On 25 April 2013, Matthew State reviewed the genetic discoveries made over the past several years in autism research and addressed challenges in the path forward — from reliable gene discovery to an actionable understanding of the disorder’s molecular underpinnings. What: As a part of the Mayo Clinic’s outreach to rural communities, we are fortunate to have Dr. Tanya Brown come to Missoula to share information about non– verbal learning disabilities. The purpose of these sessions is to understand the history, identify core features and review case illustrations of non-verbal learning disabilities for parents, educators and medical staff. Monday’s lecture will focus on core features and strategies to support students in home and school . Tuesday’s lecture will provide more of the medical background behind diagnosis, review case illustrations and relevant treatment recommendations and accommodations.

Kojiro Hirose, a professor at the Graduate University of Advanced Studies and the National Museum of Ethnology in Osaka, Japan, and a visiting scholar at the University of Chicago, will present, “The World through Touch: Creating a Museum Everyone Can Enjoy” at 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, in 1-121 Wilson Hall at Montana State University.  Hirose, who is visually disabled, will lecture about his work as an organizer of various exhibitions of “tactile culture” at Japan's National Museum of Ethnology, and his efforts to make museums accessible for everyone.

A growing number of educators are working to turn learning on its head by replacing traditional classroom lectures with video tutorials, an approach popularly called the "flipped classroom." Nov. 1, 2010: Tim Spofford presents a public lecture to the university community on the functional and legal importance of ensuring that university technology such as web pages and applications can be accessed by people with disabilities.

BILLINGS - The victim of the crash on King Avenue West and South 29th Street Monday night is identified as Merry Jane Trewhella. She worked in the Education Department at MSU-Billings as a lecturer through 2008. MSU-B Director of University and Government Relations, Dan Carter, says Trewhella was a staunch supporter of students with special needs and special education. MSU-Billings issued the following statement: "She was a genuine person who always put students needs first. She will be missed by all who knew her."
