The University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School (of business) provides free online access Knowledge@Wharton, its online business journal. The online journal focuses on: * business trends * interviews (faculty & business leaders) * business research * reviews (conferences, book, etc) * providing a search database to over 1,500 relevant articles and abstracts Major categories include Innovation and Entrepreneurship , Business Ethics, Marketing, Finance and Investment, and more. There is a "Special Sections" page that links to more in-depth articles which readers can post comments to. And last but not least, the site also has podcasts accessible via iTunes.

The losses suffered in traditional news gathering in the last year were so severe that by any accounting they overwhelm the innovations in the world of news and journalism, according to a new report from the Pew Research Center's Project for Excellence in Journalism (PEJ).

As McKinsey & Company's business journal, The McKinsey Quarterly offers public, non-profit, and private management "new ways of thinking." Focus is placed on strategy, corporate finance, governance, economic studies, IT, organization, marketing, and operations. Articles are free (dating back to 1992), a selection of which are available with free registration. Some "premium" articles are available to Premium Members (paid subscribers).

Science journalism is in decline. Science reporting is being left to general assignment reporters, who may lack the expertise to present science in an informative and engaging fashion. The Science Media Centre of Canada is a proposed remedy and will host their launch event at the MaRS Centre on April 20th with Jay Ingram, co-host of Discovery Channel's Daily Planet.

As stated in Energy Harvest Journal, "Researchers from the University of Toronto (U of T), the King Abdullah University of Science & Technology (KAUST) and Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) have created the most efficient solar cell ever made based on collodial-quatum-dots...a technology licensing agreement has been signed by U of T and KAUST, brokered by MaRS Innovations (MI), which will will enable the global commercialization of this new technology." 

At the 2011 Canadian Small Business Week, the University of New Brunswick announced its new innovation and entrepreneurship centre. There are many discussions taking place as to how this centre will be structured and support the next generation of entrepreneurs in New Brunswick and the Maritime region. Accolades for MaRS ICT client OpenFile from Wayne MacPhail, a journalism prof and general news guru. He uses OpenFile with his students and says OpenFile is hyperlocal, fully engaging communities in their own coverage.

As a site of the Kauffman Foundation, this portal provides links to entrepreneurship and technology commercialization publications including 742 journals, 197 books, 70 reports, 73 conferences, and 116 working-papers. All publications are summarized via free access to their abstract, however access to their full-text depends entirely on their publisher/vendor: some are free, some are pay per view, and some require paid subscription. The portal provides direct linking to full-text if available. Since the portal operates on strict headings, it provides excellent access to publications. Since it links to several citation softwares, it is an excellent resource for those looking to compile lists of references. Otherwise, it is an excellent resource for entrepreneurs wanting to keep up with entrepreneurial research and findings, as well as for those wanting to publish entrepreneurial written work. The site offers tips on how to build a business, access to NPG journals by subject area (biotechnology to development to pharmacology), tool kit downloads, nature news and events, start-up profiles, and a handful of discussion articles on amazing entrepreneurs!

The Wall Street Journal reports on a highlight at the LeWeb conference in Paris: MaRS client and Canadian start-up, InteraXon's thought-controlled computing technology. The Canada Gairdner Awards, who honours the world's most significant medical research announced the names of the 2012 awardees at the MaRS Centre of March 21, 2012.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., a maker of scientific instruments and related technologies, has paid $260 million in cash to acquire Fermentas International Inc., an Ontario, Canada-based maker and distributor of enzymes, kits and reagents for molecular and cellular biology research.

Kevin Stolarick has a four-point plan to make Atlantic Canada grow. The research director of Toronto's Martin Prosperity Institute says his process is not an easy fix of the region's trend of so-called brain drain, but he can offer some lessons from his travels.
