Deck is a fantastic tool for designing slideshow presentations. The best aspect of Haiku Deck is the built-in Creative Commons image search tool. That tool makes it easy to find high resolution images to match the message of each slide in your presentation. Over the last year I've had a handful of occasions on which used Haiku Deck to find images and design slides before dropping them into Keynote. On the same track, Haiku Deck recently published directions for exporting Haiku Deck to PowerPoint. That option is available in both the iPad and web app versions of Haiku Deck. "

Master Twitter in 5 Steps - An Educator's Guide - 5 views

"Is this you? You've joined Twitter. You're following a few people. Your profile picture may or may not be an egg. You've even tweeted a couple of times. But you're wondering what all the fuss is about. Or maybe this is you? You've joined Twitter and you've found tons of interesting people and ideas. But there is just way too much information. You can't keep track of the stuff you want to know more about.   If one of these scenarios sounds familiar, you've probably begun the process of building your PLN (see this post I wrote back in September), but you want guidance about how to make it extraordinary, transformative and-most importantly-personalized for you and your needs. Here's how to master Twitter in five steps:"
