Good overview of action research. "This booklet discusses several types of action research, its history, and a process that may be used to engage educators in action research. Two stories from the field, written by teachers about their own reflections on the process, are given as illustrations of action research."

"This is a really big deal. For the first time in history it is easy for non-specialists to explore and closely examine art from museums across the globe on a single website.... Here are two examples of how the Google Art Project opens the conversation. In 1889, Vincent van Gogh painted three canvases depicting his bedroom in Arles; these now reside in three different museums. Only the van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam illustrates another version on its website and remarkably, none of the three museums link to the paintings at the other institutions."

This teacher chose to have his students create RSA Animate-style videos as "an easy way to make them visualize their information, make connections, and re-tell their facts in a story that had a very tight story line that flowed.  All skills that would transfer nicely to any traditional essay." He really emphasizes the preparation and planning stages, which is great. He also talks about the process, which is useful.  All said, a great resource.

It's somewhat hard to visualize a billion, let alone seven. Still, this video does a nice job of describing the population explosion of the last couple centuries.

Interesting possibility for digital maps. Free and crowdsourced. People seem to think learning how to create a layer is fairly easy, too.

We purchased the client software version of arcGIS made for K-12 use and had it on all RCS PC's for about 4 years. We were not able to get any integrations with it launched. Dropped support for it two years ago due to lack of use. Maybe interest in GIS has changed since Google Earth has come on the scene? Anyone interested in looking at GIS applications for RCS?
