I know now that I should not abuse my children if I want them to be as smart as possible. I was shocked to find this out when I read it.

Its horrible that survivors are now dying. They already been through the worst but now have to face even more struggles. Some of them are getting diseases as they wait laying under tents for doctors to save them. Some of them have big wounds and its not being treated. Their getting diarrhea and other sicknesses that can possibly kill them. Living in overcrowded tents and unsanitary conditions also add to the death tolls. Its already at about 200,000.

I'm learning more about Queens sees huge surge in demand for emergency meals and food right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is: why more than half of food pantries still had to turn people away because they ran out of food. I was researching this question online, and this news item caught my attention because it explains the problems about giving food to elder people. It also talks about Gillibrand and Sen. Chuck Schumer are co-sponsoring legislation to make permanent the Good Samaritan Hunger Relief Tax Incentive that encourages businesses to donate unused food items to food banks. It also states that another piece of legislation Gillibrand is co-sponsoring to help support food pantries and other charities is an extension of tax credits for seniors when they make charitable donations from their retirement savings. Such credits are set to expire at the end of this year. A paragraph that caught my eye was " Emergency measures taken in Washington over the past year dramatically increased the availability of food stamps and government purchases of food for emergency relief programs, according to Triada Stampas, the Food Bank's director of government relations and public education, but failed to fill the gap in the city." This is because it explains about food emergency. "Because of the bad economy, New York families that typically donate food, warm clothes and other basics to those in need just can't afford to this year," Gillibrand said. "As a result, food bank shelves have gone bare, and hunger and food insecurity have reached disturbing, historic highs." " The quote I chose here is basically saying the because of the bad economy that we are having right now sometimes it hard for them to find food. I think this is strong because without money sometimes it's hard to get food. But if people donate or give food that they don't eat then that's good.

I'm learning more about food security right now and in particular what I'm wondering about is Is there a food problem in Queens? I was researching this question online, and this news post caught my attention because it mentioned exactly what i wanted to know.\n\n\n"Queens sees huge surge in demand for emergency meals and food." "Queens has seen a whopping 106% sspike in the number of emergency mealss provided to hungry residents in the past two years."\n\nThe quote i chose here is basically saying that there has been a huge jump in the number of emergency food distributed to the people. Amny people are in a food crisis, and is worried about what they are going to eat in days to come. \n\nI think this is not good because what will happen when there are no emergencey food rations left then what will happen to the people? I believe New York State should do something about this before it gets worse than it is.

I'm learning more about food security in Africa as well as New York right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is: why is food security a problem in New York City, the city that I live in. I was researching this question online, and this news article caught my attention because it shows how my community is suffering from food security. Food security affects the world and the people around us. "We need to make sure we're helping children and families who were hit the hardest by this economy,' Gillibrand said." The quote I chose here is basically saying that we as a country are suffering from hunger. This is very surprising because children and families are suffering and we should help them. The economy affected the rate of food security, because a lot of adults lost their jobs and now they cant afford to put food on the table. I think this is shocking because so many people lost their jobs in the last two years with the economic crisis that now, thousands of children and families are suffering. It makes me wonder how many people are suffering from hunger not only in the US or Africa, but the whole world. I found out that India is going through some food crisis and that many children are dying from hunger. I don't think this is an issue not many people think about. That's what makes me think.

My topic is Depression and what causes depression. If you think about it it's really a broad topic, their isn't ONE reason why people get depress; their's many. I wold like to say that the main reason for the cause of depression is love. Love can affect a person so much, look at Michael Jackson -God rest his soul. When you become depressed theirs millions of causes and here is one of them. I think that this quote can lead to depression because when you think about the last 25 years about you life it has it's ups and downs. Nothing is perfect and what it seems. Some people think about pasrt relationships and it really hurts them when they think or "relive" the moment in their minds. Some people can't handle the past because they didn't "achive" their goal or dream and that brings them down, so I see what this quote is trying to say. I like this quote a lot. It really makes you think about your past and where you are right now when it comes to money, family, and everything else. And yes money can make a peson depressed.

I wonder how helpful this will be for my students.

I'm learning more about "Life on Mars" right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is: Is there life on Mars? I was researching this question online, and this blog caught my attention because It said that there is a possibility that bacteria could live on Mars. I thought this discovery was ground breaking, and I thought that nothing could live on Mars. "The question of whether life in the form of bacteria (or something even more exotic!) exists on Mars is hotly debated, and still requires a resolute yes or no. Experiments done right here on Earth that simulate the conditions on Mars and their effects on terrestrial bacteria show that it is entirely possible for certain strains of bacteria to weather the harsh environment of Mars." The quote I chose here is basically saying certain bacteria may be able to survive on Mars, but this is only inferred after a series of experiments, conducted on Earth. I think this is interesting because it makes me wonder if Humans will ever be able to live on Mars, or if anything does exist there, or if anything exists even outside of earth. I first read this and thought, "wow!" this is really amazing. I continued reading and found out that it was not completely true. All of these experiments were conducted on earth, but the test(s) simulated to be like the terrain on Mars. I began wondering why don't they just attempt to place the bacteria, I am sure on less person wouldn't affect the population that badly. I know that is a bit harsh but I don't care.

The quote I chose here is basically saying that the Africa will lose the whole growing season,because the temperature in Africa have the higher temperature effect by the Battisti and Naylor ,it is not the possible effect of changing precipitation patterns.The climatologists believe that global warning will make the dry areas dryer and further damage farming.It make the climate is changing is going be a major concern for Africa. I think this is amazing because it makes me wonder that there have so many country don't have enough food for their people,and because the climate change,make some place can't grow the plants again,so i think if you want solve the problem of the food security, one of the thing you need to do is solve the global warning,make it don't not effect the climate.

