I'm learning more about the multiple intelligences right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is: How this theory is applied in modern education? I was researching this question online, and this blog post caught my attention because it mentioned that schools did not use a variety of learning styles to teach. "...American schools still base their instruction primarily on the verbal-linguistic and logical-mathematical intelligences. As a result, many students who are not strong in these traditional intelligences develop poor attitudes toward school and their academic achievement suffers." Most schools today base their curriculum around only two of several intelligences. However, many students are more adept in using other methods to learn. This makes it harder for those students to excel, despite having the ability to if given the right school environment. I think this is true because I know a bunch of people who are extremely talented in a lot of areas. They know a lot, but, they have poor grades, mainly because they can not showcase their abilities properly. It makes me wonder if the school system will change in the future. Then, maybe it will be more fair.

I'm learning more about Multiple Intelligences right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is: How are Multiple Intelligences used in school? I was researching this question online, and this blog post caught my attention because it answers my question directly. "traditional and nontraditional approaches should be combined to formulate a method of education that is best suited to the students who populate our classrooms. The multiple intelligences offer a balance which teaches students what they need to know in order to be successful in our society in a way that compliments the unique abilities that each individual possesses." The quote i chose here is basically saying that the authorities should change school so that they can combine two different intelligences together. By combining two intellgences it is easier for students who are not dominant in either logical, or linguistic intelligences. I think this is smart because many students dominant intelligences are not in linguistic, or logical. Instead it is in the intelligences schools do not incorporate into the curriculum. It makes me wonder if i would do better in school, if two intelligences were combined.

The Redistricting Game is designed to educate, engage, and empower citizens around the issue of political redistricting. Currently, the political system in most states allows the state legislators themselves to draw the lines. This system is subject to a wide range of abuses and manipulations that encourage incumbents to draw districts which protect their seats rather than risk an open contest.

A photo pool the compiles photos taken by educators who are learning to become better photographers by committing to taking at least a photo every day of the year. The pool currently has 239 members contributing photos with close to 20,000 photos.

In this podcast, the author is actually advertising the Maharishi University of Management, but in the act he discusses consciousness and its importance in education. I found it especially interesting because it takes the perspective of a biological consciousness. It describes experience as "traces in the brain" and the distinctive "connection of neurons." In addition to this he brought up the point that the brain is constantly changing; "Over 70 percent of the brain changes everyday." However, this make me wonders where is the evidence to back up this assertion. Although somewhat unconvincing for me, this podcast raises a very important point: is consciousness physical? I hope I could answer this question but it is plausible that such a question would remain unanswered for a long time. Neuroscience and the biological perspectives on cognition are still young, but I am certainly that progress will come at any time.

I'm learning more about the Haiti Earthquake right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is what will happen next? I was researching this question online, and this news item caught my attention because it shows people laying die and crying for those who die. The title is Devasting Earthquake hits Haiti- New York Times. Something that appear on this article is " Huge swaths of Haiti's capital lay in ruins on Wednesday following a devastating earthquake, and thousands were feared dead. Displaced residents in Port-au-Prince, the capital." People cryng for their relatives who die. Another summary is where this woamn is walking past bodies . " A woman walked past bodies in Port-au-Prince. The Haitian president, René Préval, told The Miami Herald that the death toll was "unimaginable." The quote that I choose was " Parliament has collapsed," President Préval was quoted as saying. "The tax office has collapsed. Schools have collapsed. Hospitals have collapsed. There are a lot of schools that have a lot of dead people in them." The streets were strewn with rubble." How sad to know that innocent children die while they were learning having an education! I think this is strong because many people, good people die on this earthquake attack. It's sad to know that people was stuck in schools, buildings, houses, and they can't get out. And most of the people who survive they end u dieing later on.

I spent my whole Saturday morning working with 5 of the best educators I know. We're bringing gaming into the classroom. Once Suzie Boss pointed me to Jane McGonigal, I became a follower. So yeah, can I put follow McGonigal for Act1 in Evoke? Why not? After all she says things like this: "In "EVOKE," you're leveling up in world-changing superpowers like creativity and resourcefulness. You're unlocking achievements by completing real social innovation missions. Even though much of the game material is real and important and serious, you get the motivational push of game dynamics and the rewards and satisfactions of making real progress. Plus, it's a social network, and once you start making friends with other players, there's all the social stickiness that involves." In this quote, you can see that McGonigal is attempting to bring together the power connective powers of social network with the addictive and motivational mechanisms of games. Plus it's all about doing REAL missions, missions in real life. I'm still not sure that my students will see the connections between their addictions and the learning/doing/re-wiring that McGonigal is aiming for in Evoke. I'm not sure, but I've been VERY impressed so far with how Evoke feels, and I've been seeing that the gamers in my classroom are the first to "get" this game. I want to learn more about McGonigal now, because it gives me more confidence that she is up to something with Evoke, that it has the power of a massively multiplayer online game and the seriousness of a political action social network.

