It has facts and stats on poverty like the percentage of people in the world at different poverty levels. And it tells how much people die from poverty. it made me sad that alot of people live on 2.50$ or less on food everyday!

Wow...this article really grabs you with the first few facts. I find it heartbreaking that 1 in 2 children, over 1 billion in all, live in poverty. When one is born into poverty, it's hard to leave it. These 1 billion children may never know what it's like to not be hungry.

This article really opens your eyes to the reason why we have poverty. It gives who is to blame and why many people don't know about poverty or very little about it.

I read it and it looked very sad and it made me feel sorry for the people, but also the facts are very shocking. The "1 in 6 families have the government's anti-poverty program" made me think that about 13 people in here have the program.

proverty has grown 41.7 percent in ohio last year. Most of the people who have proverty has a family of four. Thats just sad because i have a family of 4 and we are having hard times with money. My family is working out the prombles fast because we don't want to go homeless.

It was surprising that the population only increased 1% but the poverty level increased 41%. It made me realize how many people are in poverty right here in Ohio.

i am very surprised that about 33% of Ohio people are poor :(

This article is about the causes of poverty. Poverty is caused by overpopulation, unequal distribution of resources, costs of living, inadequate education, and unemployment. I was upset by the some of the causes of poverty, but hopeful too, because some of the causes could be changed in order to end poverty.

This article is extremly useful to me since i'm thinking about doing my report thing on causes. but its amazing how many causes there are and what they are.

I think that the most prominent reasons for poverty are inadequate education and pverpopulation. This makes more sense to why the US has a lot of poverty.

I liked this artical because not only did it show that some myths about homless people arn't ture is also showed a story about a man who wasonce homless but now has a job and i thought i was uplefting.

I would disagree; other people turned his life around for him. Do you really think that if he didn't have rehab PAYED FOR HIM he would have sought help for his addiction? He wouldn't have told anybody :/ Sure, it's awesome that he was found on the street, and that HIS life is better, but there are STILL people who I believe deserve help more than him. It makes me sick that all the corrupt people are the ones who get all the attention, when the pure are left to fend for themselves.

I like this article it is very interesting about how he was homeless one day and then in 3 days he's now rich and has a house. so i think what they are trying to say is that not all homeless people are non talented school drop outs. they are trying to say that some are very talented and might have messed up in life.

It gives causes and facts about hunger in the U.S. It was very eye opening when I read that 13 percent of people in the U.S. struggle with hunger. 16.7 million children live in households that struggle with putting food on the table.

In the "hunger and poverty in african americans" article, i was so shocked of the total income, food insecurities, and poverty total. I am completely blown away by this!

I definetly agree with Adele. It's also sad that 51.4% of Americans will live in poverty before the age of 65. But it is nice to see that not only does this website have facts that grab you and give you a sense of how big this problem is, they also have solutions. The more solutions we can get, the better.

I couldn't believe how many people were in poverty and how how fast it was rising. When i read this i wanted to donate food to food pantries so people in poverty could have more to eat.

I found it very shocking by how much the poverty rate increased from 2008 to 2009. It didnt even show 2010 or 2011 which means it must have rapidly increased again. Its a great website but a very sad one.

I thought the quote "poverty in early childhood poisons the brain," was really interesting. If you are in poverty as a child you feel ashamed and never are brought out of it, then making your children live it in their lives too. I thought that quote was very strong.

I thought that it was really sad when they said that one of the reasons people are in poverty is because they are disabled mentally or physically. Another reason that people are in poverty is because they have little to no education which is one reason they can't get a job. I thought that these were reasons that we take for granite everyday. We complain about going to school, but i bet most people in poverty wish they were where we are now.

35.9 million people in America live below the poverty line. About 100 billion pounds of food each year is wasted in America. Those living in poverty would gladly accept the food that would go to waste. Some families have to skip a meal or each very little becasue they can't afford to eat alot. In a house, about 14% of the food that is bought will be wasted. And around 49 million people could have been fed by that food. \nSeeing all of the wasted food and people that could use that food makes me want to find a way to save some of that food and give it to people in poverty. Also it's sad to know that there are alot of kids out there that live in poverty. If I were a parent it would be hard on me not being able to provide for my kids.

I was surprised to hear that the west was in the most poverty, I had always thought of the west as well off.

This is unbelieveable! 22,000 children die every day due to poverty? It makes me feel like we really need to do SOMETHING. We have enough money to make a big change in the poverty levels, if we did something about it.

i think its really sad that over half of the world makes less than 2.30 dollars a day. its also sad how many kids and people die each day from poverty and hunger. we should think of better ways to provide other people with food because there is enough for everyone.

General Facts about poverty in America. Facts include-Household participation in the food stamp program has increased 20.28% since last year,The number of Americans on food stamps surpassed 41 million for the first time ever in June 2010, Nearly 10 million Americans now receive unemployment insurance, which is almost four times as many as in 2007, and more. This is very depressing. We need to do something before it gets worse.

It's amazing how much the food stamp program has increased and how many families are in poverty! I also like how they make the facts short and add pictures, because for me it makes it much more interesting.

These are the stories of many children and tennagers tat are facing poverty. One of the articles I find really disturbing is the one about white Guinea Worms, which grow in the body after drinking contaminated water and eventually burst throught the skin, to be pulled out by hand. These parasites can grow to be meters in length.

It's so sad to see what people have to go through, and it's great that these organizations are providing them education.

I think that is was so sad when the kids were talking about their dreams one day of going to college and pulling themselves out of poverty. Hopefully one day the United States and even us can help them to achieve their goals and dreams.
