A Guide to improve highschool youth basketball player skills, drills, plays - 0 views

I'm learning more about College basketball, and basketball skills. In particular what I'm wondering about is, if I would have learned these skills and have been playing basketball since 9th grade would i be ready to go to the college level? I was researching this question online, and this blog post caught my attention because it breaks down all of the skills a player must have to be great at his/her game. I went to this article because these are things i would like to know because i want my game to be at the highest level possible. "Vision is communication". The quote I chose here is saying vision is very important on the court. It is probably the most important because you play better when you see everything and can read what the deffence/ offence is doing. Also when your on offence and your a person that likes to throw passes and fill up the asists stat vision is very important. You want to throw the deffence off by throwing no look passes and ally oops, you can only do that with court vision.

$!0k y3@N: Humble as the 2nd personality..... - 0 views

I'm learning more about "humble" right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is: If one is used to the idea that he/she is smart but is trying to remain humble, can that person still be considered modest?" I was researching this question online, and this blog that contain a really great poem called "If" caught my attention because I feel this poem defines the word "humble" accurately. My favorite part in this poem is the first stanza. "IF - by Rudyard Kipling If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you; If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about don't deal in lies, Or being hated don't give way to hating, And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;" The first stanza actually reveals what a humble person really acts like. I suddenly realized that I'm actually not as humble as I have thought. For example, if all the others start to doubt me, I can't pretend nothing has happened and I will definitely try to prove that I'm better all of you have thought; if it turns out that their doubts are right, I'm probably going to lose my confidence and start to doubt myself too. I realized it's not what a humble person will do because a humble person never try to show him/herself, even if he/she is just trying to prove something, not necessarily showing off.

Insomnia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 1 views

  • Insomnia is typically followed by functional impairment while awake.
    • Paul Allison

So this is saying that when you don't sleep at night you often get hurt the next day.
    • CorrineA EWSIS

I guess this is saying that if you are not usually asleep when you normally would be, you are less attentive. You could bump into something or hurt your foot etc. When you are between being awake and being asleep that can also damage you in the morning.
  • Insomnia is a symptom[1] which can accompany of any of several sleep, medical and psychiatric disorders, characterized by persistent difficulty falling asleep and/or staying asleep despite the opportunity.
    • CorrineA EWSIS

It's important because knowing what insomnia is helps to figure out what sleepless night are and why they occur.
  • According to the United States Department of Health and Human Services in the year 2007, approximately 64 million Americans regularly suffer from insomnia each year.[3] Insomnia is 1.4 times more common in women than in men.[4]
    • CorrineA EWSIS

This sentence is important because statistics mean that there are personal experiences out there to investigate in the mysterious questions circulating sleepless nights

The more i look up research on this topic the more i realize that i have insomnia myself. Before i was told that its from stressed, something on my mind or feelings i had kept hidden. Every where i looked for information about it they all seem to save diffrent things how you can have it but they all did say the syptoms and i do have them.

  • Transient insomnia lasts from days to weeks. It can be caused by another disorder, by changes in the sleep environment, by the timing of sleep, severe depression, or by stress. Its consequences - sleepiness and impaired psychomotor performance - are similar to those of sleep deprivation.[5]
    • CorrineA EWSIS

this helps to know the different types of insomia so in case you come across sleepless nights then you can figure out what your symtoms may be
  • Acute insomnia is the inability to consistently sleep well for a period of between three weeks to six months.[6]
    • CorrineA EWSIS

This type of insomnia is not very long but is is alarming to those who can't get a good night's sleep for months.
  • Chronic insomnia lasts for years at a time. It can be caused by another disorder, or it can be a primary disorder. Its effects can vary according to its causes. They might include sleepiness, muscular fatigue, hallucinations, and/or mental fatigue; but people with chronic insomnia often show increased alertness. Some people that live with this disorder see things as though they were happening in slow motion, wherein moving objects seem to blend together. Can cause double vision.[5]
    • CorrineA EWSIS

Is there more to this because I wonder how long chronic insomnia can go on.
    • CorrineA EWSIS

