"It is that time of year again, when teacher's are desperately trying to prepare for SATs tests and looking for ways in which to get those all important results. The Year 6 teachers asked are there any really good apps to help with revising different topics. I have previously blogged about ways in which I use the iPads to make the SPAG more bearable - read here. I have recently discovered two new apps from Andrew Brodie, focusing on Mental Maths and they both are BRILLIANT!"

"This is the last post in a series of posts on Tony Vincent's " iPad As Teacher's Pet". In today's post, I am sharing with you a list of some of the top educational iPad apps that teachers favour to use at school. The apps you will see below are based on a March 2014 survey delivered on Twitter to 558 iPad-using teachers. These teachers were asked about their favourite apps to use in school and they came up with this selection. As an educational app reviewer, I find this selection to be highly relevant and contains the best educational apps that teachers should know about. The apps are arranged in order of priority."

Thinking collaboration: Storytelling through mathematics - 2 views

  •
"Today, I came across Maths Storytelling Day (25th September, celebrated annually). Although the day isn't for a while yet, it got me thinking. When pondering my own education, I remember maths being one of the subjects which incorporated stories fairly regularly. A favourite being that of making a robot move around and follow your instructions, which in today's education, could probably slide under computing. I always thought that it was perhaps my teacher's style, but upon reflection, and with a particular day dedicated to it, it has become apparent that the reason we do maths through storytelling is because it works! Teaching Science With Lynda: Making a Roller Coaster out of Foam Tubes and Marbles- inc... - 2 views

"Today I am linking with Teachers Desk 6 Teacher's Desk Six for Throwback Thursday. This is a super inexpensive activity.  The foam tubes are about 1.80 for a 7 foot tube and you can slice it in half and have two ramps out of it.  The marbles and masking tape are also inexpensive. "

IMAGERS - Adventures of Amelia the Pigeon - 3 views

Read online, or download this book from NASA. Also a teacher's guide for K-2 and 3-4. "The IMAGERS (Interactive Multimedia Adventures for Grade School Education Using Remote Sensing) Program is NASAÕs comprehensive Earth science education resource for the introduction of remote sensing and satellite imagery to children in grades K-8." ""The Adventures of Amelia the Pigeon" was launched in the fall of 2002. Amelia is IMAGERS second interactive web site with multimedia components to engage the K-4 audience and illustrate Earth science concepts. The Pigeon Adventure presents science concepts through metaphors and analogies that relate to inner-city life. The use of a pigeon as the vehicle for the web site provides a metaphor familiar to inner-city children, and Amelia is utilized to introduce the concept of perspective. Through aerial photography created by Pigeon cameras, the web site focuses on the benefits of a birdÕs eye view. Throughout the interactive adventure portion of the web site, aerial and satellite imagery are used to demonstrate the advances of remote sensing through the century. Amelia the Pigeon presents new insights into habitats as she explores the urban environment of New York City."

56 Examples of Formative Assessment | Edutopia - 1 views

  •
"Hi all, I've created a presentation (with some help from my colleagues) on different examples of formative assessment. You can view it here: https://docs.google.com/presentation/pub?id=1nzhdnyMQmio5lNT75ITB45rHyLI... Note the definition I'm using at the beginning of the presentation: A formative assessment or assignment is a tool teachers use to give feedback to students and/or guide their instruction. It is not included in a student grade, nor should it be used to judge a teacher's performance. Both of these would be considered summative assessments."

  •
"Online abuse directed at teachers by parents has doubled in the last year due to an increase in the use of social media platforms like Snapchat and Instagram. In the last year, 40 per cent of teachers said they had been the victims of cyber bullying by parents, compared to 21 per cent a year earlier, a new survey has found. Threats made by parents also rose by 8 per cent from 2014. The increase coincides with the growing popularity of social media platforms like Instagram and Snapchat, with abuse on both rising 5 per cent from a year earlier. Most remarks are either abusive, sexist, racist or homophobic and are made in relation to a teacher's looks, competence or sexual orientation."
