Reading between the lines week by week in 2007 - 0 views

  •
This article is very interesting and useful for my research. It gives a week by week break down of the rankings of the books That Oprah has mentioned on her show. It shows how much it is still a factor in how America reads and what they buy. The 2007 list is very impressive just like when she began talking about books in the 90's. This will be a good thing that I can look at and draw some conclusions on about books and effects.

Using a Smaller Plate Did Not Reduce Energy Intake at Meals - 0 views

  •
Rolls conducted a unique experiment to test the effect of varying plate sizes on the amount of energy consumed within the chosen servings. This experiment was conducted in a laboratory setting over the course of 2-3 weeks. It was found that there was not a correlation between plate size and the amount of energy consumed. Results did show that overall, men consumed more than women. This study is beneficial to my research because it analyzes the unique factor of plate size and how it relates to food consumption.

Voices of the World: The Extinction of Language and Linguistic Diversity - 0 views

  •
A film on OhioLINK. "The world is a mosaic of visions, and each vision is encapsulated by a language." Yet every two weeks, one of the world's approximately 6,500 languages dies out. What is the significance of this loss to those who speak the language as well as for the rest of humankind? Why do some languages become global while others disappear? And how are language and identity connected? In this program, linguists David Crystal, Peter Austin, and Jørgen Rischel search for the answers to those and other pressing questions as they investigate the state-and fate-of Livonian, in Latvia; Dogon, in Mali; Mlabri, in Thailand; Changsha Hua and Naqxi, in China; Pitjantjatjara and Pintupi, in Australia; and Tutunaku, in Mexico. Portions are in other languages with English subtitles. (60 minutes)

"Rising marijuana use on campus reflects overall trend." - 0 views

  •
This article from the Harvard school of medicine talks about the rise of marijuana use among college students. They explain that from 1993 to 2000 the number has increased from 12.9 to 15.7 percent. This is a issue and many students have shown that this does not affect their grades. This survey was put out to show the rise in use among college students. Also there are many factors that imply the rise in use among college students. With this information it shows the rise in marijuana use among college students. Many students are turning to marijuana use rather than alcohol use during the weeks. This is a good alternative because it gives some input on how and why some students would choose marijuana over alcohol. This is solid back up information because it shows the increase in marijuana use and gives some statistical information to back it all up. This give some good numbers to support my research paper.
