Harvard researchers studying the ethical sensibilities of youth have found that most young people are devoid of ethical thinking or consideration for others when using the web.

Great example of a school district's digital citizenship scope and sequence. The plan includes expectations for elementary, middle, high school students, teachers and parents.

This week begins National Bullying Prevention Month, and CNN's "AC360°" along with Cartoon Network, PEOPLE Magazine and CNN.com are exploring the problem of bullying and cyberbullying in depth. Stolen accounts-caused by aggressive phishing attacks and distribution of malicious programs to collect passwords-have become a plague upon the Web. Spammers want them so their messages can get past spam filters. And crooks, who often lock out the true owners by changing their passwords, use them to find and get inside financial accounts or to impersonate the owners and weasel money out of their friends.

Imagine the possibilities and then imagine asking citizens to be responsible with this technology. How are we going to do this?

October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month, and the National Cyber Security Alliance is looking to raise awareness among college students to help them stay safe and secure online. According to the 2010 Identity Fraud Survey Report, college students lost five times more money than any other age group as a result of identity fraud or other online fraud situations.

In WEBONAUTS INTERNET ACADEMY, kids (age 8-10) explore what it means to be a citizen in a web-infused‚ information-rich world. Participants play through a series of 12 missions adhering to the Webonauts' motto: "Observe, Respect, Contribute." Each mission helps children understand critical online safety issues, such as the importance of protecting passwords and maintaining privacy settings. Other missions teach how to differentiate between credible and non-credible sources of information and how to react to bullying. Note: this resource was developed as a partnership project between PBS KIDS and Common Sense Media.
