A Cool And Easy Way To Show Off Blogs - 0 views

  • There are a few posts I’ve written here where I’ve mentioned the phenomenal bookmarking service call Diigo. It’s something I use all the time.
  • The folks at Diigo have pushed the envelope a little farther with something they’ve recently announced call WebSlides. The reasons for using such a service are numerous, but the one I see being used the most is for bloggers to highlight other sites. Another use is to create a presentation about your own blog for visitors to get to know about your place. It might be a nice addition to your sidebar or About page. A presentation is very simple to make. While in your Diigo account, you select the sites you want to include and save them to a list. You can then add an audio file for background music or narration if you like. Readers can adjust the speed at which they move from site to site. They can pause it or even click on the sites provided in a list at their own pace — all without having to create a Diigo account of their own. I’ve explained more in my own presentation, so click the button below and take it for a spin. (Btw, yes, that’s me narrating. )
  • I’m glad you took the time to drop a comment here. I really appreciate all that you guys do, and please know that you have a strong supporter of your service as I’ve talked about it a few times here and on my other blogs. Keep it up!

Present sites using WebSlides from Diigo | MeAndMyDrum - 0 views

  • An Easy Way To Present A Collection Of Sites
  • That is absolutely one of the most useful and amazing things I have seen in a long time! Wow! I am totally Stumbling this page! Garry

  • That presentation was fantastic. The bias is obvious right? Haha. You sound good buddy, audio was crisp.
  • While back I started using onlywire to be the one click to every bookmarking site. When I joined it, I joined all the bookmarking sites, one of them being Diigo. That’s a very cool feature and felt very unobtrusive like some others I have seen and heard! Great job and thanks so much for including my site in this list! I am honored
  • That was awesome!!! Was that your voice? You sound like a supermodel! Incredible. Thank you for including me!
  • That was totally great Mark! I’ve just recently started including recorded audio (like in the Super Link Sunday Batch #2 post)with some of my posts as an experiment. I think these things add an extra element to blogs and make them even more interesting. Well done, my friend! Shine on, Aaron
  • I’ve mentioned the bookmarking service known as Diigo here before. I use it all the time to save my bookmarks as well as make backup copies to two additional bookmarking sites at the same time. The folks at Diigo have gone one step further by introducing something called WebSlides. There are a variety of reasons why you can use this free service, but the one I’m going to use it for the most is to highlight sites that I find for my blog readers. The presentations are simple to make. You select any site you’ve saved in your Diigo account and copy it to a WebSlides list. If you want, you can upload an audio file to accompany your set of slides as your viewers are watching. You can even leave comments or sticky notes on the sites for your viewers to read and they can do the same. I’ve explained more in my own presentation, so click the button below and take it for a spin. (Btw, yes, that’s me narrating.

Family Matters » » Diigo Introduces WebSlides - 0 views

  • Diigo Introduces WebSlides Sep 6th, 2007 by moultriecreek The folks at Diigo have been busy adding new features to their research-friendly bookmark platform. Today they introduced WebSlides which allows users to select a group of bookmarks, arrange them in a specific order and turn them into a slideshow. What is really cool about this is viewers are looking at a show of live sites - not screenshots. Slideshow creators can include background music - or even narration - to the show although trying to keep the audio and video synched is a stretch. WebSlides is still in beta, but you can view several sample slideshows to get a feel for the system. One of them is even about genealogy.
  • Wow is not a good enough word for this! lol I enjoyed your WebSlide presentation…. Janice
  • It was a lovely presentation, indeed! And thank you for featuring my little home town’s website as an example; I got TONS of people stopping by and taking a look. Much appreciated!
  • ...2 more annotations...
  • I checked it out. Way cool. Thought you’d be interested in the method by which I discovered it. I checked incoming stats to my site. Whoa! So much higher! The highest hit was from Diigo, with some tortured proxy url but when I clicked it, it loaded my site. Hmmm. Knowing your praise of diigo, I suspected you, but I still didn’t understand the mechanism. Then I cut away all the other stuff from the url besides the home page. Saw the slides announcement. Saw the Genealogy 2.0, watched it. Slick. Understand the hits. Thanks for trying out new stuff, showing the way, and getting all us genealogists a bunch more exposure. Hm. I have been thinking about creating a retrospective post analyzing the ancestry.com thing. Perhaps playing around with Diigo is the way to go about it.
  • Susan, you’re right: the beauty of Diigo WebSlides is that readers are actually visiting the original webpages, so that if your content is included in a WebSlides, you, as the site owner, get the traffic, eyeballs and exposure. Nice, huh?!

WebSlides - Bookmarking Of The Future? » Jeffro2pt0.com - 0 views

  • Monitoring my feeds, I’ve noticed there has been quite a bit of buzz surrounding a service called WebSlides. WebSlides is brought to you by the same folks that are behind Diigo, one of many social bookmarking services that are on the net. WebSlides allows users to take their bookmarks and turn them into a slide show.
  • The ideas and the possibilities, do seem endless. The service is currently in an invite-only stage of life however, I have signed up and if they provide me with an invitation, I’ll be sure to provide you with an in depth review.

