www.bullying.org Where you are NOT alone! Created by Bill Belsey - 0 views

I think this tool gives a voice to all of those students who are being bullied (and cyberbullied) and feeling that they are alone in this world. It engages the students so that they can make their own creative submissions to help cope with the isolation they are experiencing and to take control of their situation. There is even a game called "Bully Busters" that allows students to create their own heroes and personalize their experience. Furthermore, there is a section that talks about "Peer Power Presenters", a program that coaches and empowers students to make presentations during Bullying Awareness Week, asserting that presentations will only be made by youth to youth. Finally, there is an option to submit and access helpful resources that include multimedia, books, articles, laws and policies, projects, research, and lesson plans. This site is packed with information and hands on materials.

NMC Horizon Project Report - 3 views

  •
This report came out last week and is the pk-12 2011 edition that describes "emerging technologies likely to have a large impact on teaching, learning, research or creative expression within education around the globe." The groups producing the report are the New Media Consortium and the International Society for Technology in Education. I highly suggest reading the executive summary which gives the trends and challenges predicted for the next five years. It then summarizes the six emerging (within five years) technologies that are the upcoming trends in education. The main report details each technology, gives examples for how each can be implemented in the classroom, and provides additional web sites as resources.

Useful tools for secondary teachers are sites that allow for more access to resources, videos, embedding tools, and printables. I enjoy using Edhelper.com which allows for the creation of content-based puzzles and printable worksheets. Unitedstreaming.com is also a website that provides access to SOL based videos and curriculum units. Though these two websites are not free, edhelper allow teachers to create minimal activities for free and unitedstreaming is often purchased by school districts who receive a site license. Last but not least, I recommend Zamzar.com, which allows teachers to embed YouTube or other videos into PowerPoint presentations that may otherwise be blocked by district internet screening tools.

The thing that wills tick with me from the presentation was the way that you can format a Google Search. I never knew you could adjust a search to meet criteria all the way down to reading level. ...

Great resource! I am saddened that Virginia is not on the state initiative list but maybe someday.

This seems like a very interesting site/organization to note as an overview of the educational topics we are discussing so far. The bulleted articles are quite informative.

This website has some interesting information on major educational initiatives that are going on currently, and educational resources for K-12 and higher education.. For example I found a podcast on using mobile devices in education. My graduate students are all required to have mobile devices, perhaps I could be doing more with this technology?

This was a link I used from Heather's list. It allows students to create cartoons. I developed lesson for reviewing one of the most confusing topics for periodic table. Only low point is students cannot save work on this site.
