LingPipe is a suite of Java libraries for the linguistic analysis of human language.

Taste is a flexible, fast collaborative filtering engine for Java. The engine takes users' preferences for items ("tastes") and returns estimated preferences for other items. For example, a site that sells books or CDs could easily use Taste to figure out, from past purchase data, which CDs a customer might be interested in listening to.

MnM is an annotation tool which provides both automated and semi-automated support for annotating web pages with semantic contents. MnM integrates a web browser with an ontology editor and provides open APIs to link to ontology servers and for integrating information extraction tools.

GUESS is an exploratory data analysis and visualization tool for graphs and networks. The system contains a domain-specific embedded language called Gython (an extension of Python, or more specifically Jython) which supports the operators and syntactic sugar necessary for working on graph structures in an intuitive manner. An interactive interpreter binds the text that you type in the interpreter to the objects being visualized for more useful integration. GUESS also offers a visualization front end that supports the export of static images and dynamic movies.

The Java Text Categorizing Library (JTCL) is a pure java 1.5 implementation of libTextCat which in turn is "a library that was primarily developed for language guessing, a task on which it is known to perform with near-perfect accuracy". It's distributed under the LGPL and can also be used in order to categorize text into arbitrary topics by computing appropiate fingerprints which represent the categories.

IRIS includes a machine-learning platform to help automate this process. It provides "dashboard" views, contextual navigation, and relationship-based structure across an extensible suite of office applications, including a calendar, web and file browser, e-mail client, and instant messaging client.

The Historical Event Markup and Linking project provides a means of coordinating and navigating disparate historical materials on the internet. It includes 1. an XML schema for historical events which describes the events' participants, dates, location and keywords; the schema associates these with source materials in print or on the web. 2. XSLT stylesheets that combine conforming documents and generate lists, maps and graphical timelines out of them. Heml integrates these resources using the Cocoon2 web publishing engine.

The Flamenco search interface framework has the primary design goal of allowing users to move through large information spaces in a flexible manner without feeling lost. A key property of the interface is the explicit exposure of category metadata, to guide the user toward possible choices, and to organize the results of keyword searches. The interface uses hierarchical faceted metadata in a manner that allows users to both refine and expand the current query, while maintaining a consistent representation of the collection's structure. This use of metadata is integrated with free-text search, allowing the user to follow links, then add search terms, then follow more links, without interrupting the interaction flow.
