Amazing resource for lesson plans, worksheets, and games to teach students about a wide variety of music topics. This website would be great for creating lesson plans for subs and would also be a great resource if you can't find printed worksheets that address theory. The games are also fun and educational, asking students to identify instruments, tempos, etc. and can act as quizzes that can be scored and printed out. Great resource!

Music Tech Teacher is an open resource offered by Karen Garrett as an extension of her own music classes she had previously been teaching. Ms. Garrett offers free lessons, worksheets and assessments that can be downloaded as .pdfs and used by any teachers looking for materials that could be used within their own classrooms. Jazz Academy has a few different programs, some of which cost money. However, Essentially Ellington is free and member directors get access to a number of resources and free Duke Ellington charts, some of which are accessible at the middle school level.

The purpose of this website is to provide a list of free jazz sheet music in the keys of Bb, Eb, and bass clef from the "Real Book". The content lists songs from A to Z which provide an audio recording link for each without any ads. Students can use this site to play along with the sheet music and accompaniment provided. It would make a great practice tool in addition to method book material for students of all ages. The author of the site also promotes a "my music apps" page for beginner and experienced musicians.

This website provides a free 58-page music book for beginning instrumentalists. The website also provides backing tracks for songs from the tutor book. However, some of the information in the books may need to be tweaked. For example, quarter notes are referred to as the British "crotchets" here.

Another site with reviews of low cost or free music tech software. This is great for music teachers on a tight budget.

Richard Byrne's blog features articles about and reviews of technology teachers could use in their classroom. Though not music education specific, the resources provided could be adapted for use in the music classroom.

THe podcasts are created by Dr. Gordon Vernick, Associate Professor of Music at Georgia State. This is fantastic resource for students as well as educators.
