How (and Why) to Disable Algorithmic Feeds on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook - 2 views

  •
"Social networks offer a stream of updates from your family and friends or people you follow. But the feed you see isn't chronological. Instead, the social networks try to figure out what you'd like to see first, and show that instead. However, algorithmic feeds mean you'll miss some updates you might want to see. Which is why you should disable algorithmic feeds and enable chronological feeds instead. In this article we show you how to do that on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. "

rssa: really simply syndicate anything - 4 views

rssa.at provides a simple way for non-technical people to create RSS feeds for websites. In just a couple of steps you can create a lovely feed, complete with icon, to add to your site, your feed reader or to share with other websites. This 'live' feed will then automatically update when the content on the website updates, meaning that and all the changes and syndicated neatly across the Internet and social media outlets. We've also synced up with Twitter, so if you enter your Twitter account details into your rssa account, we'll post your rss feed automatically up on Twitter as well.

Free Technology for Teachers: Five Good Feeds for ELA and ELL Teachers - 1 views

  •
"Earlier this week I shared five good feeds for mathematics teachers and five good feeds for history teachers. These lists were born out of a common request that I get and that is "can you recommend some good blogs for X?" So this week I'm going to publish a short list each day of the blogs that usually come to mind when someone asks me to make a recommendation for a blog related to teaching a particular subject area. Today, I have five good feeds for ELA and ELL teachers."

"Perfect RSS Reader is fairly similar to most RSS feed readers. You can see your list of new article to the left of the app, you can scroll to the next story by swiping downward or upward, you can update your feed at anytime by refreshing the list. But the one thing that makes this app stand out from the rest is the photo browsing feature."

How to Add RSS Feeds & Sites to Apple News in iOS - 0 views

  •
"The News app is bundled in modern versions of iOS, accessible from the home screen as a standard app icon and from the Siri Suggestions screen in Spotlight under the News section on an iPhone or iPad. While News app includes a handful of curated Apple-approved sites, users can customize the app on their own by adding websites they like, and also use the News app as an RSS reader. This allows you to add just about any site or feed to News app yourself, including great sites like this one."

What You Need to Know about Data Footprints ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning - 1 views

  •
"One of the tasks I have in my to-do list for this month is to write a post on the difference between the digital behaviour of Generation Y and that of Baby Boomers. However today as I was sifting through my Feedly feeds I came across this interesting infographic entitled " Data Footprint by Generations ". Going through its content I found that it, partly, clicks in with the post I am working on. The graphic provides data about technology usage by the different generations. It particulalry tracks the digital footprint of these 3 generations in terms of their video viewing habits, Internet usage , and connected devices. I think it would have been way better if the designers of this infographic provided some more clarifications on the definitional elements of these 3 generations and not just limit the data on them to age-range."

20 Tips To Promote A Self-Directed Classroom Culture - 9 views

  •
"It's an age-old saying, "Give a man a fish, and feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and feed him for a lifetime." What separates good teachers from the excellent ones? The excellent ones are handing out fishing poles; creating a culture in the classroom of independence and self-reliance. These students don't just recite facts or regurgitate information- they have learned how to learn. They know that if the answer isn't in front of them, they have the tools to do the investigation and research. So how do you cultivate a culture of "I can…" in your classroom?"

I Created A Class Twitter Account, Now What? ~ Mrs. Wideen's Blog - 9 views

  •
"Each morning as we start our day together, I draw attention to things that my students may have missed or mentions from our Twitter feed. This short time together each morning discussing our Twitter feed has resulted in rich discussions that prompt thinking, cause us to wonder and lead us to seek out further information. There are many opportunities during the school day to incorporate the use of twitter. A good place to start is to read the tweets from the other classes you follow, ask questions or provide comments as a whole class. The following examples will give you some ideas on how to involve Twitter in literacy, math and science. All of the Twitter activities explained can be done as a whole group, small group or by individual students. "

  •
"One of the questions I get asked so often is about the resources I draw on for curating educational apps I share with you here in Educational Technology and Mobile Learning. Well, I am subscribed to over a hundred blogs and websites through both RSS feed and social media and my feed stream is always teeming with hundreds of new things to write about. On average , I spend about 3 to 4 hours of daily sifting, browsing, and curating in preparation for posts to share with you here, I know it is a lot of time but I do love it so much and I feel happy having to share something of value with my fellow teachers and educators."
