In certain locations, such as public squares, smartphone owners will be able to use an augmented reality app to project a virtual store - branded as Unlimited Yihaodian - over the top of their surroundings. Using the phone's accelerometer, customers will be able to move around digital rooms, displaying products available on Yihaodian's site, reports suggest. Account holders can then order items for delivery as they would if they were using the browser version.

Women's network SheSpeaks and female-oriented marketing firm Lippe Taylor surveyed over 2,000 US female internet users in March 2013 and found that only 6% reported still researching products primarily in-store, while another 5% asked friends and family for recommendations most often. The rest-89% in total-did their browsing mostly on the web, either via desktop (71%) or on mobile devices (18%).

Trendy Millennials in Singapore have long shopped for inexpensive clothing and accessories on local fashion blogs, the most popular of which achieve cult status among their largely female audience. Several of these have built a physical presence, including Modparade, which opened in the youthful Haji Lane shopping area, and MDSCollections, which has three mall stores and a fourth on its way. As The Business of Fashion recently noted, "It seems clear that pure-play e-tailers will increasingly need to embrace multi-channel strategies."

A new survey by mobile ad network Greystripe suggests mobile shoppers are more likely to evangelize brands or products than people who prefer to make purchases in physical stores. The study found almost half (49%) of mobile shoppers routinely writing reviews about their product experiences, compared to only 31% of their traditional counterparts.   But if a mobile shopper is unhappy with a purchase, that also indicates they are more likely to complain about it online. The study showed that mobile shoppers are more likely (31%) to visit a brand's Web site or app first when looking for product information than in-store shoppers (24%).

The demographic is more likely to remember brands advertised on portable devices and is motivated to visit brand sites and/or retail stores as a result of digital advertising and social posts, Terra found.   In fact, 38% of Hispanics agree that they are more likely to visit branded sites and retail stores, compared to just 24% of non-Hispanics.

Walmart says it has launched a microsite called classrooms.walmart.com, which compiles thousands of classroom supply lists, with schools in all 50 states participating. The Bentonville, Ark.-based retailer says it is the first major retailer to digitize supply lists, which allow shoppers to buy items either online or at their local store. (Local school supply lists will also be available in Walmart stores, it says.) 

Clothing retailer Neiman Marcus launches its new mobile personal shopping application enabling shoppers to select and find various items via their mobile devices. Through the use of location-based technology and QR codes, the iOS application lets users browse through their favorite products and find them through a store locator. Moreover, special events and new arrivals will be sent to the users via push notifications.

According to the company, features of the new app include lock screen notifications when approaching a select Duane Reade store location, coupon offers based on historical data and product reviews for timely content at the point-of-decision. iBeacon will initially be available at 10 select Duane Reade stores in Manhattan to test the viability of a further rollout.

This is basically true of any retailer who launches a store app, but I like how they frame this particular launch in the "100m mobile stores" context.
