The Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, in cooperation with Saint Louis-based PBS TV affiliate Nine Network (KETC-Channel 9), has put together a tremendous website that will be a great resource for students. This website features video of concerts that the Saint Louis Symphony has performed that are programmed with the Nine Network. This is a great site for students to watch a world-class orchestra perform!

This is a Facebook group for music teachers only. This is where music educators from all over can post, read, comment and share educational resources or discussions that you can relate too. I find a lot of the topics brought up in this group to be important. Additionally, this is a great way to network and meet other teachers in different parts of the country. You can share strategies and approaches of your teaching skills while learning about other innovative ways to implement in your own classroom.

Jazzednet.org is the site for the Jazz Education Network. It offers helpful articles about properly teaching students the elements of jazz education. This particular article, although listed for drum set performance tips, is applicable for the entire rhythm section of your jazz band. It gives helpful tips on how to make your rhythm section understand the feel and flow of the chart by providing a lead sheet so that they become familiar with the melody like the horn players.

As a saxophonist, the North American Saxophone Alliance is a valuable organization that is dedicated to the advancement of the saxophone. The organization is comprised of performers, teachers, students, and enthusiasts. The group provides important resources for saxophonists at all skill levels, no matter what their background. It is a strong community network that is working hard to foster appreciation and love for the saxophone. 

American School Band Directors Association is a national organization for band directors whose mission is to promote, enhance and preserve quality school band programs through leadership and fellowship of exemplary band directors. The ASBDA provides national conferences and workshops for band director to network, gain rehearsal techniques as well as discuss how to provide a higher quality education to their students

Tagboard is a whole new way to experience the great content from the social networks you already know and love. Each tagboard is a collection of social media posts (from Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and others) that share a common hashtag. Tagboards can be embedded on websites, integrated in to mobile apps, and shown on large displays.

IBA (Iowa Bandmasters Association) is the organization that leas Iowa band directors. If you are a band director or music educator in Iowa, you should be a member of IBA. IBA provides professional development, networking opportunities, and will assist a director in any way they can, such as advocacy.

New Horizons is a network of music education programs for adults. New Horizons advocates for participatory music opportunities for adults who either had little or no music education in their younger years or have had little connection to music making since their school years. New Horizons groups are independently run organizations in the United States and many foreign countries. The first New Horizons group was started by Dr. Roy Ernst at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester.

This is a website devoted to this history and performance of Taps. There is information regarding how to properly perform this bugle call. Also, there is information about bugles in general and their role in the military. Great for teaching trumpet players (and really all musicians) about this very well known call.

This community website is for children to share songs, build communities themselves, and create ideas with other children which will allow growth as a students and music lover. The purpose of this site is to give adults and students feedback on events happening, gatherings of music lovers, and to give insight into the quality of music. This site includes children's links to other websites such as Kids Music Connection and Children's Radio List. It also articles that include songs to sing, literacy learning, and events that take place within different regions of the United States.

The purpose of this website is to provide music educators with video blogs on software, apps, teaching ideas, and useful strategies that can improve instruction. The content is in the form of video/audio and/or power point presentations. It is created by a network of music educators who have used the material before and are describing the benefits and/or problems they have had with it.

Robin's video blogs are a great resource for teachers. She demonstrates and reviews ways that technology can be used in the music classroom. You can subscribe to her weekly videos, which are both fun and informative.

The Kennedy Center ArtsEdge site contains a wealth of lessons, activities, and supporting information to enhance arts education. There is an extensive media library containing audio stories, performance clips and other viable information for students.

All schools need to embrace world music as a means of stopping racism and prejudice!  Also, world music is super fun to teach!

Article written to support the use of technology to compliment instruction and enhance student learning instead of technology for technology sake. Teachers should use social media cites, e.g., blogs, to facilitate discussion and feedback from students, create online PLNs. The cross curricular benefit is increasing writing facility and literacy. A couple of concerns are cyberbullying and parents who may question how much learning is taking place with social media. Educators can help others, including students, understand that music learning can take place outside of the classroom through social media and broaden the audience.

I use Music K8 videos to help enhance learning of several music concepts. They are fun to watch too!
