"Publish, not Perish: Supporting Graduate Students as Aspiring Authors" by Barbara Alvarez, Jennifer L. Bonnet et al. - 0 views

  •
A very good article on library role in encouraging and supporting the student publishing. It deals mainly with student scientific writing and not so much with student journals, but certainly writing scientific articles is a part of it. The article includes a real-life case study, which to my mind is added value of it. Including scholarly communication skills as part of library training program is a very good idea.

  •
If Google Translate gets it right, the article suggests 7 ideas to promote open acces in Latin America: - Promote a culture of open access among the young - Invite the new generation of researchers to build a new set of rules governing scholarly communication.- - Manage national access strategies - Promote awareness of the potential of open access - Provide training to scientists regarding intellectual property - Improve and standardize the taxonomy of documents to increase their visibility - Help Open Access journals to gain prestige These will apply to all other regions of the world as well. It shoul be noted that much of it can be done by the indivdual researcher, while some will best be untertaken by universities or libraries or even the state.

Global eJournals Library - 1 views

  •
Does anyone know about Global eJournals Library? It seems to be a subscription-based discovery service that indexes all of the open access or post-embargo journal articles it can find. The two private companies that operate this service, from the UK and India, are not very clear. It claims to have indexed many more articles (7 million) and journals than DOAJ (almost 2 million). I'm curious about the whole thing!

7 things you should know about Citizen Journalism - 1 views

  •
Citizen journalism refers to a wide range of activities in which everyday people contribute information or commentary about news events. People behind the citizen journalism can range from News Company to a normal citizen writing about anything they wish to share with the world. How they wish share it is up to them. They may use blogs, videos, among other social medias. The significance of citizen journalism is that they may share things that people may not know about or may share things that other "professional" sources are not willing to talk about. However, there are downsides to citizen journalism, such as reliability and validity. This site has everything you need to know about Citizen Journalism.
  •
The resource is good. Citizen journalism is a resource that everyone can join and contribute to. However, not everyone can and is willing to join it. This is a pity of citizen journalism. on the other hand, like what is above, there are problems about reliability and validity

Dissimenation, Open Access, DOAJ list, etc. discussed in one resource - 1 views

  •
This is a great resource if you are interested in how things like publication strategy, data management, dissimenation, Open Access, DOAJ list, etc. discussed and applied in the Netherlands at one of the top research universities. This is a blog. It has been written and maintained voluntarily by a bibliometrician, who has been working at Wageningen University Library over 7 years. Posts and themes are in English They are very well written and structured. At the bottom part of the Home page you can find Categories, Recent Comments, Keywords, and Archive - they are very well linked and make search and navigation easy. Another bonus is that every post/article supplied with international and local references, which gives this source depth.

7 Things You Should Know About Open Textbook Publishing - 0 views

  •
The open educational resources model, including textbooks, has emerged as a response to rising text prices, a need for greater access to high-quality learning materials, the proliferation of e-reader devices, and a trend in publishing toward electronic media. Many contend that educational resources should be open and that instructional models increasingly depend on open content.

  •
Interesting article on Twitters use outside of social interactions Twitter has been increasingly share-y with its enormous data set. Given the recent $10 million grant to MIT to analyze and put social media data to use, how grand are Twitter's research aspirations? Twitter reports about 500 million tweets are sent every day, from 271 million users (the population of the United States is 317 million) in more than 35 different languages.

7 Things You Should Know About the Flipped Classroom - 10 views

  •
Good to share with anyone not entirely familiar with the "flipped classroom"-concept.
  •
Thank you for sharing this! I've heard about this pedagogical concept, and it was mentioned in one of our video lectures this week. This is a very good summary, but actually I am extremely happy to lean about the EDUCAUSE. Educational Technology is my professional field, so this is a great resource for me.
