Is There a Sustainable MOOC Business Model? Is "open" in open eduction will remain open and free from restriction? Can Coursera, Khan Academy, and other MOOC platforms be a $100-million business or a billion dollar business? It will take more time to learn the answer.

Executive education courses are most schools' main sources of income. They are often customized and sold to private corporations, covering business trends such as big data and leadership. Moocs are seen by many in the education sector as a direct threat to MBA and master's programs, offering similar content developed by tenure or tenure-track professors, but free of charge.

Remember when the for profit university rose to a new prominence a decade or so ago, and everyone you knew flocked to the University of Phoenix to finish their degree and get a fabulous new job? I hope the MOOC doesn't turn into that. The hope was that it would enable those isolated by distance and means would elevate themselves thru their use. Sadly, according to findings by Forbes, it's mostly white, educated, employed American males taking them. I wonder which carries more weight with hiring managers--the MOOC-taker, or the traditional paying student?

Open education is the purpose of MOOC. Obviously, open education is a correct trend of education system. MOOC always is a debatable issue, a new area where no rule to control it. In that case, there are some chaos in Open knowledge including intellectual property, and business model of MOOC and so on. But now, the US government decide to promote it, may will bring a bloom to open education and benefit people around the world

Providers of free online courses are officially in the headhunting business, bringing in revenue by selling to employers information about high-performing students who might be a good fit for open jobs. On Tuesday, Coursera, which works with high-profile colleges to provide massive open online courses, or MOOC's, announced its employee-matching service, called Coursera Career Services.

"The edupunks are on the march. From VC-funded startups to the ivied walls of Harvard, new experiments and business models are springing up from entrepreneurs, professors, and students alike. Want a class that's structured like a role-playing game? An accredited bachelor's degree for a few thousand dollars? A free, peer-to-peer Wiki university? These all exist today, the overture to a complete educational remix."

Learning the language of code empowers a new kind of entrepreneur to make extraordinary creative leaps with their business. There are many examples, such as Andy Puddicombe who has used technology to bring meditation and mindfulness to the world with his business HEADSPSACE, and Lily Cole who has created IMPOSSIBLE - a way of allowing people to utilise the gift economy online.

This piece is related to the idea of open knowledge in that it deals with one professor's year-long experiment with synchronous teaching over a Skype connection. While the professor felt that it worked better and more seamlessly than anyone could have imagined, he remains unsure as to whether telepedagogy has a place in our traditional academic settings. While a bit different in scope, idea and execution than a mooc, it is another example of new ways in which traditional learning is giving way to 21st technology. Video conferencing is now an every day part of most businesses, and here is an entire semester's class being "phoned in" via Skype. As the article points out, its usefulness in a traditional setting is up in the air. Yet there would seem to be an obvious utility in bringing this give and take classroom setting to remote locations that might have internet access but not easy access to schools or specific professors. Yet another way to make knowledge or the access to knowledge more open.

Great post .. Well I think it may take time for people to adapt into the digital situations.. And in developing counties situation is even worst than that.. not only with skype , online at all would not work because people think and so use to the didactic pedagogy. All the things are centered with in the teachers presence..