I'm learning more about Queens sees huge surge in demand for emergency meals and food right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is: why more than half of food pantries still had to turn people away because they ran out of food. I was researching this question online, and this news item caught my attention because it explains the problems about giving food to elder people. It also talks about Gillibrand and Sen. Chuck Schumer are co-sponsoring legislation to make permanent the Good Samaritan Hunger Relief Tax Incentive that encourages businesses to donate unused food items to food banks. It also states that another piece of legislation Gillibrand is co-sponsoring to help support food pantries and other charities is an extension of tax credits for seniors when they make charitable donations from their retirement savings. Such credits are set to expire at the end of this year. A paragraph that caught my eye was " Emergency measures taken in Washington over the past year dramatically increased the availability of food stamps and government purchases of food for emergency relief programs, according to Triada Stampas, the Food Bank's director of government relations and public education, but failed to fill the gap in the city." This is because it explains about food emergency. "Because of the bad economy, New York families that typically donate food, warm clothes and other basics to those in need just can't afford to this year," Gillibrand said. "As a result, food bank shelves have gone bare, and hunger and food insecurity have reached disturbing, historic highs." " The quote I chose here is basically saying the because of the bad economy that we are having right now sometimes it hard for them to find food. I think this is strong because without money sometimes it's hard to get food. But if people donate or give food that they don't eat then that's good.

I'm learning more about food security right now and in particular what I'm wondering about is Is there a food problem in Queens? I was researching this question online, and this news post caught my attention because it mentioned exactly what i wanted to know.\n\n\n"Queens sees huge surge in demand for emergency meals and food." "Queens has seen a whopping 106% sspike in the number of emergency mealss provided to hungry residents in the past two years."\n\nThe quote i chose here is basically saying that there has been a huge jump in the number of emergency food distributed to the people. Amny people are in a food crisis, and is worried about what they are going to eat in days to come. \n\nI think this is not good because what will happen when there are no emergencey food rations left then what will happen to the people? I believe New York State should do something about this before it gets worse than it is.

I'm learning more about food security in Africa as well as New York right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is: why is food security a problem in New York City, the city that I live in. I was researching this question online, and this news article caught my attention because it shows how my community is suffering from food security. Food security affects the world and the people around us. "We need to make sure we're helping children and families who were hit the hardest by this economy,' Gillibrand said." The quote I chose here is basically saying that we as a country are suffering from hunger. This is very surprising because children and families are suffering and we should help them. The economy affected the rate of food security, because a lot of adults lost their jobs and now they cant afford to put food on the table. I think this is shocking because so many people lost their jobs in the last two years with the economic crisis that now, thousands of children and families are suffering. It makes me wonder how many people are suffering from hunger not only in the US or Africa, but the whole world. I found out that India is going through some food crisis and that many children are dying from hunger. I don't think this is an issue not many people think about. That's what makes me think.

I'm learning more about empowering women. I read an article a couple minutes ago on how women get empowered. One way that women get empowered is sports can make a difference, consisting of improving one's self esteem and self-control and so much more. I was looking for organizations that help women get empowered and this one caught my attention because it was what i was looking for. An organization that help empower women through sports. I honestly think that it is a wonderful thing that we can all be apart of. "The project will educate and empower 37 action teams and allow them to increase their capacity to make independent decisions and reduce vulnerability so as to produce self assertiveness and liberated women through sport. " The quote i chose here is basically introducing the project to the public and hopefully donator. This reminded me of the another article that i read a couple of minutes ago. What i noticed most about, "Diversions" was the way the game used to be back in the 50's and 60's when it came to the shoes they wore. This really stood out to me because the stars of the 50's and 60's wore flat little sandle like shoes with a little piece of rubber underneath for about 10-15 years, until sneakers were made. More than a decade past before any sporting goods companies started to market shoes specifically made for the new game."
