ABSTRACT This paper reports the findings of a case study in which audio feedback replaced text-based feedback in asynchronous courses. Previous research has demonstrated that participants in online courses can build effective learning communities through text based communication alone. Similarly, it has been demonstrated that instructors for online courses can adequately project immediacy behaviors using textbased communication.

Technology does not determine practice. How people embrace technology has less to do with the technology itself than with the social setting in which they are embedded. Those who are immersed in a techno-savvy, technophilic community are far more likely to embrace technology than those whose social world is shaped by other patterns of consumption and communication.

This is an interesting article about a medical school approach to selecting candidates who have good social skills. I wonder if this approach would be valuable for nursing school admissions interviews? "Virginia Tech Carilion trained 80 people to be interviewers, including doctors and businesspeople from the community."
