Highlights * We explore factors affecting students' engagement with Moodle and Facebook. * Students were not interested in using Moodle, yet active on Facebook. * We use Activity Theory as a lens for data interpretation. * Factors are categorized as technological, individual, and community levels.

Hello there, Thanks for sharing this Ivan - good one I hope I can effectively operationalize some ideas. Thanks Z

Interesting! As are a number of the papers suggested afterwards which I will bookmark too! As an aside you may be interested in the paper Cass Business School students present to the Moodle Research Conference last year: http://research.moodle.net/mod/data/view.php?d=7&rid=124 One point of interest I'm keen to follow is the possible rise in more student-led studies (at City?) - in this case, both surveying students and by students. I'm also interested in how we could look more at involving learners in the design process.

Queen Mary University of London's student survey on use of Moodle - 0 views

  •
Queen Mary carried out a useful survey on their students' experience of their Moodle VLE in 2012/13. This report is very detailed and thorough. It covers many similar issues to those we have faced at City University and many of the learning points and recommendations are relevant to us.

Just in Time to F lip Your C lassroom - 0 views

With advocates like Sal Khan and Bill Gates, flipped classrooms are attracting an increasing amount of media and research attention. We had heard Khan's TED talk and were aware of the concept of inverted pedagogies in general. Yet, it really hit home when we accidentally flipped our classroom. Our objective was to better prepare our students for class. We set out to effectively move some of our course content outside of class and decided to tweak the Just-in-Time-Teaching approach (JiTT). To our surprise, this tweak - which we like to call the flip-JiTT - ended up completely flipping our classroom. What follows is narrative of our experience and a procedure that any teacher can use to extend JiTT to a flipped classroom

MRC 2013: Papers - Use of Moodle at Cas - Student perspective - 0 views

  •
Paper presented at 2013 Moodle Research conference - part of final year undergraduate research at Cass. I think it's important to look at data directly from students. Can we make them real partners in the design and experience of courses?

Thank you for sharing. I wonder whether I might use this approach in my propsed Project.
  •
Thank you, Xena. I have similar thoughts as Ivan. After trying social bookmarking on my own, I am evaluating whether or not to introduce it in my proposed project. The only concern is that: will it become a potential problem as more TEAP weaved into the module?
  •
Thanks, Xena. Useful to get the student perspective on social bookmarking.

AJET 25(3) McGarr (2009) - A review of podcasting in higher education: Its influence on... - 2 views

  • The ability to access this material on portable devices such as MP3 players can enable more mobile access to the material. Evans (2008) argues that the increasing demands on modern learners' time means that they are often forced to study when the opportunity arises, this may be on the bus, train or car, at evening or weekends or during lunch breaks. These demands bring with them the need for portable technologies that enable them to transport their learning materials to access when they can. This 'mobile learning', or m-learning for short, is used widely in distance learning programs because of the relative ease in which the digital resources can be produced (Bongey, Cizadlo & Kalnbach, 2006) and because they facilitate the needs of the learner and enhance their learning experience;

Inquiry-based Learning Model - 0 views

  •
This web article is one of a series on instructional design models. It concisely outlines the The Inquiry-based Learning Model which relies on the idea that individuals are able to learn by investigating scenarios and problems, and through social experiences.

When writing a Final Project my students need to look at previous papers and to learn from that. I wonder whether I will be able to take advantage of this resource to cater for this need.
