Clinical Reasoning: Early mobilization improves functional outcomes in critically ill ... - 5 views

  •
This article focuses on the importance of initiating therapy services, both OT and PT, early, to help increase independence at discharge. The study took place at 2 hospitals; subjects were patients who had been on a ventilator for less than 72 hours and were functionally independent prior to hospitalization. This study mentioned how important it is for early mobility to be provided to patients in the ICU. The authors concluded that therapeutic interventions provided during interruption of sedation, even PROM, helped the patients have shorter periods of delirium, less days on a ventilator during the follow-up period, and return to independent functional status after discharge.
