VR Reading Room - Idea articles - 0 views

  •
Recently I've been having lots of fun doing the run around with my local trains. When you perform a Run Around you bring in a passenger train to a terminal station, load the passengers, then uncouple the locomotive from the train. You pull forward, then take a passing track and reverse past the consist, switch back to the track the consist is on, and re-couple to the consist. After doing this procedure you head back out on the main line going in the opposite direction.

Industry Training Session? - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  • I suggest the first thing you do is to search on the Download Station for "Products". When you do this you will find heaps of different things that can be carried. At the same time you will find a lot of "Industry Tracks" available as well.
  • Another suggestion I would make is that when you are building a route, add a spare baseboard to it. On this place some tracks that you can put your choices on and you can also place buildings etc so that you can just go there and click on the item with the get selection in the flyout and you have your modified unit to place at other spots. I found the best way is to just try things out, if it works ok then keep a noteboke and jot it down for future reference.
  • For example using a built-in industry, the coal mine. I create a consist of different hoppers that can carry coal on a empty track. Then using the Get Consist button in Consist mode, I save the consist as Auran Coal Mine - Coal. This gives me a ready made consist to place on any route

Need help with understanding signalling. - Page 2 - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  •
I think you can define blocks as between signals, as Frosty90 does in her/his reply. But the turnouts do have some sort of overriding function if they have, as they should, a signal protecting the opposite direction of travel. This feature sometimes, but not with all consists, holds following trains at a red until the consist in front has cleared the "opposite direction" signal at the next turnout, even if that is miles down the track. I have found the only reliable solution is to take away the "opposite direction" signal. But, of course, you can't do that if you have a loop, as in this query, or you want two-way working. Somebody, somewhere, must know the rules that are programmed in (TRS04). I am going only from reading the manual, the forum and experimenting.

Question about Industry unload - Trainz Discussion Forums - 1 views

  •
"Is it possible to drive a consist to an industry and unload only 1 car. I would like to drive a consist to Goods shed no 1 and unload car no 1, drive to goods shed no 2 and unload car no 2, etc. This seems like a simple thing to do but I can't figure out how to set it up. Any help is appreciated. "

Switching to Surveyer from driver - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  • If you open the route using QuickDrive Mode in Driver and place your consists using both the Global Consist Library and the QuickDrive panel you can save a driver session and then re-open it again and make changes using GCL and QuickDrive to the saved session. You can do this over and over again. You don't have to make changes in surveyor to rolling stock if you have upgraded to a version that has QuickDrive available. Sorry I don't remember where it was added but it is in SP2. There are only a couple of gotchas: 1. You should stop all trains before saving a Driver session. 2. Interactive industries may not work correctly after opening a saved Driver session

SP2 Quick Drive Quick Start Guide. - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  • SP2 introduces a new feature for placing rolling stock from within Driver. Among its other uses it is quite handy for running a route like a model railroad operating session since you can save your Driver session and restart it again and by using Quick Drive you can make changes to the saved session and continue the session.

Copying and pasting the PATH of AI trainz? - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  • Search for "copy" on the DLS and you find the Copy Commands From (KUID2:192081:1:6). Search for "schedule" and you will find the Schedule Library (KUID2:192081:12:4) along with a few others that may interest you. Make sure that TRS2004 is ticked under the Trainz Versions. Hope that is what you were looking for.
  • For those interested, I downloaded "Copy Commands From" and "Schedule Library" from the Download Station into TRS2009. In Surveyor, open "Edit Sessions Rules" (top left of screen, looks like #), select "Driver Command" from the menu, then Edit. Place a tick against "Copy Commands From". Close this menu. Now click "Add", and add "Schedule Library". Select this and set up the path as as for a normal portal. Give it a name, eg Path1 I'm using Central Portal Control (because it will emit a consist immediately). Open Central Portal Control. Add a consist and driver. Now for the path select Copy Command/Insert/from Library/Path1. Repeat for other consists from this portal. Easy !~! The same procedure can be used for a portal (Surveyor, "?", click on portal) if Central Portal Control is not used. Thanks again. Phil

  • Hi Cascaderailroad, The portal return system can get a bit confusing. It depends on what you want to do and how many consists you want to do it with.