      Does chronic mean consistantly?
  • In many cases, insomnia is caused by another disease, side effects from medications, or a psychological problem.
    • CorrineA EWSIS

What types of diseases cause mild sleepless nights?
  • Many insomniacs rely on sleeping tablets and other sedatives to get rest. All sedative drugs have the potential of causing psychological dependence where the individual cannot psychologically accept that they can sleep without drugs[citation needed].
    • CorrineA EWSIS

What types of sedatives can give you psychological diseases?
    • CorrineA EWSIS

Are sedatives harmful to you nervous system?
  • Restless Legs Syndrome can cause insomnia due to the discomforting sensations felt and need to move the legs or other body parts to relieve these sensations. It is difficult if not impossible to fall asleep while moving.
  • Some antidepressants such as amitriptyline, doxepin, mirtazapine, and trazodone can often have a very strong sedative effect, and are prescribed off label to treat insomnia.[33] The major drawback of these drugs is that they have antihistaminergic, anticholinergic and antiadrenergic properties which can lead to many side effects. Some also alter sleep architecture.
    • CorrineA EWSIS

I think that these are important because they are partly the reason why some people have sleepless nights. Also because these are anti-depressants and they are the laeding cause of sleepless nights which answers part of my question
  • The antihistamine diphenhydramine is widely used in nonprescription sleep aids such as Tylenol PM, with a 50 mg recommended dose mandated by the FDA. In the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and other countries, a 25 mg to 50 mg recommended dose is permitted.
    • CorrineA EWSIS

Why is this relevant to the treatment?
  • Cyproheptadine is a useful alternative to benzodiazepine hypnotics in the treatment of insomnia. Cyproheptadine may be superior to benzodiazepines in the treatment of insomnia because cyproheptadine enhances sleep quality and quantity whereas benzodiazepines tend to decrease sleep quality.
    • CorrineA EWSIS

What these two sentences are saying is that Cyproheptadine way better then benzodiazepines in the treatment of insomnia.

I find dreams to be very interesting and cool. Its like your in a movie or your watching a movie while sleeping.
  • Throughout history, people have sought meaning in dreams or divination through dreams.[citation needed] They have been described physiologically as a response to neural processes during sleep, psychologically as reflections of the subconscious, and spiritually as messages from gods or predictions of the future.
    • Anna EWSIS

Thats cool for some cultures to look at it that way that its a spiritual message from gods or predictions of the future. Sometimes I would have bad dreams and sometimes I would have good dreams. I wonder how my future will turn out to be.
  • Judaism has a traditional ceremony called "hatavat halom" – literally meaning making the dream a good one. Through this rite disturbing dreams can be transformed to give a positive interpretation by a rabbi or a rabbinic court.
    • Anna EWSIS

Wow I like that idea. I like it when the rabbi would give bad or disturbing dreams a positive look at it. So I guess when that happens, you won't feel terrified from the bad dreams you had.

Why Can't I dream anymore? - 1 views

  •
I been researching on why certain people can't dream. As I was looking for answers, I came upon this website. It caught my attention because of its title. The title and my question is both the same. What that website said is "Sometimes where we are at in our internal processing is so deep that there are no recognizable symbols to be given to the dreamer by the deeper level of consciousness. Think of it as a meal not fully cooked - therefore not ready to be served. Trust the process. Relax in the reassurance that your dreams will resume." Its basically saying that we are not deeply asleep yet therefore no dreams are coming to us. The peson related it to a not fully cooked meal. When the meal is not cooked fully, its not ready to be eaten. Same goes with if you are not deeply asleep, there will be no dreams. So, just relax, be patient, and try to sleep well. Close your eyes and wait. Everyone has to dream.

