Guitar Best Practices in the First and Second Year - NAfME - 0 views

  •
This sites contains downloadable links that contain very lucid and practical curricular ideas and suggestion for beginning and intermediate guitar classes and ensembles. The language is targeted at two groups: those teachers who are starting guitar programs and those teachers who themselves are not proficient guitarists yet are teaching a guitar class. The "further reading" at the bottom is icing in the cake.

This makes me seriously want to reconsider learning guitar. I'm not gonna lie, as a pianist, I had a horrible time with the guitar in my undergrad methods course. My piano fingers just didn't want to do what the guitar needed them to do. This piece of technology could be a game changer. It just looks fun... thinking about trying again thanks to www.jamstik.com

This website offers a multitude of resources designed for music-making. This specific organization is devoted to offering musical programs to students who are in the 80% of the population that are not involved in performing ensembles. It offers curriculum, lesson plans, and interactive activities for guitar, piano, drums, bass, ukulele, composition, voice and more. There are free PDF songbooks and lesson plans that are connected to the program, that are extremely helpful towards teacher and student interest. The best part of the program is that the majority of the music is examples that students know already - a lot of pop, rock, and even hip-hop. It connects the bridge between traditional musical concepts with music of today.

Yousician is a great software resource that teaches students to play a number of instruments including: piano, guitar, bass, ukulele, and voice. The software is set-up in a creative, game-like structure that tracks student progress and ability level through playing assessments. It's a great tool to use during general music units that focus on performance practice of these different instruments. The free version is open to all for a full 20 minutes a day. Great tool for students of all ages.
  •
Yousician is another tool to build independent learners and musicians. Students with access to a computer or other device at home can build their instrumental playing skills on ukulele, guitar, bass, or piano with this self-guided program. Additionally, this resource can be used in the general music classroom to teach interval training, intonation, and rhythmic accuracy.
  •
Yousician is an app for Android and iOS devices that can aid you and your students in learning how to play guitar, bass, ukulele, and piano, while also providing guidance with voice development. This site has some great resources for ukulele and guitar learning in the classroom. These are free. The powerpoints are especially great because it is a step by step lesson to get students to play their instruments as quickly as possible (including little excerpts of songs in a different key). The rest of the site provides "easy" versions of popular songs for students to begin playing quickly. It was given to me in a conference session about using popular music to teach ukulele and guitar.

MagicMusicTutor.com has some really good materials available for free. I have had particular success with the free song arrangements for boomwhackers. There are also tutorial videos, music theory worksheets, virtual instruments, classroom ideas, guitar tutorials, a MIDI song library, and the site admin accepts requests for new materials.

Yousician - Your personal music teacher - 0 views

Yousician is a great resource for learning the guitar, bass, ukelele, or piano. Students can watch video tutorials and move up when they pass levels while playing songs with fun background music. The program/app provides instant feedback on pitch and rhythm. Teachers can use Yousician with a class on a Smart Board. In a group setting, Yousician cannot provide feedback, but it does provide lesson plans and even has a SongCreator. It is free to use with time limits on feedback, or can be upgraded to premium for $9.99/person with unlimited feedback. Students can sign up for their own account and teachers can track their progress through a Teacher account. It is fun, engaging, and provides a well rounded education in these instruments. There are knowledge tracks for each instrument which cover music theory and ear training.
