WikiEducator post by Cable Green: OER Policy Registry, Request for Help Options - 0 views

  •
Creative Commons (CC) has received a small grant to create an "OER Policy Registry." The Open Education Resources (OER) Policy Registry will be a place for policy makers and open advocates to easily share and update OER legislation, OER institutional policies and supporting OER policy resources. We have begun to enter OER policies into the registry, but we need your help to make it a truly useful global resource. ... Will you please: (1) Contribute any OER policies you know about on this form. http://goo.gl/9TmUV We are collecting both legislative AND institutional (non- legislative) OER policies from around the world. Your form submissions will be added to this draft list of OER policies. (2) Review the draft list of OER policies. http://goo.gl/i6i9W If any entries need to be fixed, please email us at oer@creativecommons.org

Patell and Waterman's History of New York · Being a … course, companion, blog... - 0 views

  •
An example of a faculty-centered open educational resource for the celebration of local cultures. "The Project on New York Writing seeks to generate significant new research and teaching about New York's relationship to American and global literatures and cultures.... The Project will offer students of New York literature and culture resources with which to interpret the palimpsest that is New York, to help them make sense of the myriad narratives that the city generates. One of the Project's chief aims is conservancy: we hope to preserve the history of New York writing for future generations. But another aim is the promotion of innovation: we hope to encourage all whom the Initiative serves to add to the living culture of city, reading and rewriting its narratives, enlarging the literary construct that is New York."

Models of Sustainability for OER - 0 views

  •
Using Wiley (2007) definition of sustainability as "an open educational resource project's ongoing ability to meet its goals." Wiley's three models that he characterized as follows: - The MIT model: "highly centralised and tightly coordinated in terms of organisation and the provision of services, relying almost exclusively on paid employees" - The USU model: "hybrid of centralisation and decentralisation of both organisation and services, and work is distributed across some employed staff and a number of volunteers" - The Rice model: "almost fully decentralised and volunteers provide almost all services"

The MOOC Guide, moderated by Stephen Downes - 0 views

The purpose of this document is two-fold: - to offer an online history of the development of the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) - to use that history to describe major elements of a MOOC Each chapter of this guide looks at one of the first MOOCs and some early influences. It contains these parts: - a description of the MOOC, what it did, and what was learned - a description of the element of MOOC theory learned in the offering of the course - practical tools that can be used to develop that aspect of a MOOC - practical tips on how to be successful Contribute to this Book You are invited to contribute. If you participated in a MOOC, add a paragraph describing your experience (you can sign your name to it, so we know it's a personal story). If you know of resources or can add information about an element of MOOC theory, add to or edit the text that already exists. If you know of tools, provide a link to the tool, a short description, and your assessment of the tool. If you have a tip, add the tip. In order to participate, please email or message your contact details, and we'll you to the list of people who can edit pages. Send your request to stephen@downes.ca

"an increasing interest in online OER discussion across languages, particularly outside academic journal databases. Additionally, a widening "language gap" between OER discussions in English and other languages was identified in several platforms. This research reports some of the cultural and language challenges caused by the expansion of the OER discussion and highlights relevant findings in this field."

Study of Impact of Open Educational Resources - JISC funded - Brits - 0 views

  •
This study will investigate the impact of Open Educational Resources (OER) use on teaching and learning. To achieve this, the project team will review current research in the area; survey, interview and run workshops with suitable participants to collect data; and will produce an accessible report on the study findings. The report will consider the use of OER from both an individual and institutional perspective looking at the benefits OER can offer each and identifying the pedagogic, attitudinal, logistical and strategic factors conducive to uptake and sustained use of OER, as well as the associated issues and challenges.

  • FERPA was never intended to place students into the box of a physical or online classroom to prevent them from learning from the public.
  •
Great approach to helping instructors understand some basic issues of student privacy and the role of social media. This kind of argument might encourage people to assign the use of (and contribution to) open educational resources. "FERPA was never intended to place students into the box of a physical or online classroom to prevent them from learning from the public."