I'm looking into Jane McGonigal's work around ARG's - Alternate Reality Games. In particular I'm wondering how playing one of these games changes the way people interact because they are thinking differently. This is what McGonigal has to say about such changes: "Games, when you play them with other people, … actually strengthen the reward circuitry so it actually makes people more social and more likely to collaborate because their brains are actually more responsive to people online and offline. Games are transforming the brains of people who play them in largely positive ways." She is saying that by playing a game, we adopt a role and use our brains differently. This expands what is possible in our brains, and has impacts on what we do in life after we are finished playing the games. And this is what games should do: change how we live our lives when the games aren't there. Like art helps us see differently, games should help us live by different rules, recognize different systems than we saw before playing the game.

The map have show us how terrible food problem in the world, the most terrible food problem is in Africa, because the map show most of the country in the Africa have the food problem, some of the prevalence of Undemourishment in total population is over 35 to 50 percent. One of the place have over 50 percent. In china, there have a little food problem also.
  •
This map shows the percentage of people affected by hunger. As you can see, Africa is most affected by this world issue. Almost more than half of the countries on the continent is 35% or more affected. There are also places in Europe, Asia, South America, and some places in North America that have hunger. Surprisingly, you don't see anything in the U.S. [I wonder why! I guess it's because we're the fattest nation in the world!]
  •
I'm learning more about food securities and how we can change the world by helping out. In this map, I can see that poverty exists more in the southern regions of the world. I think that it's kind of ironic when these are the countries that the world rely on. It's where we buy our cotton, our coffee beans, bananas and corn.
  •
The food hunger crisis is a big concern for me now because its very sad and horrifying to believe that this is actually happening as I type this. I could never imagine what kind life this could be because I have been so lucky and blessed with the life I have. In a way, even though I am just a middle/average class type of person, I feel very rich and spoiled compared to these helpless poor people who are starving around the world.

The map have show that the food crisis around the world.on the map African was the most danger place.and the most part of North America have a percent of undernourishment in total population over 5%.

Mobiles give Africa's farmers the chance to set out their stall | Katine | The Observer - 0 views

"A phone can be used to call for help in a medical emergency, find information about crop prices, enable cashless transactions and banking services, or simply save someone from making a long journey when the only option is to visit in person. Professor Jeffrey Sachs, a leading development economist and director of the Earth Institute, has said: "The cellphone is the single most transformative technology for development." This is interesting. I know that smart phones help give so much information now a days; its like having a laptop fit your pocket. Just pull it out and have information given to you by simply looking up what you need to know. This would seem great for farmers to have but given the prices of owning a cellphone and paying the rate plan is kind of expensive. Especially for farmers who are poor. In Africa, times are very tough and there is a lot of poverty over there. "Matthew Elesu, 27, wearing an Arsenal shirt, explains that he buys a car battery from the town of Soroti for 150,000 shillings (£48). The journey there and back costs 4,000 shillings (£1.28), four times what it was only a couple of years ago. Elesu then charges 400 shillings (13p) to charge a phone, which usually takes four hours. The margins are slight. "I make money, but only enough to buy some bread," he says." This shows how even cheap technology affects the money farmers could make. Its a cool idea to help farmers but in the end it does little to no effect in my opinion.

Queens sees huge surge in demand for emergency meals and food - 1 views

  • The number of emergency meals provided to the city's hungry has jumped in every borough since 2006, with the Queens tally topped only by that in the Bronx, which saw a 110% boost. In Brooklyn the jump was 75% and in Manhattan 62%. The smallest increase was 29% for Staten Island.

It's hard to believe that so many people are starving. Some thing that stood out for me was when the article stated Queens tally topped only by that in the Bronx, which saw a 110% boost. In Brooklyn the jump was 75% and in Manhattan 62%." & a 29% for Staten Island. Staten island has the smallest percentage due to how small the island is.Either way the rates of hunger have increased drastically.
  • "Because of the bad economy, New York families that typically donate food, warm clothes and other basics to those in need just can't afford to this year," Gillibrand said. "As a result, food bank shelves have gone bare, and hunger and food insecurity have reached disturbing, historic highs." The Food Bank for New York City, which supplies food to 1,000 agencies providing 300,000 meals a day, found that 93% of city food pantries have seen an increase in first-time visitors over the past year. Half of the pantries reported more than 25% in increased demand over last year.