  • The new essentials: Top 10 school supplies for today’s students
  • In addition to standbys like pens, pads, and the ever-popular Trapper Keeper, today’s learners need a new set of school supplies, too.  These tools enable students to take advantage of the new learning possibilities the Web has to offer, such as making research easier, or finding better, cheaper ways of doing what they’re already doing.
  • Diigo — Invaluable for research, Diigo lets students bookmark and annotate webpages so they won’t forget why they bookmarked a page in the first place. They can also read other folks’ notes or annotations for further insight. Like any good Web 2.0 tool, Diigo lets them share their bookmarks and annotations with friends, too.

IT|Redux » Office 2.0 Feature Tracker - 0 views

  • The Diigo social annotation and bookmarking tool was formally launched today. I won’t go into the details of this release, for my friend Brian Benzinger has done a much better job than I ever could, with one of his usual thorough reviews. What I would like to focus on instead is how service providers such as Diigo manage to quickly release features requested by users. Back in January, I requested a version of Diigo that would work without any browser extension. Six weeks later, the good folks at Diigo released a working implementation, and this experience became the first instance of a successful request/release process for advanced Office 2.0 features. I very much like working with solutions for which I can have an input in the development process, and the more reactive the provider, the better.

Diigo ~ Web Developers - 0 views

  • Here is what the folks at Diggo have to say about the extension. Several powerful features are combined in the Diigo toolbar to make this a real “power extension” and must-have for anyone who browse a lot of stuffs online. An All-in-One Bookmarking Tool: bookmark to Diigo, delicious, Simpy, furl, spurl and make them permanently cached and full-text searchable. A Powerful Blogging Platform : Annotate webpages and quickly turn them into blogs with a built-in blog editor or enhanced linkrolls. A Great Collaborative Tool: share and interact on online findings, complete with highlights and sticky notes. The Most Customizable Search Tool: like Google’s toolbar, but fully customizable, so you can add any other specialty searches - dictionaries, music, movies, references, and maps. Here is a comment I found via the Mozilla Add-ons Web site that I think fits Diggo perfectly. Diigo is the best bookmarking tool that I’ve tried. And this extension is a must! You can bookmark a page right from your context menu, which includes highlighting parts of the page when you bookmark, and you can also forward a bookmark to someone. I don’t even keep my bookmarks in my browser anymore - I got tired of looking at 100+ jumbled bookmarks in my browser, so now I use the Diigo extension to retrieve them. I like being able to bring them up as-needed, but the rest of the time they’re stored at my Diigo homepage.

Listics - Frank Paynter's Voice and Vision… » Diigo… - 0 views

  • I learned of them when I read about their service in the MIT Technology Review several weeks ago.  It’s by invite only, but I wrote and told them that they had to give me an account because last September I was emailing tech-savvy friends to ask if anyone could design a service exactly like this.  I was willing to pay for this — like flickr or Mars Edit — but diigo is in fact free.  No one took up my offer back in September, but by cosmic coincidence some electronic engineering professor geek at Berkeley was dreaming about the same thing and designed it. What it does is this: you read something on the web, you bookmark it using diigo.com (you do need to install a little diigo bookmarklet on the toolbar).  You assign a tag to it (if you want), or several.  Then, you can literally underline the passages that intrigue you, and — this is the cool bit I’ve been waiting for — you can add a “sticky” note (just like on flickr) that associates with the part you’ve just underlined.  When you look at your bookmarks, the list will show you how many annotations you have in each article you’ve bookmarked, and you can then expand that list to show you both the underlined bits as well as your “notes.”
  • Further, if you are a blogger (which I am no longer, thanks), you can blog your annotated and commented-upon bits directly to your blog.  Or you can badger your friends with your brilliant insights to that last political science article you read by forwarding your diigo-bookmarked articles…  Whatever.
  • diigo looks to be what will finally make project collabration practical - meaning folks will actually use it and not just talk about it.

Technology that can really help use the web for research - diigo | openDemocracy - 0 views

  • Strongly Recommend: Use Diigo! According to our surveys, many oD readers are involved in research in some form or other: as students or academics or media-folk or policy makers and influencers. So here is a recommendation that might well change the quality and usefulness of the web for you. The best research tool I have come across in a long time - it has really transformed my web habits - is diigo.com, which gives me the ability to make notes as I read the web, to collect all my notes in one place and to share the notes with collaborators. After joining, my recommendation is that you download and install the diigo toolbar - it makes adding notes and index-files of what you read very easy. It also has a number of other nice features that you'll probably end up using - for example, you can highlight a word and perform a Google search on it without any further typing, which I liked ... Once you have joined diigo, make sure you sign up to the openDemocracy group on diigo. Joining the group will allow you to see the bookmarks and annotations from everywhere on the web of others who have chosen to share their notes with the openDemocracy group. You'll see when you create a note - the options are pretty clear. Once you have signed up to the openDemocracy group, you can have a look at an example of the group annotation feature here where Anthony and I have commented on the UK Labour Party Deputy Leadership attitudes gathered by OurKingdom. diigo.com is the web tool I use most. I have met with Wade and Maggie, the brains and business minds behind it - I feel they really understand what researchers need and are working hard to supply it. I really look forward to using diigo.com more extensively on openDemocracy and exploring various collaborative experiments using it. More later ...but in the meantime, do sign-up to diigo.com

Diigo have helped me a lot during my phd research and still is. I am sure that I will use it for many many years more. Unless, Diigo disappears, however, Wade and Maggie & co are doing a great job and a powerful business model is emerging. I cant wait to start the Alpha testing and learn about and share ideas others have.
