Michael Tilson Thomas with the San Francisco Symphony creates Keeping Score. This series contains different documentaries about the history of music, the composers, conductors, musicians, locations and performances. Music educators can explore interactive multimedia, biographies of the composers and access the episodes to share with students.

This podcast has a technology focus and puts out weekly episodes. There are over 73 episodes with topics that vary from apps to websites to equipment.

The Music Tech Teacher Podcast hosted by Katie Wardrobe has become one of my favorite podcasts. I am teaching music technology for the first time this year and various episodes regarding productivity for music teachers and using technology such as iPads in the classroom are extremely helpful.

This is a podcast for music technology teachers, which is good for anyone who is looking to get into the study of technology when it comes to music. The podcast are discussions of many topics, to give tips on how how to be come better at the specific topic.

These videos are created by Music Express magazine and each one deals with a different topic of music education. The videos have four main characters and are well-made and entertaining for students. The topics explored are basic general music concepts like steady beat, rests, high/middle/low and more. Each episode has a catchy song that students enjoy singing along to.

Another great website for teaching music. There are many interactive games, some great videos about composers in the time machine, and tools to help kids compose and improvise together.

Quaver's Marvelous World of Music is an interactive music education curriculum and program that integrates, what students love: technology and fun! The host of the video episodes, "Quaver" makes music learning fun and memorable. There are free parts of the program as well as extensive paid sections. From the Top is a PBS series that features young performers on the Carnegie Hall stage. Each clip includes background and an interview with Christopher O'Riley (host and sometimes piano accompanist). There are representations of almost every major instrument in band and orchestra as well as vocalists, choral ensembles, pianists, and guitarists. The young performers have selected pieces in a variety of styles and some have amazing background stories, including an Olympic skater and one about the effects of Hurricane Katrina. The website also includes podcasts and a section for teachers that includes lesson plans to incorporate along with each episode. Free podcasts available online, also on iTunes, to learn how to play jazz piano. There are a lot of episodes and it starts simple and easy before it gets a bit more advanced. There's an easy progression of increasing difficulty. These podcasts are a great resource for students and teachers for increasing their jazz piano abilities.

Something from Nothing is a currently running/updating podcast series on NPR that talks about creative works by musicians and artists and their influences/processes. It shows students that anyone can be creative. The current episodes are 13 minutes to a half hour in length.

This is a flash-based musical game site that has several different activities that are appropriate for elementary students. The site is very engaging for that age student and easy to navigate.

This is a cloud-based music education software with lesson plans, project ideas, audio, video, games, and other special activities to assist teaching new content from note values, line and space identification, world music, and other content.

Curriculum for music classes through grade 8.

This is a discussion by New York Times columnist, David Brooks, and Kathy Fletcher, and the director of Turnaround Arts Initiative about the important work that Turnaround Arts does through the strategic use of the arts. The discussion talks about how music facilitates brain development, why certain things in music leave people fascinated, and what magic music brings to emotion. The discussion also unfolds how the arts, and music education in particular opens the student's mind to memorisation. David Brooks says "Students understand better when topics are introduced through music". I agree with that because most students become more alert when a topic is introduced through song and it fosters the interest of students. Therefore we need arts to succeed in education. A lot of artists came from struggling backgrounds so when they talk to children that would like to succeed in the music world but are frightened that they'll never make it, they tell them "I know what you are going through but you can make it". This encourages those children to push on and excel in the arts. Kathy Fletcher says music boosts critical thinking and confidence which is ideal for students and they end up excelling in all other fields. The arts connect us all through music in a way that music created is shared all around the world. Partnerships are created to perform music and people come together to listen to music. This makes us one.

This Podcast includes an interview with Eric Whitacre who is well known for his compositions as well as the use of virtual choirs.

This podcast is hosted by three middle school band directors in Texas. They conduct their podcast in between classes, and they discuss the ins and outs of band in their middle school classes. They provide several resources to use in sectional classes in middle school band and offer advice.

This website is for a podcast I have been listening to for a few years. The podcast is very interesting an informative. It give a different perspective on teaching band. Though I don't teach in a similar situation, things can be applied to my situation.

This podcast covers three band directors that all work in the same middle school. This discuss all different types of things but it is interesting to listen to how the three work together with their different classes. I have listen to this podcast in the past and their are even times she records her lessons with her students.

Black Violin shares the influence music education had on their lives. This podcast discusses how art and music education introduces students to perspectives that they would not necessarily come across in their upbringing. They also discuss balancing classical music with music that is culturally relevant to the students and how classical music needs to be more inclusive to bridge the gap. This is especially relevant in my urban teaching environment. 

This site offers streaming of programs about young musicians and their lives. The focus is on the music and the impact it can have in a young person's life. The pieces themselves are also discussed and lesson plans are available to go with them.

From the Top at Carnegie Hall is a production where your musicians share their talents at one of the most prestigious theaters in the United States. Teachers can download the videos and programs to share with students in class. Each episode includes a lesson plan with the objectives, activities and music standards.

This site provides lesson plans to accompany full video clips from the PBS series "From the Top." The videos are essentially master classes that introduce or focus on a specific musical element.