Many people in NYC need food after the economy went down. New York families miss their home and they couldn't handle their life well. Those people are the ones who really need help from others. The govenment is trying to help, but the government's food bank is missing supplies too.
    • Yu Park

The reason why the hunger rate is high these days is because of how popluated the cities are and the lack of recognition towards the poor class and the homeless.
  • "Because of the bad economy, New York families that typically donate food, warm clothes and other basics to those in need just can't afford to this year," Gillibrand said. "As a result, food bank shelves have gone bare, and hunger and food insecurity have reached disturbing, historic highs."

I'm learning more about Queens sees huge surge in demand for emergency meals and food right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is: why more than half of food pantries still had to turn people away because they ran out of food. I was researching this question online, and this news item caught my attention because it explains the problems about giving food to elder people. It also talks about Gillibrand and Sen. Chuck Schumer are co-sponsoring legislation to make permanent the Good Samaritan Hunger Relief Tax Incentive that encourages businesses to donate unused food items to food banks. It also states that another piece of legislation Gillibrand is co-sponsoring to help support food pantries and other charities is an extension of tax credits for seniors when they make charitable donations from their retirement savings. Such credits are set to expire at the end of this year. A paragraph that caught my eye was " Emergency measures taken in Washington over the past year dramatically increased the availability of food stamps and government purchases of food for emergency relief programs, according to Triada Stampas, the Food Bank's director of government relations and public education, but failed to fill the gap in the city." This is because it explains about food emergency. "Because of the bad economy, New York families that typically donate food, warm clothes and other basics to those in need just can't afford to this year," Gillibrand said. "As a result, food bank shelves have gone bare, and hunger and food insecurity have reached disturbing, historic highs." " The quote I chose here is basically saying the because of the bad economy that we are having right now sometimes it hard for them to find food. I think this is strong because without money sometimes it's hard to get food. But if people donate or give food that they don't eat then that's good.

I was researching this question online, and this news article, "Queens sees huge surge in demand for emergency meals and food" caught my attention because it explains what I'm wondering. The quote I chose here is basically saying that as the economy goes down, those who always donate clothes and other food supplies stopping donating because they cannot afford to. This is one of the biggest reason that food crisis in queens is becoming more serious. I think this is very sad because it makes me wonder how many people in our city right now don't have food to eat and can barely survive. I'm now recalling how much food that I have wasted since I was born. I believe that if I had saved all that amount of food, I would have saved a lot of people. Therefore, from now on I will try my best not to waste any food and join those who donate food to poor people.

I'm learning more about the food security right now,and in particular what I'm wondering about is :What is the food problem in NY? I was researching this question online, and this news item caught my attention because we have look for the food security in the Africa, and we are looking for the food security in America now, then i saw this topic, and i think it is interesting. "The number of emergency meals provided to the city's hungry has jumped in every borough since 2006, with the Queens tally topped only by that in the Bronx, which saw a 110% boost. In Brooklyn the jump was 75% and in Manhattan 62%. The smallest increase was 29% for Staten Island. The report found that 340,000 households across the city are now considered "food insecure" - meaning that these families are unsure when or how they will get their next meal - with 53,285 in the Bronx. " The quote I chose here is basically saying that the food security in New York is very important, because the news said that the number of the emergency meals provided to the city's hungry has jumped in every borough since 2006.Queens tally topped only by that in the Bronx, which saw a 100% boost.Brooklyn jump was 75% and Manhattan 62%.the less increase was 29% in Staten Island. I think this is amazing because i don't really know that was a big problem in the New York,it make me wonder that not only the food problem in Africa,it also happened in the place that I lived, that i have never know before.so it make me very amazing.I think we should solve the food problem also.

"The report from the office of Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand shows a dramatic 55% rise in the need for emergency food relief statewide, and a 75% increase in New York City overall. The number of emergency meals provided to the city's hungry has jumped in every borough since 2006, with the Queens tally topped only by that in the Bronx, which saw a 110% boost. In Brooklyn the jump was 75% and in Manhattan 62%. The smallest increase was 29% for Staten Island." This is something that I couldn't believe. Are these numbers really true? I mean there are these many people who need food in my area? I mean I know in Queens I have seen many homeless people and food drives all around the city but I never knew it was due to the fact because there are these amount of people who need it. Its sad and shocking and I think I am going to start putting in my two cents and try to hep out. I think I will start volunteering at a food drive or something. This is crazy how people are in hunger like this.