I'm learning more about "food security" right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is: what really caused this problem. I was researching this question online, and this article, "Why Globing Warming Portends a Food Crisis" caught my attention because it made me realize the connection between two big global issues. The quote I chose here is basically saying as the temperatures on this planet becomes higher and higher, more and more food is going to be damaged. I think this is really serious because we all would die without food. It makes me wonder what would happen if the temperatures keep going up and causing more serious food security issue. I hope there would be a way to solve these problems.

This is a history that compares the past with the present, looking for patterns. I think it is well worth our time to consider this history at this time.

I spent my whole Saturday morning working with 5 of the best educators I know. We're bringing gaming into the classroom. Once Suzie Boss pointed me to Jane McGonigal, I became a follower. So yeah, can I put follow McGonigal for Act1 in Evoke? Why not? After all she says things like this: "In "EVOKE," you're leveling up in world-changing superpowers like creativity and resourcefulness. You're unlocking achievements by completing real social innovation missions. Even though much of the game material is real and important and serious, you get the motivational push of game dynamics and the rewards and satisfactions of making real progress. Plus, it's a social network, and once you start making friends with other players, there's all the social stickiness that involves." In this quote, you can see that McGonigal is attempting to bring together the power connective powers of social network with the addictive and motivational mechanisms of games. Plus it's all about doing REAL missions, missions in real life. I'm still not sure that my students will see the connections between their addictions and the learning/doing/re-wiring that McGonigal is aiming for in Evoke. I'm not sure, but I've been VERY impressed so far with how Evoke feels, and I've been seeing that the gamers in my classroom are the first to "get" this game. I want to learn more about McGonigal now, because it gives me more confidence that she is up to something with Evoke, that it has the power of a massively multiplayer online game and the seriousness of a political action social network.

I'm learning more about marijuana right now, and what I'm wondering about is that if marijuana was legalized the economy might not be as bad at it is now. i was researching this question online, and this blog post caught my attention because it told me somthing i was not aware of befor reading this post. "How legalization would help the economy: [More...] Alcohol is a $131 billion industry and marijuana is projected at $113 billion, which I think is conservative. Just like with alcohol, we would need people to produce the raw product, we would need truck drivers to drive it from one place to another. There are so many jobs. I'm starting to get calls from all of these lobbyist sharks. They're seeing it's a business." the quote i chose here is basically saying that the selling of marijuana makes alot of money if it was an actually job thats easy money for the economy.

I've been learning more about food security right now and in particular what I'm wondering about is: how the future of food supply will look like. I was researching this question online and this article caught my attention because of the title, "The fight over the future of food." I can't seem to imagine what the world will look like in a few years, not even in like a hundred years. \n\n"A combination of the food crisis and the global economic downturn has catapulted the number of hungry people in the world to more than 1 billion. The United Nations says world food output must grow by 70 percent over the next four decades to feed a projected extra 2.3 billion people by 2050."\n\nThe quote I chose here is basically saying that if not much is done, there won't be enough food for the growing population by 2050. There has to be a 70% increase of stable food production worldwide to help feed everyone. This is pretty intense because thinking ahead, 2050 is only 40 years away and I'll be like 57 years old by then. What will happen to me if there isn't enough food to feed me and my family? How will I react?\n\n I think this is an important issue for everyone to pay attention to because it affects everyone globally. Even though there are some actions being taken currently to fight the issue of food security and world hunger, it's not enough. There are too many factors that contribute to people not wanting to help out. I think it's mainly because of money. Because many countries are still in a recession, it's difficult for people to dig into their pockets to donate and help the cause. It's sad and unfortunate, but it's true.

The three planets that were just discovered all have one thing in common. They are all much bigger than Earth, but small enough to potentially have rocky surfaces, and they all orbit just a single star, like Earth. WOW! That's amazing. Three other planets that are like earth that's kinda surprising to me because its so new and the idea of maybe people living there. And we had no idea about this. It would be like those scientific movies I guess pretty cool.

I think this article is quite interesting. It says if global warming is us, humans fault or is it just simply mother nature. I feel that global warming is caused by humans. Others, will think differently.

I'm learning more about zodiac signs right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is: How much of your personality is defined through your zodiac sign? I was researching this question online, and this blog post caught my attention because of it's title. I could tell it would describe which pair of zodiac signs are the most compatible depending on their personalities. " The quote I chose here is basically saying this page is almost like advice or a warning for the readers to learn more about zodiac sign compatibility. This may vary depending on how much personalities are changed by their environment. It isn't impossible for a Leo and Pisces to have a stable relationship but according to the article, it'll be very difficult for them. I think this is interesting because the future of a relationship can be determined just by zodiac signs of the partners. It makes me wonder if two zodiac signs who are known to be the most compatible could have struggles or an end to their relationship. The commitment of both partners matters too which can be determined by zodiac signs as well. It says Taurus and Scorpio are one of the best combination in relationships. It says "Though sometimes it can be rough, Scorpio brings out the best motivation for Tauruses whenever they encounter any failure and hardships. Scorpios are compassionate for Tauruses and gives them a feeling of security." I believe this is true from the experience I've had. From what is described in this article is almost exactly what I'm facing with a close person in my life who is a Taurus. I am a Scorpio and since our signs are almost opposites, we balance out each other and build a good relationship; Scorpio is a fire sign and Taurus is a water sign.

I find zodiac signs interesting too. im a taurus and i feel that taurus & Aries are one of the best signs in the zodiac. Those two signs put together are pretty much unstopable if they get together even if they say that they dont go together
