Podcast on popular music.

This is a podcast that breaks down popular music and digs deep into the theory and make up of those songs. Music educators can use this as a resource for listening guides to direct discussion and listening response for students.

From "The Improving Musician", this is a great resource for teachers to reference for each tonality. It provides convenient information on what to chords to use to harmonize while singing songs in all tonalities. It also shows the tonal sequence for each tonality for when you are establishing tonality whilst in verbal association.

This is Jen Bailey's TPT store, and it is loaded with amazing material for Music Learning Theory teachers, as well as teachers who follow other methodologies. She has many resources for use with a projector or smart board, and other things that are printable. There are resources for assessment, audiation enhancement, movement, literature, holidays, rhythm games, notation resources, songs, recorder, ukulele, and so much more!

This is the Dallas Symphony's kids page. They have great videos and resources about the instruments of the orchestra and composers. There are lesson plans available as well. This is probably geared more toward younger students.

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra's purpose for creating this site is to compile a variety of interactive games and resources for kids to access and explore orchestral instrumentation and sound. The games and interactive information is engaging and informative, especially for the young general music student as well as beginning instrumentalists.

The materials from this site will enhance certain musical concepts being taught in class to increase students' levels of engagement. There are videos and songs to enhance music lessons, as well as ideas and materials for lesson plans. The DSO page also provides multiple resources and links to other educational outlets for students in elementary school, as well as accompanying teacher resources and activities for their students.

This website was created by an Iowa band director and has many resources and information about music technology. It includes a blog, sheet music, professional articles, and podcasts.

This site contains useful information and articles that inform music teachers about various music resources. Resources include podcasts, products, NAFME news and popular music technologies.

Yousician is a great resource for learning the guitar, bass, ukelele, or piano. Students can watch video tutorials and move up when they pass levels while playing songs with fun background music. The program/app provides instant feedback on pitch and rhythm. Teachers can use Yousician with a class on a Smart Board. In a group setting, Yousician cannot provide feedback, but it does provide lesson plans and even has a SongCreator. It is free to use with time limits on feedback, or can be upgraded to premium for $9.99/person with unlimited feedback. Students can sign up for their own account and teachers can track their progress through a Teacher account. It is fun, engaging, and provides a well rounded education in these instruments. There are knowledge tracks for each instrument which cover music theory and ear training.

For teachers with a SmartBoard, this website gives free music games for use in the classroom.  Most of these games are appropriate for K-5 and cover a variety of music topics.  Intervals, pitch discrimination, listening, and basic music theory are the topics covered in these games.

I'll definitely have to explore these games on my own before taking them into the classroom. So far, some of them seem pretty advanced for my students. I also am not sure about how to play many of the games because of lack of directions. 

A collection of SmartBoard apps for use in a general music classroom setting. Focus is on beginner music theory with such topics as pitch discrimination, basic scales and song structure. Files are Flash-based and can be used on a SmartBoard seamlessly.

Garageband Training, Classes, and Tutorials from Lynda.com. From these resources, you can learn how to record songs, use loops, create beats, create and publish podcasts and share MP3 files from Garageband. These online classes and tutorials provide step-by-step, easy to follow instructions for beginners.

Children all around the world engage in musical play. This website contains authentic video performances of singing games from around the world. Jules Oosterwegel was inspired to capture and gather these musical performances during his travels, believing in the importance of sharing these songs and games with others.

Artie Almeida has a ton of free downloads to accompany not only her lessons that are in her books, but also free printables that can be used in many original lessons.  Many of her ideas are unique to other lessons I have seen around.

The resources are not very easy to sort through, but they are well worth it! Many songs and activities from Artie's books are included for free and there are countless resources to use in the classroom.

These videos are created by Music Express magazine and each one deals with a different topic of music education. The videos have four main characters and are well-made and entertaining for students. The topics explored are basic general music concepts like steady beat, rests, high/middle/low and more. Each episode has a catchy song that students enjoy singing along to.

A great website by a seasoned general music teacher. This website has many lesson plans, songs, and activities for Pre-k through 5th grade general music. The blog includes archives that date back 8 years and posts are searchable by title, content, and activity.

The homepage of Denise Gagne on YouTube. Many sample lesson plans are included as well as songs from Musicplay magazine.

This is a video sharing site. The user can access quality music examples and create playlists for easy access. The user can also create their own channel and upload videos that they created themselves. Music educators can locate examples, tutorials, or other information for use with music lessons.

This is the link to the Piano Guys YouTube page. This provides a great resource for students to watch new arrangements of some of their favorite songs.

Founded by Alan Lomax, the ACE website includes sound, photograph, and video collections as well as discussions/interviews and radio shows. There are also resources for teachers included as well as information on Alan Lomax and his work. Many primary source recordings of children's songs and games can be found in this collection.

For lessons based on music listening and intervallic training, this website is a helpful tool. It takes popular songs and uses them to help students identify intervals and provides links to blogs and information on music advocacy.

This is a classical music website. Use this site to read the biographies of several amazing composers. Pay attention to the songs that they wrote and see if you recognize any.

This is a wonderful website for string quartet and ensembles that want to perform non-traditional music. Mona Lisa Sound has sheet music from the Beatles, the Who, Led Zeppelin and more at a reasonable price. Music can be searched by artist, song name, ensemble make up, and difficulty.

This handy music converter introduces students to miniscule tunings and is a good lead-in to concepts like quarter notes. Plus, you can hear a difference in the sound of a song at 432 Hz!

This site is something that most music educators today are familiar with; Finale. it provides a free download of Finale as well as blogs and training tutorials about how to use the program. The purpose of Finale is to all teachers (and students!) to create their own music. It can be anything from an original composition to an arrangement of a familiar song to a replica of something that has already been created. Not only does finale help build musical creativity, but it also teaches students about the basics of music notation. This site is a great source because it takes you step-by-step through downloading Finale, making it more user-friendly, especially for those that might not have as much experience with more recent music software.