I'm learning more about food security in queens right now, and in particular what i'm wondering about is why are people hungry all of the sudden. I was researching this question online, and this new posts caught my attention because, why is only Queens having this food problems and why does the title have the borough queens and not any other borough. "The report found that 340,000 households across the city are now considered "food insecure" - meaning that these families are unsure when or how they will get their next meal - with 53,285 in the Bronx. " The quote i chose here is basically saying that food is really scarce and people don't know when is the next time they will be able to eat. Several people in the Bronx have to worry about this for sure because there are so many of them in this condition. I think this is a true statement because, several people are having such a low amount of food and they don't know when they gonna have their next meal.I think that why their are so many emergency security food and meals are being passed out all around the boroughs in NYC.

I'm learning more about food security right now and in particular what I'm wondering about is Is there a food problem in Queens? I was researching this question online, and this news post caught my attention because it mentioned exactly what i wanted to know.\n\n\n"Queens sees huge surge in demand for emergency meals and food." "Queens has seen a whopping 106% sspike in the number of emergency mealss provided to hungry residents in the past two years."\n\nThe quote i chose here is basically saying that there has been a huge jump in the number of emergency food distributed to the people. Amny people are in a food crisis, and is worried about what they are going to eat in days to come. \n\nI think this is not good because what will happen when there are no emergencey food rations left then what will happen to the people? I believe New York State should do something about this before it gets worse than it is.

I'm learning more about food security in Africa as well as New York right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is: why is food security a problem in New York City, the city that I live in. I was researching this question online, and this news article caught my attention because it shows how my community is suffering from food security. Food security affects the world and the people around us. "We need to make sure we're helping children and families who were hit the hardest by this economy,' Gillibrand said." The quote I chose here is basically saying that we as a country are suffering from hunger. This is very surprising because children and families are suffering and we should help them. The economy affected the rate of food security, because a lot of adults lost their jobs and now they cant afford to put food on the table. I think this is shocking because so many people lost their jobs in the last two years with the economic crisis that now, thousands of children and families are suffering. It makes me wonder how many people are suffering from hunger not only in the US or Africa, but the whole world. I found out that India is going through some food crisis and that many children are dying from hunger. I don't think this is an issue not many people think about. That's what makes me think.

Im learning more about FGM/C right now, and in particular im wondering about is: why do women think it is OK to prefrom FGM/C. I was researching this question online, and this article showed up. (http://www.unicef.org/protection/index_genitalmutilation.html). It caught my attention because of the large number of women who still preform FGM/C to this day. "FGM/C is mainly performed on children and adolescents between four and 14 years of age. In some countries such as Ethiopia however, more than half of FGM/C is performed on infants under one year old." The purpose of this quote is to inform people on the ongoing events involving FGM/C. In particular, FGM/C on children and adolesense. I think this is very important to know about because in most societies, sexual is over looked, and given to practically anyone. However, in most places around the world, sexual activites are extremely important learn about.

There reason this caught my eye was because Leonardo has been dead for hundreds of year, why is it that it took them this long to discover one of his paintings? Another interesting thing is that the price of the painting arose overnight from thousands of dollars to over one hundred and sixty million. Now that is a real shocker. Although it hasn't been one hundred percent confirmed that it is in fact Leonardo's paintings, however there is a very high chance. I hope to research more into this later on today. As of right now, there is not enough facts.

Snow on October 9th? That's less than three weeks into autumn. Last year, we didn't get snow until the weekend before Halloween. Looks like a long winter of global warming coming our way this year….

