"If you're interested in education, at some point someone will have sent you a link to a video by Sir Ken Robinson, knighted for services to education in England in 2003. He has over 250,000 followers on Twitter, his videos have had over 40,000,000 views online, and his 2006 lecture is the most viewed TED talk of all time. "If you can't convince them, confuse them." Simply put, this is the advice that J. Scott Armstrong, a marketing professor at the Wharton School, coolly gives his fellow academics these days. It is based on his studies confirming what he calls the Dr. Fox ypothesis: "An unintelligible communication from a legitimate source in the recipient's area of expertise will increase the recipient's rating of the author's competence."

HTML5 Tutorial - Playlist - YouTube - 0 views

  •
Bucky Roberts (thenewboston.com) introduces the HTML5 family of features and APIs in this YouTube playlist of 53 (so far) 4-5 minute tutorials. As Bucky Says, HTML5 is an evolution of the "HTML Burrito" of HTML, CSS and JavaScript and he has earlier video courses on these as well. I've only watched two episodes, but they seem good quality to me. Thanks to mrparkin for the recommendation.

"I have always liked David White's ideas about digital visitors and residents. And in the training sessions we run we find an increasing individual differentiation in people;s confidence and competence in using digital technologies. In this video David White (@daveowhite, http://twitter.com/daveowhite) of the University of Oxford explains how the Visitors and Residents model provides a framework to understand individuals' engagement with the Web based on motivation and context. In part 1 of this series, he argues that the metaphors of 'place' and 'tool' best represent the use of technology in contemporary society and allow us to better adapt to the challenges of new forms of academic practice."
