This site has a lot of free sheet music and allows students to print it off and practice sight reading. This site also has a tuner, scales, and a metronome to allow students to practice properly. The purpose of this resource is to allow students to stay engaged and practice music of their choice when they get bored with the music for concerts. This helps them stay engaged and not get burned out.

8notes.com is full of music resources such as free sheet music and supplemental material for lessons. The sheet music includes categories such as classical, pop, jazz, film/TV, and traditional. Any music teacher knows how frequently students ask for specific tunes from television or movies. Even though they may not be played in class, students can greatly benefit from private practice on tunes they enjoy. 8notes.com also includes over forty theory lessons. These lessons begin with learning about lines and spaces on the staff and continue through many concepts all the way to the introduction of modes. In addition to the lessons, this website provides ear training exercises to accompany the theory lessons. 8notes.com is a great resource for all music teachers, not just instrumental or vocal. This site includes music and lessons for all instruments including banjo and ukulele, making it great for a general music classroom as well.

The site provides audio and visual examples of almost all of the instruments in the woodwind, brass, percussion, harp and keyboard, fretted string , and string families. The videos cover basic performance and fundamental skills.

A super resource for elementary music students to hear what all of the different instruments sound like and see how they are played. Great information on each instrument and quality sound clips. A well put together website of supplemental information. 

The University of Indiana has provided a comprehensive set of individual instrument instructional videos for all instruments. These instructional videos include woodwind, brass, percussion, harp, keyboards, strings, and fretted strings. The view can pause the videos at any time and interact with the musical passages on the right side of the video. In addition to this being a comprehensive set of resources, it is also through a reputable source.

A collection of fun musical games for young students. Players can try games such as "MusicQuest" or "Percussion Showdown", and take music knowledge quizzes. Games are flash-based and would work well on Chromebooks or in a computer lab.

The New York Philharmonic has a web page dedicated to activities for children. This website includes not only games, but links to watch a concert.

HNU's Kodaly Center Collection is one of the music education websites that I frequent. This website allows the view to search through a vast collection of Kodaly songs to use in the classroom. These songs can be searched based upon grade level, type of song, origin and many more filters. Song types include dance and partner games, as well as call and response songs. There are songs in many different languages, some that may be familiar to students and some that would be brand new.

This is a collection of American Folk songs. The use of this would be to give a library of music for general music for elementary students to perform and practice. It would help fulfill many standards within the general music class.

This is a Kodaly folk song collection from Holy Names University. Users can search by element, grade, region, subject, and more.

This is a collection of 599 Folk Songs that can be used in the General Music Classroom. Each Song link contains rhythmic and melodic resources teachers can use to teach the song in class. Most of the links also contain recordings of the songs for the students to listen to.

This site contains a list of classical composers from many different countries. The composers are also listed according to the historical period in which they wrote music. Each week there is a featured composer and a featured video of a classical artist's music being performed.

This has a list of important classical composers and a few important facts about them. This could be a great tool for printing out a quick "composer of the week" type of activity where students learn a little bit about specific composers. This works on their music history skills.

This site provides several pieces that focus on certain musical performance skills. The resources are in the form of downloadable sheetmusic. This is a great site for honing in on one specific skill being taght at a time. Most teachers use method books in lesson, which are of course very beneficial but may not put enough emphasis on a specific musical concept. This site has music in several categoires including finger patterns, shifting, and rhythm to name a few. Some of the categories have downloadable curricula as well, making it a great guide for novice teacher or even experienced teachers looking for new materials to work with.

StringSkills.com is an excellent free resource for string teaching materials. Compiled by Gabriel Villasurda, this site contains fingering charts/suggestions, rhythmic practices (and crazy tunes to help reinforce the learning) as well as bowing techniques, scales and shifting. There are even challenge pieces to be played on one string. Definitely worthwhile for string teachers.

This website has free, downloadable exercises that address many string techniques. There are exercises for bowings, finger patterns, scales of varying difficulties, shifting, rhythm, and key signatures. This could be a great resource to push students from a beginner/intermediate level to being able to play advanced repertoire that involve complex rhythms, articulations and key areas. I would like to use this for upper middle school students to prepare them for high school instrumental programs.
