LOD2 - Creating Knowledge out of Interlinked Data - 0 views

  •
The Linked Data paradigm has therefore evolved from a practical research idea into a very promising candidate for addressing one of the biggest challenges in the area of intelligent information management: the exploitation of the Web as a platform for data and information integration in addition to document search. To translate this initial success into a world-scale disruptive reality, encompassing the Web 2.0 world and enterprise data alike, the following research challenges need to be addressed: improve coherence and quality of data published on the Web, ...

Chris Mooney | The Science of Debiasing: The New "Debunking Handbook" Is a Treasure Tro... - 0 views

  •
"I simply cannot believe that John Cook of Skeptical Science and psychologist Stephan Lewandowsky managed, in just 8 pages, to create something as magnificent as their new Debunking Handbook. It is packed not only with wonderful graphics, but also with a clear explanation of why many attempts to defeat misinformation fail, and what steps must be taken to do a better job. The core issue, of course, is one that I've written much about-too many scientists assume that that facts win out on their own, but that isn't actually true"

High-dose opiates could crack chronic pain : Nature News & Comment - 0 views

  •
Has a cheap and effective treatment for chronic pain been lying under clinicians' noses for decades? Researchers have found that a very high dose of an opiate drug that uses the same painkilling pathways as morphine can reset the nerve signals associated with continuous pain - at least in rats. If confirmed in humans, the procedure could reduce or eliminate the months or years that millions of patients spend on pain-managing prescription drugs. The results of the study are described today in Science1.

"The WorldCat knowledge base combines data about your library's electronic resources and linking features that enable access to the content and help you manage the workflows associated with these materials. Unlike data in a traditional knowledge base, WorldCat knowledge base data is not tied to a particular application. Knowledge base data is added and maintained in a single place for use with a growing number of OCLC and non-OCLC services."

"In short, this site is a record of my learning process as I try to understand aspects of colony health and productivity, and the reasons why various management techniques work (or don't). If you are a beginning beekeeper looking for basic information, or an experienced beekeeper looking for a summary of mite treatment options, I suggest that you go directly to Basic Beekeeping. I started keeping bees as a hobbyist in 1967, and then went on to get university degrees in biological sciences, specializing in entomology. In 1980 I began to build a migratory beekeeping operation in California, and currently run about 1000 hives with my two sons, from which we make our livings. In 1993, the varroa mite arrived in California, and after it wiped out my operation for the second time in 1999, I decided to "hit the books" and use my scientific background to learn to fight back"

"The CoLaborator will be set up in an independent building of 800 square meters at the Bayer research campus in Berlin. There will be about 420 square meters of space for laboratories. Attractively designed laboratory and office modules and shared infrastructure such as a conference room offer ideal conditions for nascent companies - at manageable investment costs. A new home will be established for start-ups in life sciences whose ideas, developments and technology platforms are related to Bayer HealthCare's research interests."

M. Haselhuhn, E. Wong: scinexx | Männer: Breites Gesicht provoziert Egoismus ... - 0 views

  •
