    The goals of this effort is to design and implement a configurable and extensible semantic eScience framework. Configuration will require some research into accommodating different levels of semantic expressivity and user requirements from use cases. Extensibility will be achieved in a modular approach to the semantic encodings (i.e. ontologies) performed in a community setting, i.e. an ontology framework into which specific applications all the way up to communities can extend the semantics for their needs.

    DiscOU is a resources discovery engine relying on a semantic index of Open University Open Content. It semantically analyses the content of an online resource, and matches it by similarity to other existing Open University content to retrieve the most relevant pieces. It currently works with BBC programme pages, as demonstrated in the video below, as well as from text entered/pasted in the DiscOU alfa interface.

    The AIFB Web Portal is the public web site of the Institute of Applied Informatics and Formal Description Methods (AIFB) at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. It uses Semantic MediaWiki to provide a highly customised Content Management System.     LAWA will federate distributed FIRE facilities with the rich Web repository of the European Archive, to create a Virtual Web Observatory and use Web data analytics as a use case study to validate our design.