I am learning about animation and 3d animation programs, and in particular I want to know what are some good 3d animation programs? I was researching this question online and came upon this program iCLone 4. This program has so many new and amazing features including Reallusion Fuses Real-Time 3D Animation and Video Compositing FX. I was amazed by how advanced technology had become. This program seemed perfect and just what I was looking for. I really want to experiment with different 3D animation programs in order to find out witch on I work best with or maybe if I find I can use multiple programs.

ACERS NEW 3-D LAPTOP! - 0 views

WOW can you believe how fast technology is progressing? It's amazing what companies come up with every year. Our society always seems to thirst for more. Over the past few years, 3-D has become a HIT thing. Every now and then, a 3-D movie comes out. This Acer laptop is not only inexpensive, but it even comes with a pair of 3-D GLASSES!I'm indeed very curious about what the world would look like in the year 3000. I predict that we'd have laptops just pop out of our desks. Laptops that would take centuries to break. Who knows, they probably already exist. Technology is just amazing. It never ceases to amaze me with its abilities. I hope to hear more interesting news in the future!!!!

ScienceDirect - Cognition : Unconscious modulation of the conscious experience of voluntary control - 0 views

  •
In this journal article, freewill and control are being the objects of an experiment. I found this very interesting because it proposes another perspective for looking at voluntary control. It also provides an objective hypothesis attempting to explain freewill physiologically and the underlying mechanics of such a conscious experience. "The conscious experience of free will is a central feature of human self-perception. We usually feel that our conscious intentions cause our actions, which in turn produce desired effects in the world. Although the subjective feeling of control is an essential aspect of our self-conceptualisation as intentional agents, the mechanisms underlying this experience are not well understood (e.g., [Haggard et al., 2002], [Jeannerod, 2003], Lau et al., 2004 H.C. Lau, R.D. Rogers, P. Haggard and R.E. Passingham, Attention to intention, Science 303 (2004), pp. 1208-1210. Full Text via CrossRef | View Record in Scopus | Cited By in Scopus (100)[Lau et al., 2004], [Sebanz and Prinz, 2006] and [Sirigu et al., 2004]). Here, we argue that the conscious feeling of voluntary control is closely tied to our ability to represent future effects of our actions." This segment is the introduction of a long experiment. I found fascinating that what we call control can be just a representation of cognitive anticipation of future events. I am now digesting this article slowly, so for the time being, I am not able to provide a better explanation for I have not yet understood completely where does the conclusion comes from or how was the hypothesis made

Cinematic Creativity and Production Budgets: Does Money Make the Movie? - 0 views

  •
i believe this is a a brief summary of the book when looking at the abstract section of this page when you go to the link. All about Film budgets and discussing whether or not its necessary for a movie. Its just bits and pieces of things that are good to read hear and there so you know more about this industry. I am very serious about filmmaking. As you can see thats all I ever talk about when I'm on diigo or youthvoices. I am convinced that this is what I am going to do in life.

Vatican Looks to Heavens for Signs of Alien Life - NYTimes.com - 1 views

  • ''Both science and religion posit life as a special outcome of a vast and mostly inhospitable universe,'' he told a news conference Tuesday. ''There is a rich middle ground for dialogue between the practitioners of astrobiology and those who seek to understand the meaning of our existence in a biological universe.''

I'm learning more about extraterrestrial life right now, and in particular I'm wondering about is: Is there life on Mars, or in space at all? I was researching this question online and this news item caught my attention because It discusses the Vatican's approach on researching Extraterrestrial life. The Vatican is a major congregation of the Catholic church in Rome. ''Both science and religion posit life as a special outcome of a vast and mostly inhospitable universe,'' he told a news conference Tuesday. ''There is a rich middle ground for dialogue between the practitioners of astrobiology and those who seek to understand the meaning of our existence in a biological universe.'' The quote I chose here is basically saying that a common stance is met between scientists that want to research Extraterrestrial-ism and rather more religious people that want to research it. I think this is shocking because... It makes me wonder why would the Vatican of all things want to seek information about Alien Life. I would assume that the Vatican, would oppose any beliefs that life exists outside of earth. The article also mentions that it was appropriate that the Vatican would host such a meeting, this honestly makes me a little paranoid.
