NMC Horizon Project Report - 3 views

  •
This report came out last week and is the pk-12 2011 edition that describes "emerging technologies likely to have a large impact on teaching, learning, research or creative expression within education around the globe." The groups producing the report are the New Media Consortium and the International Society for Technology in Education. I highly suggest reading the executive summary which gives the trends and challenges predicted for the next five years. It then summarizes the six emerging (within five years) technologies that are the upcoming trends in education. The main report details each technology, gives examples for how each can be implemented in the classroom, and provides additional web sites as resources.

Wimba Virtual class with Reams - 4 views

The thing that wills tick with me from the presentation was the way that you can format a Google Search. I never knew you could adjust a search to meet criteria all the way down to reading level. ...

This website has some interesting information on major educational initiatives that are going on currently, and educational resources for K-12 and higher education.. For example I found a podcast on using mobile devices in education. My graduate students are all required to have mobile devices, perhaps I could be doing more with this technology?

Glog - One on Web 2.0 Skills - 1 views

  •
If you haven't seen a glog, check this out. This one is on Web 2.0 tools. The key to remember is that you must scroll over each item in the glog. If a pink circle apears, then you should click the image and something else (video, website, audio etc.) will apear. Great example for how to use this tool!

This is a great website for ear training. One of the downsides is that it does have a cost to get the full benefit of the tool but anyone can sample the activities for free. Teachers can track student progress as well.

This is a cool website for elementary students to use to have a more hands on and interactive research experience. Students can find out information about composers and the orchestra and listen to radio broadcasts about them as well as hear samples of music.

Literacy and Creativity - 0 views

  •
This article discusses how literacy can be helped through the creativity of poetry. I think it is very interesting because it is not something that is being done in a suburban or private school with lots of funding and most students at the standard level, but in an urban classroom.
