A fun resource of music listening through the years. Simply click on a year and popular songs will appear with the ability to listen to them. A great way to compare the different years of music or simply use as a timeline function.

Tanya's blog incorporates musical activities that are focused around the Kodaly method. Each lesson includes books, resources, listening lessons, and songs. There is also a link that has song lists with games attached to them. Each lesson also has a podcast attached through Soundcloud so you can listen to how the lesson was delivered. This website offers a multitude of resources designed for music-making. This specific organization is devoted to offering musical programs to students who are in the 80% of the population that are not involved in performing ensembles. It offers curriculum, lesson plans, and interactive activities for guitar, piano, drums, bass, ukulele, composition, voice and more. There are free PDF songbooks and lesson plans that are connected to the program, that are extremely helpful towards teacher and student interest. The best part of the program is that the majority of the music is examples that students know already - a lot of pop, rock, and even hip-hop. It connects the bridge between traditional musical concepts with music of today.

Little Kids Rock has a multitude of resources for creating a modern band in your classroom. There are songs loaded on the website that include tab for ukulele, guitar, and bass. There are also drum set patterns included. This website serves to expose educators and students modern band and provides lesson plans to go along with the popular songs. Little Kids Rock also provides workshops on how to effectively teach a modern band program.

This website offers many lessons for instruments that students may be interested in playing (piano, guitar, songwriting, drums,etc). The website offers video lessons as well as current play-along songs for students to put their newly learned skills to work.

GoNoodle is an interactive website that offers activity songs for different classrooms. The videos can be used as brain breaks, but it also has songs that could be use in cross-curricular settings (English, history, etc).

The Solfeg.io program is a web- and subscription-based tool for individual or group learning of specific popular songs. There is a list of pre-loaded popular songs with scrolling piano parts and lyrics, along with lead-sheet symbols and drum parts available. The software helps teach music reading and learning by ear using a scrolling video interface.

This site has some great resources for ukulele and guitar learning in the classroom. These are free. The powerpoints are especially great because it is a step by step lesson to get students to play their instruments as quickly as possible (including little excerpts of songs in a different key). The rest of the site provides "easy" versions of popular songs for students to begin playing quickly. It was given to me in a conference session about using popular music to teach ukulele and guitar.

This website contains a ton of songs for the elementary classroom, but you must pay a subscription. The website is very easy to maneuver and allows you to search songs by specific topics and/or musical concepts you are covering.

This is a fun site with just about every theme song that was on TV. This can be used as a listening library for popular music that many of the kids know as well as an introduction to other songs which may be well known but not listened to often.

Songfacts is a website that enables educators and students to learn the historical background of artists and their songs. There is a search engine that allows for an easy look-up of any artist, and accompanying this search is a timeline of major events, a brief history of the artist's life, and insight that the general public may not know about the artist. There is also research and insight about individual songs that the artist released or collaborated on. Songfacts can be a great resource to give more context about music that students are learning to in and out of class. It can engage students in listening to music more actively if they are intrigued about the artist's life, struggles, achievements, vision, and motivation for creation.

This is a blog that focuses on elementary music education, specifically songs and games that teach simple musical elements. The blog is very well organized and easy to access.

A recorder resource for beginning through advanced players to be used in the elementary general music classroom. This website has dozens of songs organized by difficulty and separated into "belt levels" for recorder karate. Each song has a recording and brief description of the interesting features.

This is a great site to utilize for music history lessons! It has popular american songs and composer biographies to use for student read alouds or assessments. I will definitely be coming back to this site in the next few weeks!
