  • Their layout makes the page very user friendly and easy to navigate. The font is easy to read and the color scheme they use (green) is very appropriate for their cause. The site is very organized which makes it simple for the reader to find what they are looking for. They use clickable images with clever pictures and witty slogans on them to navigate the readers to their featured campaigns. The rest of the images on their page are also very appealing and aptly placed.

  • With his use of Pathos and his ability to win over the hearts of the American people, Barack Obama appears to be out in front in the 2008 election. It seems that John McCain has run a traditional and honest campaign through his use of an Ethos-type strategy in an attempt to establish himself as experienced and able to serve, but perhaps this wasn't what the American people wanted to see this time around. George W. Bush used similar tactics to establish himself as a credible candidate, and it appears that the American people are ready for new beginnings, and primed for the "Change We Need".

I think you are a very good writer. It felt like I was reading something out of a newspaper which was great! However, for the purposes of rhetoric, I feel like you didn't talk directly about it enough except for the conclusion part of your paper.

  • The urgency to vote in this election has been a constant staple in the mainstream media, especially within the last few months.  While it is important to vote, it is more important that voters be educated on the issues, so they will be inspired to vote for someone they believe will be the better pick for president.  One can find that inspiration by researching each candidate and deciding for themselves where their vote would be best placed.

  •   Most Americans know that these were freedoms not always guaranteed for them and if   “retrogression often follows progress” that means we must not sit idly by while we are taken advantage of.  These thought provoking sentiments builds an atmosphere of distrust for government and an urgency for action in the minds of the readers who are learning that “silence is  debilitating” and that “liberty has been endangered in the past” so that means its can easily happen again.

  • Hitler's Germany
    • Cybil Scott

Hitler was indeed a truly evil person with a hidden agenda who exterminated over 6 million people. Unfortuantely, as many people realized he was a very skilled public speaker. He was popular for a reason. He was extremely good at persuasion and making people think what he was accomplishing was good for the nation as a whole. This is where the danger lies. One always has to think critically and see beyond the rhetoric.

Why guys go for outta-their-league ladies - Behavior- msnbc.com - 0 views

  • Men, no matter how unattractive, think they’ve got a chance with a runway model
    • Cybil Scott

This website is an example of pathos. It invokes a feeling within the reader. It is designed to make women laugh and to make men feel worse about themselves. Which are both obvious emotions. In my opinion, there are no examples of ethos involved for the reputation of the author or of the person or subject being talked about. There are no examples of ethos except to say that "studies have been done". There is also usage of biased words, such as "plump patron" to create more humor and emotion.

First thoughts: Guns of September - First Read - msnbc.com - 0 views

  • But in the August NBC/WSJ poll, McCain led Obama significantly among non-college whites (51%-33%) but narrowly among college-educated whites (46%-43%). The GOP presidential nominee improved those college numbers in the most recent NBC/WSJ poll (to 51%-43%), but that’s still below Bush’s numbers in October 2004.
    • Cybil Scott

This is an example of ethos because the argument is mostly driven by what people think of the candidates reputation. There are poll numbers and percentages, because all the candidates want you to choose them because they think they are the best one for the job. This argument relies on values, the idea of change, race, and other sensitive issues that apply to one party or the other. Around this time of year when there are elections we are bombarded by ethos, combined with pathos and attempts at logos.

The problem with a strong dollar - 0 views

  • A strengthening dollar means U.S. goods and services become less desirable to foreigners. Foreign sales, particularly sales in emerging markets, are part of what buoyed U.S. companies' profits during the U.S. downturn.
    • Cybil Scott

I believe this is an example of logos. The argument is based on the economy and what happens when we have a strong dollar vs. a weak one. The outcomes are known because of oil demand, foreign exchange, and other things. There are numbers, figures, and percentages included to strengthen the point. This is using logic to get an idea across.

What are you good at? - 0 views

  • laughing
    • Cybil Scott

I think I am equally as good at laughing as I am at offending. I think the two go hand in hand. I don't really know how one can be good at laughing, it just sort of happens. It's the sense of humor that makes it happen. In my opinion if you can dish it out you better be able to take it. My personality involves a lot of laughing; not at other people's expense per se, but I definitely find a lot of things funny in my everyday life. Keeping a good sense of humor about you allows you to not take life so seriously. There tends to be a lot of ironic circumstances in life that are just too peculiar not to laugh at. However, with that comes the occasional offending comment. Some people do not understand my offhand sarcasm. Or my witty banter. I would also include that one of my favorite things to say online or in texting is LOL. Or Hahaha. But this is not granted so easily. I am not the type of person that finds everything funny, because it would devalue the truly hilarious things in life. I am not easily offended, but I can tell when a joke contains an offensive truth. Unfortunately, I do find myself taking it too far or not understanding why a person gets upset, because I'm so used to being easygoing about these things. There are a lot of times when I have to say "Aww, come on, you know I'm just kidding…".
