The document will be available for review from January 30, 2012 to March 28, 2012. The comment period for the application will be open from February 27, 2012 until March 28, 2012, during this comment period there will be 5 public meetings held within communities around the state.

The internship program is designed to provide undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to gain experience and learn about TASH and its work in human rights advocacy, education access, community living, employment and full inclusion. What: MBI is currently taking applications for additional schools interested in becoming MBI sites for the 2011-2012 school year. Each site must identify a team that is representative of the staff at their site (including an administrator). Site MBI Teams may apply to attend four days of MBI Team Training during the school year. These trainings will be held in the five CSPD regions in order to make them accessible for all those interested. Click here to view and download the full application

It's that time again, the National Youth Leadership Network is currently accepting applications for our Governing Board and Committees. Now is the perfect time for youth to get involved with NYLN! We have a ton of really cool projects lined up. We are focusing on more grassroots level activism, youth-led media projects, and building interdependent support systems. We are looking for young folks who want to take an active role in the organization. We especially want to prioritize youth of color leadership, so please support youth of color in applying. Governing board and committee positions are open to youth with any disability between the ages of 15 through 28. (Like Child Welfare, Foster Care, Juvenile Justice, Special Education, etc.) Do you have expertise and experience that others may benefit from? Have you developed training materials or presentations to share with others? Youth MOVE National is looking for YOU to share your voices and experience! We are looking for Youth and Young Adults to serve as Consultants in our newly established Consulting and Technical Assistance Pool. Consultants are paid to provide training, speeches, technical assistance, and more to organizations interested in learning more about youth engagement, empowerment, and youth voice in systems change. What: Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) are disability income benefits administered by the Social Security Administration (SSA) that also provide Medicaid and/or Medicare health insurance to individuals who are eligible. The application process for SSI/SSDI is complicated and difficult to navigate. Nationally, about 37 percent of individuals who apply for these benefits are approved on initial application and appeals take an average of two years to complete. For people who are homeless or who are returning to the community from institutions (jails, prisons or hospitals), access to these programs can be extremely challenging. Approval on initial application for people who are homeless and who have no one to assist them is about 10-15 percent. For those who have a mental illness, substance use issues, or co-occurring disorders that impair cognition, the application process is even more difficult – yet accessing these benefits is often a critical first step in recovery. SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access and Recovery (SOAR) is an approach that helps states increase access to mainstream benefits for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness through: Strategic Planning Meeting(s) to establish collaboration among key state and/or local stakeholders and to develop an action plan for implementing the SOAR approach (e.g. SSA and Disability Determination Services (DDS); State Mental Health Agency and Department of Corrections leadership; and community homeless, health and behavioral health providers). Training of case managers using SAMHSA's Stepping Stones to Recovery curriculum that includes a step-by-step explanation of an improved SSI/SSDI application process. A Train-the-Trainer program allows for expansion and sustainability. Technical Assistance to states and communities including support for action plan implementation, training observations with feedback, and assistance with tracking outcomes in order to document success and help access additional resources.  (SOAR Technical Assistance Center. http://www.prainc.com/SOAR). MCHA will begin accepting applications for this new option on July 1, 2010.  The first date that coverage can be effective is August 1, 2010.  Please keep in mind that applications received on the 1st through the 15th of the month may have an effective date of the first of the following month.  Applications received the 16th through 31st may have an effective date of the 15th of the following month.  To qualify, an individual must be a citizen or national of the United States, or lawfully present, must be a Montana resident, must have a preexisting medical condition and must have been uninsured for at least 6 months before applying for the federal program. Enrollment in the federal MAC Plan is limited and on a first-come basis.

The course is designed to be taught using a co-leader training model. Both teachers must have been trained in use of the curriculum by either a NAMI National trainer or a nationally certified state trainer. Teacher trainings are expensive, time consuming and can be emotionally draining for all involved. In an effort to ensure that only the best candidates participate in the training, NAMI organizations are encouraged to use an application process to select individuals to participate in teacher trainings. There is a sample Teacher Application form in the COURSE FORMS section on page CF-1 that can be used as the first step. Individuals who are interested in being trained to teach the curriculum must meet the following criteria: Be the parent or other primary caregiver of an individual who began experiencing symptoms prior to the age of 13 (it is not necessary that the child have been formally diagnosed prior to 13). It is important that all individuals trained in this curriculum have lived through the experiences of having a young child with a mental illness. Be at a point in their life where they are familiar and comfortable with the emotional issues families face and can self-disclose about their own feelings of guilt, anger, shame, ambivalence and grief regarding their life situation. Be willing to participate in an intensive weekend training on how to teach the curriculum. Be willing to make the commitment to participants in the course, the co-leader and to the NAMI organization to complete the 15-hour course once it begins.
