College Students & Eating Healthy - 0 views

  •
Surprisingly, and sadly, according to a survey by Oregon State University, male college students eat more fruits & veggies than female college students per week. Even though they eat more, they still only manage 5 servings per week, compared to females, who only eat about 4 per week. The suggested # of servings for both males & females is 5-6 per day! In both males & females, 30% of their caloric intake came from fat.

50 Weight Loss Tips for College Students - 6 views

I chose this article because obesity among young adults is an issue gaining major attention. I liked the relevant examples that the article provides to give students a clear connection between their daily habits and subsequent weight gain. The examples help to make the idea more tangible. Most articles written about excess weight are written in a formal tone or in such a way to scare the reader. This article was casual yet informative.

I picked this article because both my daughter and I are in college. She is about to start in the fall as a college freshman. She is attempting to not only not gain any weight, but to lose a lot. This article gave me plenty of advice that I could later give to her.

I agree with you Renae. Obesity if very common in our modern day and society. Most articles aren't capable of holding my attention, but this one could. As you said, the tone of it held my attention the whole entire time.

I have to say that all ideas are great, but sometimes I can not manage it, simply i can't. Also, I did hear about freshmen 15 so I'm giving my best until this year passes.
  •
Some great ideas, here. I enjoy reading anything on nutrition and recently learned that on the healthy foods we eat, we don't need a whole lot, in fact, it just adds calories. I suppose I had the mindset that if a little is good for you then more is better. Now being able to follow the food pyramid makes more sense to me. Before, I couldn't even imagines being able to eat say five servings of vegetables per day. :-) Truth is, I was probably eating two servings at a time!
  •
Obesity is not only a problem for young people, but is a national problem affecting all sections of the community. The solution involves a change in daily habits and lifestyle.
  •
I really loved this article. I am going to have to put some of these onto effect.

There is nothing wrong with seeking help when it is needed. Great article.

Stress Takes Its Toll on College Students - 0 views

I chose this article to find out just how prevalent stress is on college campuses and was shocked at the some of the information I found there. The two top stressors would include depression and anxiety, however, eating disorders were also mentioned. The sad statistic I found surprising was that an average of 1,100 students commit suicide every year! I can think of nothing more that I would have liked to seen in the article; it even ended with the fact that more students are seeking and getting much needed counciling.
