  •
Barry McGaw, the chairman of the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority, the agency responsible for the site, said it could spark debate about how resources were divided between the education bureaucracy and schools. ''It's not only going to be parents who might be surprised, some principals of government schools might be surprised about how much is being spent on their behalf centrally

DAVID GARCIA STUDIO - 2 views

  •
DAVID GARCIA STUDIO is an experimental architectural platform. The Studio's work spans through various scales, and from the social sphere to the technical, often challenging the status-quo through inventiveness and a cross-disciplinary approach. We truly believe that what exists is only a small part of what is possible, and we design driven by this principle.

Tony Vincent's Learning in Hand - Blog - iPad 2's Display Mirrored on a Big Screen - 0 views

  •
"A feature that has long been request by educators has finally arrived in iPad 2: video mirroring. Video mirroring shows exactly what's on your device's screen on a second display, like a projector, television, or monitor. We're used to video mirroring with laptops--many teachers do this everyday. iPad 2 requires either the Apple VGA Adapter or Apple Digital AV Adapter. The VGA adapter connects to most projectors while the digital adapter connects to HDMI, which is common on newer televisions. Apple Digital AV Adapter also outputs sound while the VGA adapter outputs only video to the display."

SearchTeam - real-time collaborative search engine - 3 views

  •
SearchTeam is a collaborative search engine. You start your research by creating a SearchSpace on a topic of interest. From within a SearchSpace, you can search the Web, videos, images, books and more. You can find and save only what you want while you are searching and throw away what you don't want or find irrelevant. You can automatically organize what you save, into folders of your choosing. Everything is automatically saved into your personal account, and you can return to your searches any time and continue from where you left before. What makes SearchTeam unique and valuable is that you can do your searches collaboratively with others you trust, such as friends, colleagues and family members. You can invite any set of people you trust to search with you from within a SearchSpace. An invitation is sent via email to those people you invite to join your search. When they enter your SearchSpace, they see exactly what you've found and saved so far. They can comment on or like your findings. They can chat with you from within the SearchSpace, and do further searches relevant to that topic and save more results into the SearchSpace. All changes made by any collaborator are relayed to all other collaborators in real-time, so everyone is instantly in synch with what others are doing. In addition to finding and saving search results, SearchTeam goes further to enable you to enrich your SearchSpace with knowledge that may come from other sources. You can upload documents to a SearchSpace to share your relevant reports / presentations etc. You can also add links to Web resources that you may have received from others via email or social networks. You can even create new posts to share your knowledge on the topic directly inside the SearchSpace. Together, as a team, you can leverage the collective effort to find good quality information, and benefit from the collective knowledge on any topic efficiently. In effect, SearchTeam is traditional Web searching + Wiki-like editi

Facebook can serve as personality test › News in Science (ABC Science) - 1 views

  •
"Companies who want to know more about prospective employees can learn a lot by checking their Facebook profiles, according to a new study. Jennifer Golbeck and colleagues at the University of Maryland surveyed the public profiles of nearly 300 Facebook users for information about their favourite activities, TV shows, movies, music, books, quotes, and membership in political or other organisations. They also looked at the "About Me" and "blurb" sections. The work did not include status updates or other data that is only available to users' online friends."

Fun and games - 1 views

  •
"VIDEO games have become one of the most notable features of our culture, yet the industry receives relatively scant attention in mainstream media. This is not only curious, it is unfortunate; because many parents and carers and educators remain unnecessarily wary of this crucible of creativity. The reach of these games is expanding with the take-up of smartphones and tablet computers. A recent study by the head of media communications and technology at Bond University, Jeffrey Brand, found that about 95 per cent of Australian children under 15 play video games."

The CLE described below is unique, in that the staff and students using the platform have very similar levels of access rights. Control is kept with the staff only where it absolutely necessary. We have developed this platform at the School of Engineering at the University of Portsmouth in a very short time and there may be bugs and inactive features. This blog will warn you about these in advance

There seems to be a great deal of discussion about BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) lately and where it might fit into the big scheme of things - if only students were allowed to bring their own personal device into the classroom with them.

The Hierarchy Of Tweets - Analysing The Psychology of Twitter - 0 views

  •
Ever noticed that folk using Twitter seem to fit into patterns according to what they share? Have you found that over time you begin to review your incoming twitter stream according to some sort of inbuilt filter that you devise according to this pattern? The Innovation Diaries has pondered on this and the needs that folk bring to their Tweeps. Relating this to the work of Abraham Maslow the diaries have come up with a Hierarchy of Tweets. Not only informative but quite amusing it is interesting to try to place ones self in the hierarchy and even more so your twitter friends :).

If you're like me and you've just installed the latest iLife suite then you'll know that there have been some major updates especially to iMovie 09. This quite detailed exploration the new features is enhanced with some great screen grabs to support the explanation. The only minor quibble is that the tutorial is a one page presentation which because it is image dense, can take a little time to download.

SCAMPER is a strategy that can be used to assist students to generate new or alternative ideas. It is a tool to support creative, divergent thinking. SCAMPER is an acronym for: substitute, combine, adapt, modify/magnify/minify, put to other uses, eliminate, reverse/rearrange. What is its purpose? SCAMPER is a thinking tool that helps students to ask questions about a concept, text, or idea that require them to think beyond the obvious. It can help develop critical thinking skills and creativity and is a useful cooperative learning tool and a great stimulus for role play. In this post from Litemind, Lucciano " ....... presents a complete SCAMPER primer, along with two free creativity-boosting resources: a downloadable reference mind map and an online tool that generates random questions to get you out of a rut whenever you need." In this very comprehensive post Luciano note only explains the terminology associated with SCAMPER but also lists suggested questions as well as "Trigger Words".

Stupeflix - Video creation made easy - 0 views

  •
Stupeflix is another one of those online apps/spaces that enable you to create slideshows using images from online or your camera to which you can add a soundtrack. The big difference with this one is that you can actually download the "movie" to your own computer either as an mp4 or flash file. You can also select to group images so that they have the same transition. This also enables you to add soundtracks specific to each group. The only downside is that there is no direct embed code, instead you have to upload the movie to a thrid party site such as TeacherTube and then use this code to embed it as below.

The Arts Of Influence - 4 views

The Art of Influence is a must-read for anyone desiring the wisdom to influence others, We might wonder at an acclaimed and professional speaker the orator the Obama like gifted at speech, imagine what influence he's got over his audience. He does not take a dramatic or theatrical approach, but offers a delivery appropriate to the format Listeners who enjoy attending electoral campaigns and congress men alike are only left with one choice "YES WE CAN" and before soon he is winning a Noble peace price. We all in our domains of interest will desire the same type of solid and engaging motivational hypnotic glamour as that used by this protagonist in portraying the interactions between his influence and success- we wonder

Technologically Externalized Knowledge and Learning « Connectivism - 2 views

  •
Reformers have largely worked within, rather than on, the system of education. Working within the system has resulted in status-quo preservation, even when reformists felt they were being radical. Illich failed to account for how educational institutions are integrated into society. Freire spoke with a humanity and hope that was largely overlooked by a comfortable developed world incapable of seeing the structure and impact of its system. To create and nurture change, a message must not only be true for an era, but it must also resonate with the needs, passions, interests, realities, and hopes of the audience to whom the message is directed.
