"Thanks to the efforts of Roland and Leigh, the Teachmeet Melbourne community had a lovely gathering on February 8.  It was encouraging to see so many teachers brave the 40 deg temperatures, but not surprising given that the venue was a lovely pub with air conditioning and bar!  "

I love the organization and visuals she used in the screencast. There's a graphic below from her screencast about tagging.

What do you love? - 3 views

  •
Google has no shortage of services around the web, but those various information resources often seem disconnected. A new Google interface, called WDYL - or "What Do You Love?" - resolves that by bringing together previews of various specialized Google searches in one place.
  •
Google's 'what do you love' search retrieves results organised by medium, eg books, videos, pictures, etc. Some random things here too.

  •
"Finland is planning to phase out handwriting classes in favour of keyboard skills, a recognition that this generation will never write a letter, birthday card or love letter. Instead, they'll text, tap and tweet."

Learning to love teach meets - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
There is a growing momentum in education driven by a desire to share our practice and learn from our colleagues. Increasingly teachers are finding ways to break free of their classrooms and share their ideas. Collaborations in the interests of unlocking the collective potential of the profession are spreading within and importantly between schools. For many these collaborative endeavours and desires are satisfied by online communities but for many the possibility for a face to face conversation is more alluring.

The Ultimate Guide to Gamifying Your Classroom | Edudemic - 0 views

  •
"A gamified classroom has many benefits. Students are required to think critically, problem-solve, consider alternative solutions, and analyze information from multiple sources. Gamification, though, is no easy chore and you may need a lot of support along the way. Our best advice is to smart small, dive in, see what works, and tweak your plans along the way. We'd love to hear about your experiences with gamification in the classroom"

PHYLO: THE TRADING CARD GAME - 2 views

  •
"an online initiative aimed at creating a Pokemon card type resource but with real creatures on display in full "artistic" wonder. Not only that - but we plan to have the scientific community weigh in to determine the content on such cards, as well as folks who love gaming to try and design interesting ways to use the cards. Then to top it all off, members of the teacher community will participate to see whether these cards have educational merit. Best of all, the hope is that this will all occur in a non-commercial-open-access-open-source-because-basically-this-is-good-for-you-your-children-and-your-planet sort of way."

Around the Corner-MGuhlin.org: Embracing Innovation - FOSS in Schools @neisd - 0 views

  •
Students are using a dual-boot machine with UbuntuLinux and Windows XP. I love this account of how he got the change going at a Technology magnet school...note the focus is on bringing innovative experiences to students rather than making it easier for District Technology Department staff to do their job, which unfortunately, is what keeps GNU/Linux out of many school districts: The Rudd laptop scheme damaged the use of linux in schools in Aus. Maybe this will help.

Ewan McIntosh: iPad Learning for All the Wrong Reasons - 5 views

  •
"The iPad itself is a great device -- I love mine and it's changed the nature of computing on our couch. It is the ultimate in personal computing; it is not, as my wife and I have discovered, very good at being a shareable device"
  •
Interesting iPad review. Good reason why kids need these tablet computers in the hands, not locked up in school labs or libraries.

This teacher's kids want to use pop music they love for a project.  Their teacher wants them to do so legally and with respect, so he's trying to contact the artist directly.  To get her attention (the artist is Taylor Swift), he's asking all his Twitter PLN to re-tweet his open letter to Taylor Swift to her Twitter account, so her mentions column will be filled with the RT of his letter.  If you Tweet, please copy and paste this into Twitter:RT @thenerdyteacher An Open Letter to @TaylorSwift13 - http://bit.ly/gV6uaH
