"Sony's new high-end televisions have a neat trick, enabled by Miracast and NFC, that allows users to simply tap their Xperia device with the TV's remote control to mirror the smartphone display on the big screen. Sony says all of its new high-end televisions (W800 or better) will have Miracast and an NFC-enabled remote control. We got a chance to check out the technology in action on the show floor, and to put it simply, it's really cool; it takes a few seconds of holding the remote to the back of the Xperia Z to connect the smartphone to the television, at which point the TV displays whatever you've got open on the phone. It's one of the best television screen-sharing implementations we've seen, as it makes screen sharing nearly effortless. To disable the mirroring, users just need to re-tap their phone to the remote control."

The remote control must die; but what's next? One company at the apex of that question is Philips, which, unbeknownst to many onlookers, already makes remote controls for an array of TV makers, set-top box vendors and pay-TV operators like BSkyB. Philips now offers its own Wiimote-like gesture stick to screen makers like HP; (NYSE: HPQ) a motion-sensitive, qwerty-equipped uWand; candybars with integrated laptop trackpads and, yes, plain 'ol candybars for internet TV operators who still want them. All of this means the TV input segment is about to embark upon the same kind of innovative period of disruption and competing standards that the TV space is now wrestling with and which the internet itself before it first unleashed.

AppleTV gunning for Xbox/GoogleTV as box of choice. I like the idea of a gesture/voice/apple remote system and the xbox controller/gesture/voice over google's giant remote approach.

To celebrate Helsinki as the capital of design, and to illustrate the importance of good design, interactive pop-up cafes were set up all over the city that were complete with tables, music, lighting and more that are remotely controlled by people online.

Users can also share their favorite shows on Facebook and pair their mobile device with a web browser on a computer, which turns the device into a remote control or a second screen. Not in the US

"If these are really the dimensions that matter, why are mobile ad rates so low? This is simply an issue of time and of product and market development. The market is still illiquid and sub-scale, and great ad products haven't had time to develop. I don't know what the new mobile ad products will look like yet, and they won't be one-size-fits-all. But to be great they'll need to act like "content" in the context of an app and will need to be interactive and "push-button remote control" simple."

Wiiwaa is like this plush toy that you put a wii remote into and then you can control the stuffed toy on the Wii via the included video game. It looks kinda cool. A similar idea could be explored for something like cartoon but using less expensive tech/games than a video game console.

They outfitted a claw machine with equipment to allow people to control it remotely from their desktops and filled it with Nestea.

"The company has just signed deals with Broadcom, Marvell and Intel to integrate its Wiimote-style controller into the trio's home-entertainment hardware. Playing with it for a few minutes, we were impressed by its accuracy, although gestures did take a little time to get used to."
