Pre-clinical Research Based on Existing Repurposing Tools - 0 views

  •
This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) will support rigorous, pre-clinical studies that establish the rationale for a clinical trial, where the hypothesis originates from use of a published or publicly available method for identifying new indications for existing drugs or biologics (therapeutics). The goal of an individual project will be to explore the potential new use of an existing investigational, phase 2a-ready, or FDA-approved drug or licensed biologic; a pre-clinical study funded through this initiative will serve as a use case to demonstrate the utility of an independent crowdsourcing effort or of a computational algorithm to predict new uses of a drug or biologic.

PA-16-100: Multidisciplinary Research in Vulvodynia (R21) - 0 views

  •
The intention of this Funding Opportunity Announcement is to improve the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of vulvodynia.  By definition, vulvar discomfort or pain without a clear etiology is termed vulvodynia. Some organizations use the term vulvodynia to indicate vulvar pain of unknown etiology for more than 3 months.  For the purposes of this announcement, vulvodynia and vulvar pain will be used interchangeably.  The overall incidence of vulvodynia has been reported as 4.2 cases per 100 person-years in one population based study, with others estimating that persistent vulvar pain affects 9 to 18 percent of women at some point during their lifetime. Current evidence suggests that incidence rates vary by age, ethnicity and marital status.

RFA-AG-19-029: Exploring Molecular Links Between Dietary Interventions and Circadian Rh... - 0 views

  •
Despite current data supporting the importance of circadian regulation of DI, molecular components that couple circadian systems with metabolic control, epigenetic modification and age-associated pathologies are not fully understood. In addition, little is known about the contributions of central clocks versus peripheral clocks for regulating circadian homeostasis in the context of aging and metabolism. Several DI modifications such as amino acid restriction, intermittent fasting, and fasting-mimicking diets have been shown to improve healthspan in animals and in human trials. Therefore, this FOA aims to examine how each of these dietary interventions entrains peripheral clocks and how circadian regulation integrates with various dietary strategies to achieve optimal health benefits.

Research to Enhance the US Vision and Eye Health Surveillance System - 0 views

  •
The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to expand the vision and eye health surveillance system by identifying and incorporating new data sources and validating data and key indicators, maintaining the existing system, and promoting the vision and eye health surveillance system to stakeholders to monitor the burden of vision loss and eye diseases and ultimately to improve the vision and eye health of the nation. Vision loss is recognized as a public health problem because it affects more than 4 million people aged 40 years and older in the United States. It is associated with higher prevalence of multiple chronic conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular health, falls, injuries, depression, smoking, premature mortality and overall poorer quality of life. The United States government in Healthy People 2010 and 2020, in conjunction with the vision and eye care communities, have identified the reduction of population disparities in vision loss and access to eye care services as top public health priorities. Despite the knowledge about the individual and societal burden of vision loss and eye diseases, the public health surveillance system in the United States has only just begun to systematically understand and monitor the magnitude and implications of vision loss, access to eye care, and effectiveness of services that potentially improve health and quality of life of those who are at risk of or experience vision loss.

Prevention of HPV-related Cancers in HIV-infected individuals: United States-Latin Amer... - 0 views

  •
The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to facilitate the design, conduct, and completion of clinical trials for improving prevention of human papillomavirus (HPV)-related cancers in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected individuals. To serve this goal, the FOA will support a network of international collaborative sites conducting meritorious and appropriately designed prevention clinical trials in the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region via a U54 Partnership Centers mechanism.

Advancing Mechanistic Probiotic/Prebiotic and Human Microbiome Research (R01 Clinical T... - 0 views

  •
The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is twofold: (1) to stimulate basic and mechanistic science that facilitates the development of effective probiotics or pre-/probiotic combinations of relevance to human health and disease; and (2) determine biological outcomes for the evaluation of efficacy of pre/probiotics in appropriate test systems and animal models. This FOA encourages basic and mechanistic studies using in vitro, in vivo, ex vivo, and in silico models that focus on prebiotic/probiotic strain selectivity, interaction, and function. It will also encourage inter and multidisciplinary collaborations among scientists in a wide range of disciplines including nutritional science, immunology, microbiomics, genomics, other '-omic' sciences, biotechnology, and bioinformatics.

DoD Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury Resilience and Readiness Optimizati... - 0 views

  •
The intent of this Program Announcement is to evaluate the efficacy of evidence-based methods and strategies for rapidly enhancing leader effectiveness, individual and small team performance, and resilience to stressors. Applications that examine the effectiveness of approaches that translate and integrate content into the everyday routines of SMs, first responders, and small teams to enhance psychological health readiness are encouraged. While additional intervention techniques are being sought as part of this award, the goal is not to overload individuals, units, and leaders with new training. Instead, the goal is to ensure that any training that is offered is engaging and proven to be effective. In addition, the intervention does not necessarily have to be training-based. Strategies that include non-intrusive methods are of interest if they improve the health and functioning of individuals, teams, and/or leaders.

RFA-HS-19-001: Patient Safety Learning Laboratories (2019): Pursuing Safety in Diagnosi... - 0 views

  •
This R18 Request for Application (RFA) calls for the creation and utilization of Patient Safety Learning Laboratories.  These learning laboratories are places and networks where transdisciplinary teams identify closely related threats to diagnostic or treatment efforts associated with a high burden of harm and cost. Following a systems engineering methodology, the learning laboratories stretch professional boundaries, envision innovative designs, and take advantage of brainstorming and rapid prototyping techniques that other leading industries employ.  Promising prototypes undergo further develop-test-revise iterations, and subsequent integration as a working system. After further improvements are made to the integrated working system, its efficacy is evaluated in a realistic simulated or clinical setting.