Trigger Multiple Signals - How? - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  • You only need one rule and can set up multiple signals on one trigger in a single set up. In a session set up all the rules etc place a single engine and save the session as map rules. everytime you want to do a new session with the same rules you just open map rules place your consists and save as a different name. This means you wont have to keep setting up the rules everytime. __________________

Trigger Help - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  • I have two sw engines. Each one operates on a trigger. The first goes into the yard, couples to a consist and then takes the consist to a factory and loads. It returns the cars to another spur and uncouples and returns to the stall and waits for the trigger. A portal train brings empties and leaves them on the first track and then goes to the spur and picks up the fulls and takes them to the portal. On the exit it trips the trigger and the process starts over. The second sw operates much the same with a 10 minute wait before it begins. This system works great but you have to state in the trigger rule the name of the loco. You might call the trigger train "Chem-Train" or "Milk-Train" and then that is the only loco that can trip the trigger.
  • The best way to learn about triggers is het up a new track and draw a line of track that goes from one side of the start grid to the other side, -Then pick a train and make sure it has a driver.
  • In the cases of Accipiter777 and Mr_D using the post message and the wait for message and clear commands would eliminate the need for the trigger being set of by another train and would not require Double engined trains to have the AI at the front. These commands dont need to know what engine is being used it has its own tags that the driver sends out and any driver set up to wait for it will then carry out the next task. __________

How do iportals work? [Archive] - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  • Try the Portal Timetable Rule found on the DLS. http://www.openspeedway.net/files/pics/ptr.jpg You can set which portal you want it to come out of with "Emitting Portal You can set what time it comes out with "Add New Timetable" You can set what train comes out with "Add an existing saved consist" You can select a driver with "Add Driver to Consist" You can use the command bar to add and save commands for the AI to follow. To add another train just click on the "I" box at the bottom.

Editing the Driver schedule while in session - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  • I have setup one of my AI drivers to drive a schedule which consists on "coupling" to freight car and then driving to the freight car then hauling to to unload and then i have it set to repeat. My question: Is there away or a rule to remove the "couple" command from the schedule during the session., besides doing it manually?
  • I would set up in the schedule library two sets of commands: the first with the couple/uncouple command and the second one omitting it. Use the 'copy commands from' and insert the first library command, then 'enable repeat' and then finally the second library command. What this does is the first time the train will perform the couple/uncouple action and then in the future repeats of the route this action will not be performed.

Copy Driver Commands to another Consist - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  • I have these commands and I use them on one route, as the basic concept should have been "default built-in" in my view. Yes, you only get the single icon - until it is used, and then it expands to the commands you are copying. But any command you have that are "specialised" like, I use "movetoloco" - these are kept to the original, so you'd have to change to what you need. Hope you understand what I'm saying as I'm not sure that I do!!! Chris
  • If you use Move to train at trackmark the commands will go with the driver. Ive used this a lot for placing the driver from one task to another with a different train. __

random portal train selection - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  • Well yes. Central Portal Control lets the portal select a consist at random from a list that you provide when setting up the portal instructions. It will also emit in sequence if you so desire. I've found that the tricky part is setting up the path for the AI train to follow - it also becomes incredibly tedious if a large number of track marks are used to describe the patch.

How to set up drive schedule - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  • Hi DonVrx, Simple realy when you think about it, a drive command is one off. A drive schedule is a series of drive commands strung together one after the other. When the AI driver completes one command he will look for the next command, if there is no more commands he will stop. If you have a continuous track i.e. a loop you can place a repeat after the last command, this will cause a completed command to be added at the end of the list and used again after all the others have been completed. Cheers, Bill69
  • I have used the Schedule Library and the Copy Schedule command to build a schedule for my AI drivers. The Schedule Library lets you setup a schedule of commands all at once and then share the set of command with more than one driver using the Copy Schedule command. This is easier than setting up each command again for multiple drivers. The schedule command its self is more work. I've used that for passenger trains once, but it was hard to calculate how long a train would take to get between stations because the AI are so unpredictable. John
  • Having a schedule is great for passenger service. Trains leave and arrive at particular times day and night on a consistent basis in real life. By doing this in Trainz, we can make the running more realistic, and have to work the freights in between the scheduled passenger trains as the freights can't get in the way of the highballers. John

Two Questions. 1.Sound... 2.LARS - Trainz Discussion Forums - 0 views

  • Your cattle question...the reason you can't send your AI driver to the packing plants is the way the layout is setup for the Class 1 trains that are running. If you look at the layout in Surveyor you will see that there are direction arrows so they keep to their tracks. What I did was save the layout under a different name and do away with the Class 1(remove the portals) and use the tracks for normal dual track setup. Remove the direction arrows and sort out the signals and you have a great railroad freight system that can run from one end of the layout to the other with a number of consists at the same time. I still keep an original version of the layout because I enjoy doing the great sessions that Phil has created. There is a flour hopper on the DLS, VR VPFX kuid 2:1854:1596:1 O So Lite. There is also a plain one, kuid 2:1854:1595:1. Another hopper you might find handy is the VR JX kuid 50567:108979
  • I'll try to work more with that Beth gondola 86311:999116 and looking at the config.txt, although I think I'm not informed enough to understand that stuff yet, BUT maybe I could understand it!
