DonorsChoose is a way for any teachers to request materials for their classrooms through specified vendors. Many celebrities participate in flash funding of certain projects and Title I schools are given top billing when the projects are listed. The smaller the projects, the easier is it to get them funded. I got $6,700 funded in one project by Stephen Colbert and countless other projects funded through the generosity of others.

Sound trap is an online Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) that one can use to create loops and tracks online. One doesn't need to download any software to install sound trap, it is typically online and is a very good resource for teaching creativity, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking (4 Cs). I like sound trap because it enables students and teachers to continue work anywhere any time (in and outside the classroom). Teachers can easily add projects and invite students to work on the project any time anywhere. The fact that one can invite another person to work on the same project and/or even record a track together is mesmerizing. With sound trap, it is easy to record any instrument, download a track, and best of all, you can record using a microphone and/or use the free loops, MIDI, and effects that come with the software. A school has to purchase the software and add students to start using it. However, the software has a one month free trial which teachers can try out with their students before purchasing.

At only $5, it provides a 2 week interactive unit on composers and includes project guidelines, composer lists (baroque, classical and romantic composers), rubrics, and more.

Amazing resource for lesson plans, worksheets, and games to teach students about a wide variety of music topics. This website would be great for creating lesson plans for subs and would also be a great resource if you can't find printed worksheets that address theory. The games are also fun and educational, asking students to identify instruments, tempos, etc. and can act as quizzes that can be scored and printed out. Great resource!

Music Tech Teacher is an open resource offered by Karen Garrett as an extension of her own music classes she had previously been teaching. Ms. Garrett offers free lessons, worksheets and assessments that can be downloaded as .pdfs and used by any teachers looking for materials that could be used within their own classrooms. Ms. Garrett's resources also have a strong focus on teachers looking to specifically make use of technology in their classes.

Eric Litwin is an author, musician and producer who specializes in children's music. He is one of my favorite artists for kids. He has many educational resources and a curriculum for preschool children. His books featuring Pete the Cat are awesome and appear regularly in my music room! Eric Litwin also does performances in schools and communities and has visited my school for his "Earth Shaking, CD Making" project where my students learned songs and recorded them to make their own CD.

Being a member school provides access to festival/contest lists and rules/regulations regarding those events. WSMA is the leading organization in the state for organizations solo and ensemble events. You must be a member school in order to participate in any WSMA sanctioned event.

This page has posted audio files of all of the North Carolina All-State Solos each year. It is updated each fall to provide the appropriate solo for students and teachers to listen to for reference. By looking at the All-State Solo List linked on this page, a teacher can find the name of each solo and use these resources for music listening projects, or modeling examples.

There are different categories listed at the top as well as menus for within those categories that provide teachers with solutions to teaching situations or problems. 

This is a website devoted to providing tips and information on all band instruments. There are useful links to articles about each instrument. It is full of useful information that would be of benefit to both students and teachers.

Great website for puzzles, quizzes, composition activities, instrument families and a great introduction to the NY Philharmonic.  This would be excellent to use before attending a NY Philharmonic concert. 

This is a great website for students to review concepts learned in class. "Instrument Frenzy" is a high speed game that can be used to review instruments and categorize them by family. 

A great website for students to learn about the instruments, and people of the orchestra. They also learn about composers and compositions, and are able to make their own instrument, mingles, and minuets. A great website to use for elementary students who are learning about the orchestra.

This is a flash-based musical game site that has several different activities that are appropriate for elementary students. The site is very engaging for that age student and easy to navigate.
